Since some of Spain’s most popular tourist haunts started to object to the numbers (well, the non-business-owners did) I got the impression that the tourist tax was a way to encourage the wealthier, older and bigger-spending tourists to keep coming, while discouraging the unwanted cheap-package tourists.
Never been to Spain, so unlikely to affect me, but I think these moves are being looked at by the likes of Portugal, too.

https://www.chathamhouse.org/events/all/standard-event/what-learn-russias-state-duma-elections

Russia will hold elections for the ninth State Duma from September 18 to 20, 2026. Vladimir Putin even lost at some polling stations in 2024. Davankov, who came second then, garnered more votes than Putin in 15 European countries, as well as Argentina, Paraguay, and Israel…achieved his highest results in Serbia and Montenegro…the support of more than two-thirds of voters.

That is why, on August 10 2026, the Supreme Court struck the liberal party Yabloko candidate list from this Duma election.

‘Yabloko has a position on issues that are sensitive to the authorities, above all the war. People are tired of it, and if the theme of peace is officially raised in [Yabloko’s] campaigning, it will inevitably attract voters.’

“Elections are run with the results adjusted anyway, and who knows what other decisions the commission will have to make as [campaigning] goes on.

“Yabloko’s fate could not have turned out any other way,” and not only because of the party’s rising poll numbers. “The subject of ending the war would have run through the whole campaign, and every poll shows public demand for it…”

Sweden’s experience shows how a populist party can force the establishment to adopt its immigration policies – only to see its own support collapse once those policies become mainstream, says Jake Wallis Simons in the Telegraph.”

It’s one thing “adopting” policies, another thing actually carrying them out consistently. Let’s examine the track record of the Fake Conservative Party on that score.

Let’s also examine that on a daily basis multiple articles appear in the “right wing” media that are designed to discredit Reform or make the Fake Conservatives seem worth electing. Is this spontaneous?

Perhaps if there is any fallout over the Reform donations then the donors might consider funding their own journalists and online platform designed to do a similar job from a pro Reform viewpoint and call it say UK News or something similar, but of course it will not have to conform to OFCOM rules other than On-line Safety, which doesn’t demand political balance like GB News (but not apparently other broadcasters) has to hobble itself with.
