Sir Keir Starmer is on the brink this morning as six Cabinet Ministers reportedly call on him privately to quit and the number of MPs on the record saying he must go reaches 84. The Telegraph has more.
Sir Keir Starmer has challenged Labour rebels to oust him.
The Prime Minister told a Cabinet meeting at 9.30am today that “the Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader and that has not been triggered”.
The Telegraph learnt before the meeting that six ministers – Shabana Mahmood, John Healey, Ed Miliband, Lisa Nandy, Yvette Cooper and Wes Streeting – had been expected to demand Sir Keir’s resignation.
However the Prime Minister did not give Ministers a chance to speak against him and instead set out his case on why he should remain in office.
He told Ministers: “The Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader and that has not been triggered. The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a Cabinet.”
He then spent the rest of the hour discussing policy issues and the impact of the Iran war.
Four Cabinet allies took the rare step of briefing journalists on camera after the meeting and insisted Sir Keir would stay on.
Miatta Fahnbulleh, a communities minister and an ally of Angela Rayner, earlier became the first frontbencher to quit and demanded that Sir Keir resign. …
A Labour Left-winger who ran against Sir Keir Starmer in the 2020 leadership contest has called on him to resign.
Rebecca Long-Bailey, who served under Jeremy Corbyn and was sacked from Sir Keir’s shadow cabinet in August 2020, demanded that the Prime Minister “end this chaos” and set out a timetable for an orderly leadership transition.
Long-Bailey, the 84th MP to call for the Prime Minister’s departure, said: “Many former Labour voters now feel our party is no longer on their side.”…
Cabinet sources said there was agreement among Shabana Mahmood, John Healey, Ed Miliband, Lisa Nandy, Yvette Cooper and Wes Streeting that Sir Keir should set out a timetable for his resignation.
However, the Cabinet Ministers disagreed about when the contest should be held, with Miliband and Nandy both pushing for a longer process that would allow Andy Burnham back to Westminster.
Healey is thought to be pushing for a faster election. A source familiar with his thinking said: “He was quite firm that Keir should set out a timetable and get a move on.”
Sir Keir is expected to fight the attempt to force him from office. A source said: “It’s a genuinely open question whether he goes.”
He will have support from a group of Cabinet loyalists, including Rachel Reeves, Bridget Phillipson, Pat McFadden and Nick Thomas-Symonds. They will argue that this is “not the time” for a leadership contest and point to the effect on the financial markets.

What is unforgiveable is that Starmer is using a seriously ill man with terminal cancer as a hostage to his fortune. It is a filthy trick.

He will not go without a fight. Remember how many times he had to change his stance on various issues until he came up with the right combination of views to win the election? His vision for the nation was basically one where he was PM. Of course, like all former PMs, both good and bad, he’ll do very nicely for himself out of speaking engagements, consultancy roles, honorary appointments and the like.
Don’t forget the uniquely generous pension protected by his tailor made Act of Parliament!

It’s important to remember that he can’t resign. That would need him to make an irreversible decision, which he has never done. The main reason, though, is that he has never actually been the prime minister, he is only the clay figurehead put in place by the legal cabal that are the true controllers of the country. The internationalists of which Hermer is the only one we know of, but undoubtedly a member of a form of star chamber and we can hazard a reasonable guess at the others. That’s why they are not interested in the working man and the unions. They also know if they lose their hand puppet there’s a chance of someone digging and exposing the whole thing.
Have just read the resignation letter from Jess Phillips. Whatever one thinks of her, it is a Zinger. Ouch! Burn baby burn…..

I wonder what percentage are ecomentalists and how many are “something else”?
Ideal scenario: bitter infighting breaks out in the Labour Party, the party fragmenting into small, mutually hostile, uncompromising groups, making the party unelectable. Reform wins absolute majority.
For all this there is still no challenge to his leadership even though much excitement has been generated by Burnham – the Far Left Messiah of The North – being seen arriving at Euston station. He is tin-eared enough to believe he should stay and try to turn his record breaking unpopularity around.
Sadly, this might be the least worse option given there are no decent candidates for the leadership that I know of. Ranting Rayner is a tax cheat and electoral fraudster with no experience of the private sector. Streeting has in the past celebrated the idea of a Daily Mail journalist Jan Moir falling in front of a train and then apologised for saying it but not still thinking it. Mad Ed we know would be an utter disaster. Burnham is not an MP, and if they trigger a leadership challenge – with Starmer the first name on the list – he is not eligible. He is also an economic moron who would spook the bond markets immediately having said they are to be ignored. Even if he could trigger a byelection where is there a safe seat for Labour?
Plus things are bad enough at the moment, why install another clown who seems to be permanently on the brink of bursting into tears!
Only one thing more incompetent and clueless and disconnected than Starmer – the Labour Party.

Oh I love it. While they are mythering they will do less damage to the country but more to the Labour Party. How can members and supporters tolerate this.
now we have two old parties out of favourite the voters: the Tories are hated while Labour is held in contempt.
And both of these parties have a left and right faction. In labour both factions are at war with each other and it is likely to get a lot worse if Starmer digs his heels in. In the Tories the left woke faction is frightening away a lot of previous supporters, like me, who don’t trust them to let a half decent leader to get on with any half decent policies.
It really is quite extraordinary that a man can be quite so tone-deaf, shameless, selfish and as deeply, deeply stupid as 2TK — all simultaneously. How he thinks it can be in the country’s interests for him to carry on as Prime Minister (not even a Lame Duck, more a legless duck) is beyond reasonable belief. Mind you, when one considers that one of the discussed alternatives is “No Brainer — the Ginger Growler”, one can shudder at the potential embarrasment one would then suffer as a British citizen having such an utter moron as one’s PM, representing our nation on the World Stage. Overall, one has to endorse Farage’s remark that 2TK is Reform UK’s best recruiting sergeant. So, let’s hope he stays in Number Ten a wee while longer ………………
I hope he stays until the next GE and I hope they do the full term. Lots of people voted for him/them and lots more failed to vote against him by voting for other Uniparty parties. They should all have to endure the full monty and then have the results in mind when they next go to vote. If anyone believed that the promised wonderful things would happen, they are delusional – but beyond that, Starmer and Labour have pretty much done what people voted for them to do – increase taxes and spending, carry on with globalism, EUism, suppression of freedom of speech, immigration etc etc.
..and one might hope that those people are regretting it… hahaha
