In this week’s episode of London Calling, James tells me about gathering wood to burn in his Rayburn cast iron stove so he and his family won’t freeze to death when the World Economic Forum cuts off the power this Winter; I read out an extract from ‘An Odd Couple For Our Odd Times’, a glowing article about London Calling in the National Review, and we both agree with the author that the debate between #TeamToby and #TeamJames is “the most relevant ongoing conversation on planet Earth”; I tell James about a new report from the Conservative Way Forward group documenting the enormous sums the British Government is spending on politically motivated campaigns every year; we briefly discuss Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary series, focusing on Harry’s slightly Plebeian accent; and, in Culture Corner, I urge people to stick with Andor, the only good Star Wars TV spin-off and sing the praises of the action scenes in Gangs of London, while James enthuses about his latest discovery, Hot Skull, a Turkish series about a world plunged into chaos by a pandemic; and, finally, I confess to having given up on Barry Lyndon and started listening to Hell’s March, the second book in Taylor Anderson’s Artilleryman series.
