Keir Starmer’s Human Rights Lawyer Chum is Shipwrecking His Government

by Will Jones
16 January 2025 1:00 PM

From handing over the Chagos Islands to changing the law to put Gerry Adams in line for compensation, from clamping down on tweets to going after Israel, Keir Starmer has consistently made decisions that owe more to the tendentious theories of human rights lawyers than sensible politics and the national interest. Behind many of these bizarre decisions is his old chum Richard Hermer KC, a human rights lawyers of some three decades whom Starmer parachuted into the Lords to serve as his Attorney General, and whose doctrinaire Leftist legal advice is now shipwrecking his Government. The Telegraph‘s Gordon Rayner has more.

Sir Keir, it was said, trusted him to give unbiased opinions rather than trying to please him with favourable interpretations of the law. But that long career in human rights law also meant Lord Hermer had accumulated a collection of clients and cases that would not always sit comfortably with his role as a Cabinet Minister.

As we know, they included Gerry Adams, the former Sinn Fein President, whom Lord Hermer represented when he was sued by victims of IRA bombings.

Mr. Adams is now in line for taxpayer-funded compensation after Sir Keir decided to repeal a law that blocked him from claiming damages for internment in the 1970s.

Lord Hermer was acting for Mr. Adams in a private case in 2023, which was unrelated to Sir Keir’s decision to change the law, and Downing Street has refused to say whether he was involved in discussions about the law change.

But his presence in Government has been keenly felt ever since he was parachuted into the job. In accepting the role of Attorney General, he became the first person since 1922 to take on the job without ever serving in Parliament.

He was soon pressed into action following the riots sparked by the stabbing of three girls in Southport last July.

It was he who advised Sir Keir that it would be lawful to charge social media users with stirring up racial hatred online, which led to controversial prison sentences. He later said people could not “hide behind a keyboard” and would find themselves in a cell if they incited racial and religious hatred online. …

But it is Lord Hermer’s involvement in decisions about foreign policy that have the most far-reaching implications.

He was deeply involved in the decision to withdraw the U.K.’s objections to arrest warrants being issued against Israeli officials by the International Criminal Court, and was instrumental in the decision to suspend some export permits for weapons to Israel last year.

He also said Britain had an “obligation” under international law to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, even though an International Court of Justice advisory opinion on the matter was in no way legally binding.

Although he has never been an MP, Lord Hermer has staunch Left-wing views that have not wavered since his student days. …

Critics believe he has become too powerful in Government. He has issued instructions to lawyers in Government departments to “stand up for the rule of law” and send him “full and frank advice” on the legality of Government decisions.

This, Dr. Yuan Yi Zhu, a senior fellow at Policy Exchange, said in the Spectator, is a sign that the Attorney General effectively held a veto over policies and that lawyers were giving directions to elected politicians, rather than the other way around.

Worth reading in full.

Two cults, Two sets of retards with overlapping memberships and elite control – Korona and Klimat.

1970s – Globaloney Cooling and the coming Ice Age. 1980s GlobaloneyWarming. 2000s Weirding Weathering. 2010s Globaloney Changing. 2023 Globaloney Boiling. Not sure where you can go with the bullshit propaganda after boiling (melting?).

Temps, ice coverage, have done nada since 1970s. And you might have noticed in the UK the worst July evah in temps – ugly, rainy, no sun. Undoubtedly July here will be the hottest evah….

Data fraud. Measurement fraud. Money for propaganda (fat chicks for free). A cult dedictated, like Rona, to erasing our liberty, civilisation and reality (fascism).

For the record fossils don’t make hydrocarbons, which are abiotic and burning them has zero impact on weather or climate. Ending them does nothing. So yeah a complete corrupt cult of f*ing stupid.

I was thinking about what’s the next catchphrase for the catastrophists – global evaporating or global steaming just don’t seem to have the right ring about them, do they?

I thought about global grilling but that would imply an external heat source – like that big yellow thing in the sky that’s been in very short supply around these parts recently – but it wouldn’t play into The Narrative™, would it?

I like that — Let’s have a global grilling instead of a global boiling!

🙂

But grilling is something which is done and not suffered, hence, it doesn’t really fit.

We’ve just “enjoyed” a cold, miserable July – temperatures way below average – yet we’re supposed to believe the seas are boiling.

It’s fiction; there is no genuine science underpinning the climate hysteria, just the Globalists’ desire for money, power and control of the masses.

Fortunately, now it’s becoming obvious to many “ordinary” people that the goal is to impoverish them and reduce their standard of living, they’re starting to kick back.

And in addition to the temperature levels, the solar PV output at my place was -13% down compared with the 5 year average. My apple trees are a bit slow and late on account of the reduced amount of useful light as well. No shortage of water though; I expect the water companies will be quiet about reservoir levels for a while.

Unfortunately my impression is that well-briefed alarmists will snort and say, “Don’t you people recognise a bit of legitimate political hyperbole in talking about the earth boiling?”

And then they will criticise the political backlash against ULEZ by saying the opponents don’t care about all those children dying from PM2.5. In vain will you suggest there may be a little scientific hyperbole going on as well.

Of course we shouldn’t expect anything else..the zero green nutters are no different to any single cause nutters…they always think they are right..they always want to punish and malign and exclude people who they think are wrong..or who don’t agree….
they always want to insist that the ‘subject/science is settled’ with ‘101% of scientists/experts in full agreement’™️

And they NeVeR admit when they are wrong….!

Just like Communism. A few unfortunate glitches in the past.

But when I am running the show, with my very own dictatoship of the proletariat, it will be an utopian paradise on Earth!

Just like in Brazil, where Jail-Bird Loopy da Silva has restored the Amazon 60% in six months! Some “scientists” say, no, Miraculous! At least 70%! Even more! Just shows what getting rid of “far-right” Jair Bolsonaro achieved!

More communists! Just the ticket!

If the whole planet achieved net zero today it wouldn’t change CO2 levels for at least 100 years. Net Zero is a stupid and pointless exercise. Add that to the fact that (a) the world will not achieve Net Zero for another 50 years and (b) it’s not even CO2 that causes climate change, the stupidity and pointlessness of Net Zero increases exponentially.

Net Zero is likely to be interpreted as a commercial opportunity by some. From their perspective, it’s not stupid – just another financial route to follow. Whether that’s good for most of us, that’s open to discussion (at least, I hope so).

The “Climate is boiling” anouncement by the U.N demonstrates beyond doubt the contempt with which they hold those who are not in their tax free earnings, its who you know, not what you know club. They clearly think we are all stupid and I suppose as in the era of Covid will believe anything told to us by “authority” figures rather than trusting what we see for ourselves.

Although I don’t think we are at “global boiling” 😀 just yet it is good to know that I have contributed in at least a small way to raising the temperature of the planet. Northern England is decidedly on the cool side and is also very wet and has been throughout July so if we all hadn’t contributed to a bit of AGW we would have been shivering terribly.

Maybe not boiling but getting up to a simmer would certainly be a tad more comfortable.

Interesting observation: So-called extremely hot global temperatures always coincide with summer in the northern hemisphere. If this supposedly natural phenomenon is truly global, why doesn’t it also happen in the European winter when it’s summer in the southern hemisphere?

“If you constantly communicate the message that we are all doomed to extinction, then that paralyses people and prevents them from taking the necessary steps to get a grip on climate change,”

Doesn’t get it dies he. People realise it’s all a load of baloney and there’s nothing to get a ‘grip’ on.

And when was there ever clilate stasis?

Climate change deniers are those who deny climate change can happen unless Mankind burns fossil fuels, and they deny it has ever happened frequently in the past prior to the Industrial Revolution.

Net Zero is an eco-marxist fantasy aimed at impoverishing Canada and the Western world. Net zero is unnecessary, immoral and fantastical. Unnecessary because the minimal warming that CO2 might cause will be beneficial to mankind just like the Roman and Medieval warm periods were. Already the extra atmospheric CO2 has greened the planet by over 30% and is responsible in part for the significantly improved crop yields that we have witnessed. Net Zero is immoral because not using hydrocarbons will drive up the cost of energy, further impoverish the poor and prevent third world nations from having reliable grid electricity so that they can raise their standard of living to Western levels. Finally Net Zero is fantastical as hydrocarbons are the very basis of our high quality of life and longevity. Without hydrocarbons we would have no steel, no cement, no fertilizer and none of the versatile plastics that make our lives so convenient and our healthcare safe and effective.
Net zero will return us to a medieval existence when life was nasty brutish and short.

“heat highs amidst the jet exhaust at British airports”
It is obvious that this is neither good nor honest science. To have any credibility, we should be looking for the COLDEST examples. When everywhere is LESS COLD than it has ever been, we can say with truth that things are hotting up overall. Trouble is, it still won’t tell us whether fossil fuels are responsible, but at least it would justify an urgent and scientific search for cause.
