Zack Polanski has admitted he didn’t vote in last week’s local elections, despite telling the Greens’ mayoral candidate in Hackney “You have my vote” and claims from his spokesman that he had voted by post. The Mail has more.
The Green leader was campaigning in Wales on polling day but his spokesman indicated he’d cast a postal vote in Hackney the day before.
He even told the London borough’s mayoral candidate in an online post: “You have my vote.”
But following questions about the surprising move, he admitted that he had not had time to register to vote after moving home.
It comes after he admitted he had not paid council tax during the three years he lived on a houseboat.
He is believed to have moved to rented accommodation earlier this year but appears not to have registered to vote at his new address.
Polanski faced questions about whether he had voted because it is highly unusual for a party leader not to be pictured voting on election day – usually in a place where they are expected to do well.
He publicly pledged his support to Zoe Garbett, the Green candidate who went on to become Hackney mayor, telling her “you have my vote” in a campaign video released on May 3rd. …
Polanski’s admission is the latest in a series of episodes in which he has had to admitted he has not told the truth.
He previously denied that a houseboat had been his main residence for three years before later admitting it.
He said he was now seeking “clarity” over whether council tax was owed.
He also falsely claimed that he worked at the Ministry of Justice while campaigning for elected office.

Why even bother writing about this guy?
I’m no fan of Polanski but have you noticed how quickly minor issues are utilised as a means of scoring a political point? Some reason why Farage is the very devil. How a cake brought about Boris’ downfall? Even Rayner and her tax issues.
It’s almost as if there is no speedy way of dealing with political opposition except through media attacks. Strangely the media attacks often apply to only people who might change the status quo. Yet Starmer’s beer and curry are not followed up, nor his gifts of suits and glasses.
Hmm.
Many seem to prefer this. It may suit those in power as it’s a distraction from the serious stuff, the damage they are doing.
Except that evidence of being a pathological liar is not nothing.
It should disqualify you from public office.
Reform must get this imposter in its cross hairs (metaphorically speaking, not hate speech…). And it needs to be shouted from the rooftops that in any upcoming by-election, the people of England do not take kindly to being told how they are going to vote; Burnham can take absolutely nothing for granted.
I take it back, he is a boob whisperer. Every time he opens his mouth he makes a bigger tit of himself.
So he’s like the majority of voters who do not vote in local elections then; spot the cynic. And then the polls “experts” have difficulties in working out what happens when the rest of them turn out to vote in Parliamentary elections, perhaps assuming it is the same proportion – which is often not true.
My guess is that the main difference between local and general election voting patterns is that in local elections people are more likely to vote for the party they most support, whereas in a GE they may vote tactically.
Unless they’re Muslims or terrorist sympathising flag wavers in which case they’ll vote for the anti-Semitic Greens.
Especially now that the Greens look like they might take lots of seats.
