A village fightback against migrant camps is set to spread across the country as Piddington in Oxfordshire today holds a symbolic referendum on leaving the UK in protest against plans to move up to 1,250 male asylum seekers into a former army barracks close to the village of 350 people. The Telegraph has the story.
The parish has been approached by hundreds of other villages and towns nationwide for advice on replicating the campaign, which has won the backing of the Conservatives and Reform.
As well as the vote, Piddington’s villagers have drawn up plans to install a network of wireless CCTV cameras, an emergency alert system and security patrol teams over fears of being outnumbered by a ratio of nearly four to one.
Speaking to the Telegraph on the eve of the vote, which is expected to pass unanimously, women who live in the village said they planned to take up self-defence classes because of fears about the influx of migrants.
Tim McNally, the Chairman of Piddington parish council, said that hundreds of other areas wanted to follow his blueprint to fight back against migrant camps.
He said: “We have been working in the background with other areas who feel the same as us, who feel they have not been represented and been run over roughshod. What has happened to our politics to allow this to happen?
“When I first published the blueprint, I had over 500 inquiries from across the UK, from parish and town councillors. The aim of our referendum is for them to go and do it themselves.”
Nigel Farage’s party has pledged to support any other areas that want to hold votes.
Suella Braverman, the Reform UK MP, who visited Piddington on Monday, said she had heard “first-hand from women who are absolutely terrified about what this migrant facility will mean for their families and their community”.
She added: “This is a Government imposing its will on local people and expecting them to simply accept it. It is an appalling abuse of power.
“Reform UK stands shoulder to shoulder with any community that Labour plans to do this to. We will detain and deport all illegal arrivals and put the interests and safety of British communities first.”
Piddington, near Bicester, is the site for one of three proposed new asylum camps on former military bases.
Camps at Crowborough in Sussex and Wethersfield in Essex have already opened as Labour seeks to decant thousands of migrants from hotels, and find accommodation for the 17,000 Channel migrants who have arrived so far this year.
Migrants in military bases and hotels are currently allowed to roam freely around surrounding villages and towns.

We don’t know how the residents of Piddington voted at the last election. But we do know that (according to Grok) the village is in the Launton and Otmoor ward, which in the May 2026 Cherwell District Council election returned a Liberal Democrat councillor with 1,244 votes (to Reform’s 874 and the Conservatives’ 692). In the 2024 General Election, its Bicester and Woodstock constituency elected Liberal Democrat Calum Miller on 38.7%. The LibDems, who blame Brexit for the small boats crisis (even though illegal immigration is a Europe-wide problem), want to end all deterrent policies targeting small boat migrants while also giving asylum seekers the right to work and expanding “safe and legal” routes into the UK.

Not enough. It must be a fight back against mass immigration and fake asylum seakers. All these men must/will go back to their own countries and they can work to make them great. They are not our responsibility.
