TikTok removed a clip of Sarah Knapton, the Telegraph’s Science Editor, discussing the links between mRNA vaccines and heart problems, claiming it violated the Chinese app’s ‘community guidelines’. The Telegraph has more.
TikTok has been criticised for censoring concerns over potential side-effects of the Covid vaccines after taking down a video of Daily Telegraph journalists discussing the topic.
The social media platform removed a clip from the Planet Normal podcast on Friday afternoon, before later reuploading it.
Adam Brooks, a publican and social media commentator, had posted an excerpt of the discussion between Sarah Knapton, the Telegraph’s Science Editor, and columnists Allison Pearson and Liam Halligan, who present the weekly series.
Discussing potential adverse effects of mRNA vaccines, Ms Knapton, whose science journalism has won several industry awards, said that if she had been in her twenties she “wouldn’t necessarily go for” a vaccination because of the balance of risks.
“There clearly is some sort of – definitely an observational link between an increase in heart problems after, particularly the mRNA jabs, and we don’t know what the long term outcome of that will be,” she told Planet Normal.
The Government’s own website acknowledges the link stating: “Many studies have now shown that there is an increased risk of myocarditis (heart inflammation) following vaccination with an mRNA vaccine, especially in young men under the age of 40.”
The video of her comments, posted by Mr Brooks, seemed to have been swiftly deleted by TikTok with a message which read “this video violates our community guidelines”.
It had been reinstated by the platform as of Friday night, when it was available to watch on his profile once again.
