Campus mobs, preferred pronouns, artworks consigned to the dustbin of history, controversial views dismissed as ‘misinformation’, children’s books censored, de facto blasphemy laws, employees sacked for having the ‘wrong’ opinions, celebrities cancelled for theirs… the battle to defend free speech is never ending.
This is your opportunity to hear from me in person in Cambridge about my efforts to lead the fightback.
In 2020, inspired by my own brush with cancel culture, I founded the Free Speech Union. Since then, the FSU has come to the defence of over 2,000 people who’ve found themselves in trouble for exercising their lawful right to free speech and has achieved a successful outcome in about 70% of cases. As the General Secretary, I run the organisation, working with a team of 16 on everything from parliamentary lobbying to fundraising, while raising awareness of free speech issues through my regular appearances in the media. The FSU now has 11,000 members and a budget of over £1 million a year, making it Britain’s most effective bulwark in defence of free speech.
Join me on Thursday June 15th at the Clayton Hotel, Cambridge (27-29 Station Road, Cambridge CB1 2FB) to hear me in conversation with journalist and author, Jane Robins. Jane has worked as a foreign correspondent for the Economist, as editor of The Week in Westminster on Radio 4, an adviser in the BBC’s Policy Unit, and as the media editor of the Independent on Sunday. She now writes books and has published three works of non-fiction and two novels.
There will be plenty of time for discussion, as well as socialising with fellow free speech supporters – and Daily Sceptic readers – afterwards.
The bar opens at 6.30pm, the interview and Q&A begins at 7pm and we are aiming to wrap up by 8.45pm, with drinks continuing until 10pm. The Clayton Hotel is a two-minute walk from the station.
FSU members can book tickets FREE of charge for themselves and their friends. Non-members will have to pay a nominal fee of £10. Members receive discounts for live events and exclusive access to online content, so do consider joining the FSU if you haven’t already. Membership starts from as little as £2.49 per month.
