Could be higher than 83% depending on some estimates of R0.
Add that to waning immunity and the efficacy against infection on average is poor (mainly due to AZ) then there simply arent enough adults to vaccinate to acquire HI, likely ever.
We don't need herd immunity but ultimately its incredibly unlikely the UK will ever achieve it due to a combination of its no under 18s policy (good decision) and low efficacy vaccination.
We're destined to have higher cases and circulation than most countries but cases in themselves don't matter at all now.
