News Round-Up

by Will Jones
18 July 2022 12:39 AM

  • “MPs warn schools not to close ahead of ‘ferocious’ 104°F tomorrow as Dominic Raab says we should be ‘resilient’ in heatwave” – Britain will be hotter than Delhi and the Sahara Desert on Monday with experts predicting the mercury could reach 41°C – double the U.K. summer average, but the Government has called for resilience and said people should “enjoy the sunshine”, according to the Mail.
  • “Trump aide claims Covid ‘came out of the box ready to infect’” – Dr. Deborah Birx told the Mail on Sunday that coronavirus “came out of the box ready to infect” when it emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2020.
  • “Monkey Up: U.S. Government quietly acquires 7 million monkeypox vaccines, as Fauci starts selling product on TV” – Yet there have been zero monkeypox deaths outside of Africa this year, writes Jordan Schachtel.
  • “Deutschland schafft sich ab” – Eugyppius writes that Germany faces its greatest economic crisis since the Second World War, thanks to the unrelenting idiocy of its political and media classes.
  • “WHO: Don’t Use Fluvoxamine for Treatment of COVID-19” – Trial Site News reports that, even though both fluvoxamine and colchicine showed positive results in major clinical trials, the WHO has recommended neither drug in its latest Covid treatment guidelines.
  • “Admiral Sir Tony Radakin: Hoping Putin is unwell or may be assassinated is ‘wishful thinking’” – The Telegraph reports that Britain’s armed forces chief has dismissed speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “not well” or could be assassinated as “wishful thinking”.
  • “John Christy Debunks Climate Models and Extreme Weather Hysteria With Laura Ingraham on Fox News” – Watch the July 14th 2022 episode of Ingraham Angle on WUWT.
  • “Revealed: Penny Mordaunt’s hidden equalities agenda” – The Spectator has obtained a recording of a speech Mordaunt gave to LGBT Tory activists in June 2018, in which she seemed to suggest that it was her strategy not to be straight about what she was doing, telling the room that she “can’t even be seen to be helping with” some of the proposed legislation she was privately championing.
  • “Brexit, Tory Britain could teach the EU a thing or two about diversity” – The field of leadership contenders makes a mockery of the notion that the U.K. is ‘racist’, says Zoe Strimpel in the Telegraph.
  • “The Free Speech Union says expanding reach of hate crime law in Northern Ireland risks ‘empowering the easily offended and endangering the peace process’” – The Free Speech Union has voiced fears that efforts to expand the boundaries of what counts as a hate crime could end up “endangering the peace process”, the Belfast News Letter reports.
  • “No one wants to join the military anymore” – Despite unprecedented bonuses of up to $50,000 for enlistment and retention, all branches of the military are falling short of their 2022 recruiting goals – and no wonder, says John Groom in Spectator World, since the elites’ culture war has targeted the very Americans who traditionally enlist.
  • “Trans inmate impregnates two other prisoners” – The Telegraph reports that Demi Minor, 27, who is serving 30 years for manslaughter, has now been moved to another prison.
  • “Woke Whitehall flushes away £200k of your cash on mixed-sex toilets” – Female civil servants have been left feeling “intimidated” by a lack of single-sex lavatories after 266 mixed facilities were installed over the last four years, reports the Mail.
  • “Kemi Badenoch vows to free up police by stopping them intervening in social media clashes” – Kemi Badenoch accused senior police leaders of failing to ensure resources are targeted at the things “the public really care about” as she vowed to end the “policing of people’s hurt feelings”, the Mail reports.
  • “‘Penny Mordaunt views’ at odds with Red Wall voters” – Polling has revealed that a majority of Red Wall voters disagree with statements similar to Tory leadership contender Penny Mordaunt’s past positions on transgender issues, the British Empire and Dad’s Army, the Telegraph reports.
  • “Grooming gangs: the making of a national scandal” – Rakib Ehsan in Spiked on how the British state turned a blind eye to the rape of thousands of children.
  • “Anti-racist activists don’t speak for ethnic-minority Britons” – On matters of crime and policing the activist class is painfully out-of-touch, says Inaya Folarin Iman in Spiked.
  • “Censorship on social media platforms is already extensive” – Watch Toby on GB News react to the Online Safety Bill being on hold until the appointment of a new Prime Minister.

'I sincerely hope we haven't lost much time at all.'

“Revealed: Penny Mordaunt’s hidden equalities agenda”

Well, all western governments have a ‘hidden agenda’, on the basis of ‘vote us in and you get a load of claptrap we didn’t mention’, so I don’t suppose Penny is that exceptional. I wonder what surprise they have for us next. Maybe Ukraine going Centralised Crypto Currency and Social Credits in the middle of a ‘war’? Nah, that was announced yesterday.

In poker a bad beat is essentially extreme bad luck. Anyone who’s played poker enough (and understands probability) knows that bad beats happen all the time because they’re actually quite common.

The chance of somebody pulling a one outer on the river is roughly 2%. This is when they only have one card to draw that can save them from losing. If it happens it will usually be greeted with disbelief, frustration and anger from the one who just lost.

But when you look at the actual probability of pulling a one outer, it’s not vastly different to rolling 1 and 1 or 6 and 6 with two dice (2.1% for a one outer vs 2.7% for the dice rolls). Nobody shouts “OMG that is unbelievable” when you need and roll a two in a game of Snakes and Ladders.

There are forums full of bad beat stories from people lamenting their bad luck. If you’re a bad player you’ll only ever play strong hands (this is bad because you’ll become so obvious that a good player will avoid playing you). If you only ever play strong hands, at some point you’re going to lose a hand to an unlikely draw of a card, most likely to a bad player who hasn’t worked out you only play strong hands, it’s just probability.

This is no different to people who avoid social contact, wear N95s all day long and generally spend their lives avoiding the inevitable.

“I did everything right, how did this happen?” – sound familiar?

Stories of people doing all they can to avoid getting coronavirus and getting it anyway are the equivalent of a poker bad beat. It’s so common that only the person bemoaning it thinks it’s a special event.

And as in poker, I imagine most people have a similar mindset when they hear such tales of woe…

Nobody wants to hear your bad beat story.

ATL..Eugyppius…Germany is facing its biggest economic crisis since the war…

This is the richest economy in Europe…..
Providing ‘warming rooms’ where people can go if they can’t stay warm at home….these are also being touted in the UK..Bristol’s Mayor has already suggested them….
Businesses will suffer blackouts and may close..with the ensuing unemployment,…the same with school and shops, and leisure facilities…
….even hospitals might be affected.
Fuel and food prices set to rise even further….

And still no one, no one at all, is making the slightest effort to talk to Russia? Why?
The ONLY thing we hear about is more money and more arms-shipments……
Where is the money supposed to come from?
This should be telling us all a lot ….

I notice in the article people are being advised about log burners….although there may also be a shortage of wood..

Just ironic really that the country that has the most forests? Russia!!

https://off-guardian.org/2022/07/18/why-the-bbcs-new-anti-vaxxer-documentary-is-a-complete-farce/

A typically brilliant and well-researched piece from Iain Davis which takes apart the upcoming BBC anti vaxxer “documentary”. Apologies – propoganda piece.
