American comedian Bill Maher occupies that rare position of the liberal leftie who is prepared to unflinchingly take on wokeness, somewhat like our own patron saint of anti-woke, Andrew Doyle.
On the latest edition of his HBO show, Real Time, Maher pulls no punches, opening his monologue with:
If you’re part of today’s woke revolution, you need to study the part of revolutions where they spin out of control because the revolutionaries get so drunk on their own purifying elixir, they imagine they can reinvent the very nature of human beings.
He then quips:
Yesterday I asked ChatGPT: “Are there any similarities between today’s woke revolution and Chairman Mao’s Cultural Revolution of the 1960s?” and it wrote back: “How long do you have?”
The joke is slightly flawed as there are many examples of ChatGPT being ultra-woke. But still, it is good to see Maher calling out wokeness for what it is.
Maher goes on to draw several parallels between the woke revolution and Maoism, ending with a reference to “re-education, or as we call it here in America, ‘freshman orientation’‘’.
He cites the example of Winston Marshall, kicked out of Mumford and Sons for reading a book, as our culture’s version of Mao’s Red Guard, asking “What happened to I can read whatever the f*** I want?”
Maher finishes with a scathing reminder of:
How good intentions can turn into the insane arrogance of thinking your revolution is so f***ing awesome, and your generation is so mind-bendingly improved, that you have bequeathed the world with a new kind of human… that human was no longer selfish, in America today that human is no longer born male or female, and obesity is not something that affects health.
Earlier this week, I wondered if Sturgeon’s insane trans policies could be woke’s Berlin Wall moment, and now Maher has come out with a similar analogy. I haven’t seen him at any of the secret meetings, so I wonder if people are finally ready to take down this woke revolution? It has been said many times, but have we finally reached ‘Peak Woke?’
