If a people is successfully worked on by behavioural psychologists, but democracy is power of that same people, then what does democracy do? Presumably it amplifies the effect of the behavioural psychologists.

You might say that but all systems have a negative feedback loop. Put another way; the sheep are fooled by the manipulators;t becomes a perversion of democracy. Those who are awake enough to understand the perversion, turn to neccesarily non-democratic means to redress the balance. Leading to civil war.

Those who are too stupid to read and understand history are condemned to repeat it. The behavioral psychologists ( called many other things in the past ) get to be suspended by the neck from lamposts. As they richly desrve.

If there were such a thing as a politically homogeneous people, then politics, let alone democratic politics would not happen. If a belief or vested interest is universally held, it is by definition, not political.

For democratic politics to happen, there must be open, uncensored exchange of opinions and perspectives. This process has been assaulted by those claiming to favour it, in the name of combating "dangerous misinformation". In the name of "The Science".

Science is also a process. If it is to be used for political purposes, it also must be an open process for democracy to survive. Not all opinions will be equally valid; they all need to be weighed up against evidence. But censorship and bullying of scientists who find themselves out of favour is inimical to the process.

Behavioural psychologists are social scientists. Their science is necessarily a subjective one, involving a feedback loop. They are themselves among their research material. Unlike lab rats, the society they study can hear what is being said about it, which can affect the behaviour being studied.

The recent propaganda, censorship, editorial control of trusted media, and social isolation has afforded these social scientists the opportunity to manipulate society in ways that make it more like a lab rat maze than previously. Their interests are inimical to those of democracy unless they accept ethical restraints on their practices.

Of course, democracy cannot be just a talking shop. Planning decisions have to be made, so there have to be winners and losers. Some kind of voting. The problem now is too many people think democracy is all about voting and majority opinion at the particular point in time when it happens. Many of them haven't even noticed the other aspects of democracy being assaulted, or the experiments they have been subjected to. They also have a naive view of science.
