People are already calling this new party ‘Jezbollah’;

”Far-left MP Zarah Sultana has announced her resignation from the U.K. Labour Party and revealed plans to form a new political party alongside former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Sultana, who was stripped of the Labour whip last year, said the new party would bring together independent MPs, campaigners, and activists to take on what she described as a “broken” Westminster system.

“Today, after 14 years, I’m resigning from the Labour Party,” she declared in a statement. “Jeremy Corbyn and I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other Independent MPs, campaigners, and activists across the country.”
She accused both Labour and the Conservatives of overseeing “managed decline and broken promises” and vowed to keep fighting on issues such as poverty and Gaza. In her statement, Sultana warned that the country faces a political choice at the next general election, saying, “In 2029, the choice will be stark: socialism or barbarism.”

One definition of ‘Propaganda’ is “a systematic attempt to shape perceptions using biased or misleading information”.

One can regard a ‘systematic attempt’ to be repetition of reports concerning a particular incident, in which case I would describe such to be the repeated DS articles on, and references to, the boring Bob Vylan event, with people chanting “Death to the IDF”.

For anyone’s information, just two news items generated by Middle East Eye 4 hours ago:

Israeli fighter jets bombed tents housing displaced Palestinians across Gaza …, killing at least 25 people in the al-Mawasi area, a beach in Khan Younis, and near the Taiba Towers, Al Jazeera Arabic reported, citing local and hospital sources.

At least 101 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza on Thursday, medical sources told Al Jazeera, including at least 51 people who were waiting for humanitarian aid.

You can replace ‘Israeli’ with ‘IDF’ in these reports, whereby there are other reports that US contractors are (also) firing at the queues of starving people waiting at the GHF (Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) food distribution sites.

It must be so much fun shooting at starving Palestinians that even foreigners join in!

I would never thought I would agree with anything ex-EU Josep Borrell wrote but yesterday he wrote on X (whereby is he only criticizing USA?):

In 1 month 550 starving Palestinians have been killed by US mercenaries while trying to get food at the points indicated by the so called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. This is horrendous but @EU_Commission and @EUCouncil remain unwilling to take any action against these crimes

Anyway, in view of the clear and unquestionable ongoing genocide carried out by the IDF, I see no reason for the propaganda-like repetition of reports asking us to be sympathetic to the murderous Israeli so-called Defence Forces.

Why is it so difficult for people to criticise BOTH SIDES in this appalling war?

Good question. I put it down to cognitive dissonance.

Many people have argued one side so vehemently and for so long that it’s just terribly hard to change course.

Like Owen Jones in that clip. Realises he’s messed up but is desperate not to look stupid. You can see his brain scrambling for an argument to finesse his way out of it.

Who has an army, an air force and a navy? Who has attack helicopters and tanks? Who has the full backing of USA in case its army, air force and navy should also be required?

I was not aware that Hamas or Hezbollah or any other “terrorists” were equally well equipped, but Israel needs all its military forces to compete with terrorists? Really? Or is Israel just wiping out civilians all over the place in its attempt to subjugate all neighbouring countries? Would that possibly be the reason why Israel experiences resistance from all these countries? Is such resistance justified or not?

Are you seriously claiming that the outbreak on 7th October is a justification for the 600+ days of serial bombing and attacks on the Palestinian population in Gaza since? Would that be presenting both sides of this conflict? But is the 600+ days response not even slightly excessive in your view? Or are you claiming that Palestinians are murdering hundreds of Israelis each day?

I am sorry if my posts bore you but I happen to think the UK government – as well as other Western governments subservient to USA (all Western governments) – are acting disgracefully in unquestioningly supporting Israel’s every move.

I have written before that I am amazed at how many people support Israel despite all the dreadfully disturbing photographs and reports written by the many brave journalists reporting directly from the area (assuming they do not belong to the 200+ already successfully eliminated by Israel).

If you find any part of my posts to be incorrect, then please let me know. It is tiring to be accused of “cognitive dissonance” or some similar malady without having anyone specifically point out any errors.

I wasn’t accusing anyone in particular of cognitive dissonance. Just generally anyone who vehemently defends one side over the other in a conflict as long, bloody and complicated as this one.

I more or less agree with godknowsimgood that there are appalling actions on all sides of the conflict.

I could present a strong case defending Israel and I could also present a strong case defending the Palestinians. I present strong cases both condemning Israel and condemning the Palestinian side for their actions.

What can I say, it’s a shit show and at this point the conflict and killing should just stop, regardless of who is wrong or right. Each side trying to convince the rest of the world that they are the virtuous ones and the other side are monsters is what will continue prolonging the conflict.

I certainly agree the killing should stop but where did you ever hear any arguments for Hamas which, by the way, would be illegal in our wonderful country (Hamas being declared a terrorist organization)?

And the point of the matter is Israel may supposedly be fighting Hamas but, that being apparently too difficult (?), it simply kills insane numbers of civilians.

The very simple answer is that Israel must stop its genocide (yes, that word is applicable) and start negotiations that will lead to a lasting peace in the area. It may be difficult but that is the only way forward – for a civilized country.

I am not sure why I should criticize both sides in this conflict. You learn one side only from mainstream media (and from the Daily Sceptic): basically, Israel is good, Arabs are inferior and generally terrorists, and you should scream “Objection!” every time anyone mentions the word ‘genocide’.

I simply wish to point out there is indeed another viewpoint and hopefully encourage others to question what they are being told. (And I am thankful that DS provides me the opportunity to do so.)

The anti-semitism is so rife in the West and the Middle East, that I don’t believe any news reports from any mainstream news outlet about alleged Israeli atrocities unless it is confirmed by an independent outlet. Even then, I remain less than 100% convinced.

You give me the impression that you are prepared to believe anything anti-Israeli.

People happily conflate anti-Semitism with anti-Israelism or anti-IDFism. The fact that Israel is happily and purposefully murdering hundreds of civilians, not only in Israel, appears not to upset many people in the fabled West. The USA clearly does the same, recently at the behest of Israel, or do you really believe Donald Trump could point to Somalia or Yemen on the map? (He may know where Iran is.)

What is true and what is false? How can any news report be confirmed unless you personally experience whatever is reported? The answer is partly trusting the source of the information, partly assessing other reports, assessing contradicting reports and whatever else you wish.

In my opinion, there is no such thing as an “independent outlet”. Mainstream media reporters have their bosses who decide what may be published and what may not be published. Those bosses have their bosses, and so on up the career ladder until you reach the top and either some government official of some billionaire owner tells you what you may publish and what you may not publish.

Even trusted journalists may make mistakes.

But an accolade of independent reports all pointing in one direction may certainly be significant (assuming they are not from a government).

As far as Israel is concerned, your mainstream media will report the country is always justifiably acting in self-defence. But you can look up the series of letters which Western doctors, who volunteered service in Gaza’s hospitals, have written to US, Canadian and UK leaders, pleading to stop Israel’s war crimes and describing the atrocities taking place there. You can look up the testimony made recently by one such doctor at a UN Security Council meeting. You can look up the statements made by United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese. You can look up the testimonies made by numerous countries on the matter of Israel committing genocide before the ICJ. You can ask yourself basic questions, such as was it ethical for Israel to execute so many Iranian scientists, together with their families and hundreds of others, while Iran was in negotiations with USA? You can ask yourself if it is ethical for Israel to bomb and invade foreign countries at will? You can ask yourself why Israel has been killing Palestinians in Gaza for the past 21 months – just because of 7th October, really? And so on and so forth.

Essentially you decide what you want to believe and nobody else.

The concept of the Digital ID rears its head again.
Yesterday the announcement of NHS reform included the idea that with the NHS app you could get a same day appointment (although it appears this will be virtual with AI involvement). So what happens if you don’t want/have the app?
We need much more of a debate on this!
As a sceptic I am of the opinion digital ID is the road to control by the backdoor and we need a digital bill of rights.
