They say suicide is never the answer: but this rather depends on what the question is. If life in Starmer’s Britain should ever get too much for you, Australian activist Dr. Philip Nitschke has a handy new remedy to hand in shape of his ‘Sarco Pod’, an airtight capsule into which a suicidal individual climbs alive, only to emerge again dead a few minutes later, following release of deadly nitrogen gas; a woman in Switzerland has just been the first to go through with using one.
Many readers will have some sympathy with those suffering from incurable diseases like cancer who wish to put a swift and painless end to their agony. Yet Dr. Nitschke says anyone should be able to make use of his pods, even perfectly healthy and pain-free individuals, the decision to kill oneself being the sole business of the individual concerned within a truly free society. As he once told the Guardian, access to assisted dying should be “an essential human right”. In Nitschke’s ideal world, “everybody qualifies” for assisted euthanasia, not just the already seriously ill, but even those “who want to die for social reasons”.

How much attention seeking and victimhood can one individual create for themselves? Seriously they are clearly disturbed, so why they are lecturing on social sciences is beyond me, I think we need to stop giving these people the oxygen of publicity, in other words the attention they so desperately want, it only encourages them to even greater feats of “look at me”, and encourages others. Clearly this individual has never been told to stop showing off and trying to be the centre of attention, as most spoiled children used to be.
I’ve recently completely my essay ‘Idiotism: A New Theoretical Framework to Conceptualise Idiocy From an Anti-Oppressive Perspective‘.
Just as society used to exist in a state of “compulsory intelligence” when being an idiot was generally considered illegal or unthinkable, so the structurally idiotist societies of today lock people within a prison of “compulsory intelligence” which “aims to impose on everyone a performance of intelligence designed to make the idiocy of some people abnormal, unconceivable and unintelligible”.
It won’t sell indeed Amazon might not list it if you don’t include modern feeder words in the title.
If anyone here has watched the slightly dystopian sci-fi comedy Futurama (much like the Simpsons) they will know that Suicide Pods are a part of that future. They sit on street corners like phone boxes, you pop in if you’re having a bit of a bad day and, hey presto, you’re dead. This was supposed to be a ridiculous and horrible idea, which of course it is.
If we’re now allowed to kill ourselves at will, could someone please bring back the big glass bottles of 100 paracetamols so that I can stop having to buy those faffy little plastic blister packets every 5 minutes? Much better for the environment as well.
This Baril person seems to be an excellent advert for the fact that transitioning to the opposite gender is absolutely not a cure for mental health issues such as depression and suicidality.
Come to Thailand – 100 paracetamol of 500mg each in a plastic tub. Then again if you are really determined how about a tub of 1000 tablets. I must admit I had to look twice at this tub.
I can’t help feeling that all this talk about “suicide” is just a smokescreen.
Most of us on this forum agree will probably agree that there are serious, concentrated efforts going on to establish the foundations of a totalitarian society.
This was revealed during the pandemic. Mandated vaccination, censorship, lockdowns, all that.
But in a true totalitarian society the state also needs to acquire the right to decide who can and can’t exist. This was practiced in Germany by the “Lebensunwertes Leben” movement (involuntary euthanasia), in the Soviet Union by mass executions.
So I think the subject of suicide and its popularization is just to soften up public opinion for a graduation introduction of state euthanasia – of course it will be done for our benefit, with the best of intentions, just like the vaccines were. Give it a few years and you’ll find yourself in a position where after you become useless for the state (pensioners, economically inactive, long term sick), you will be pressured to opt for “voluntary” euthanasia.
Just like about 25% of pregnancies these days end in abortion (that’s 6 million since 1967 and counting), we’ll get to a point when assisted suicide will be just as common, easily accessible and prevalent.
In parallel I guess they will also ban any protest against this practice.
Brave new world, my friends.
They could have let covid wipe out a few more people if they really wanted, but then I guess that couldn’t be classed as “voluntary”, perhaps.
Vernon Coleman has written many articles on exactly this point, e.g. https://expose-news.com/2024/10/17/we-must-stop-euthanasia-becoming-legal-in-the-uk/.
Suicide is not hard. Just fly somewhere really cold and drink yourself to sleep on a rocking chair on the porch. Easy painless death and finally you can get that 30 year old whiskey out of the cupboard. ‘But I don’t drink’ they say (facepalm).
Legalising assisted suicide is all about making suicide, or maybe just the assistance of it, socially accepted. It has nothing to do with ‘access to safe and painless suicide’. As somebody said, it’s a short step from it being accepted to required.
To be fair, if I were to find myself in a sweet spot, where I was so old and infirm that I wasn’t enjoying life, and I did feel a burden to others, but I was still able to do the deed, I’d consider it. But I wouldn’t expect anybody else to help. Nor would I want them to.
Love the word “sarcopod” – provider of Sarcocide, death by Sarcasm. But I doubt death by nitrogen is instant or painless – it’s not toxic, it suffocates you. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t provide the “beautiful death” advertised by @MarieCurieUK.
Amyway, what’s stopping the able-bodied topping themselves by any means they choose?
“deadly nitrogen gas”
In that case we are in deadly danger as the atmosphere is nearly 80% Nitrogen.
I think that 21% might make all the difference…
And so context and proportion is everything. And this also applies to just about everything including the actual subject under discussion. Activism, on any subject, appears to be devoid of any context and proportion.
You are correct, of course. It’s not the presence of Nitrogen that kills the person but the absence of Oxygen. Nitrogen is not deadly in itself, lack of Oxgen is.
I was reminded of a friend of mine who has a serious mental health condition.
He went to his therapist and said ‘I want to kill myself’.
The therapist said ‘just out of interest, if you were to commit suicide, how would you do it?’
‘A gun?’
‘Have you got a gun?’
‘No’
‘You’re not going to kill yourself’.
I think successful suicide is actually pretty difficult. You need to take a very well-planned approach and people in extremis are generally not very good at planning. So perhaps this ‘trans-suicidal’ community is made up of those who tried but failed? But how would you weed out the ‘drama queens’ who make suicidal gestures that are bound to fail?
Looks really like a bloke to me; are you sure s/he was born a female?
I’d say definately a man, as for suicide, dont need some eejit telling people, its your right etc, as a hospital worker once told me, there are those who try it seeking attention, and those who dont mean it, but go too far, life is the most precious gift you will ever get and people like this narcisstic idiot need to remember that, you dont need books or laws, its always your choice, whats more worrying is Governments legalizing it and it being wrongly used, ie midazolam, during Convid and DNR’s.
“deadly nitrogen gas…”.
It is NOT! You can happily breath it, it’s the quantity that can be deadly. Every breath you take is 78% nitrogen. 100% nitrogen excludes all oxygen so you asphyxiate.
I must admit I got extremely bored part way through this article about this ridiculous person, but it has raised a question in my mind about the convoluted use of language these days that is making it difficult for me to keep up with the language of my birth. So, a racist is someone who likes the concept of racism because they dislike people of other races. An Islamist is someone who accepts the orthodoxy of Islam and, presumably likes the religion and the followers of that religion. However, in the language of this person, a suicidist is someone who is opposed to suicide and rejects it, rather than a supporter. Can you see my confusion here. It’s a bit like someone who has a fear of something, in other words, a phobic, is an evil person who is to be condemned, whatever the cause of that fear, understandable or not, rather than someone who is violently opposed to something and who should be more properly described, perhaps, as an anti-islamist rather than an islamaphobic.
