Trump Calls for Regime Change in Iran as He Snubs Starmer’s Calls for ‘De-Escalation’

by Will Jones
23 June 2025 11:42 AM

President Trump has called for regime change in Iran as he snubs Sir Keir Starmer’s calls for “de-escalation”, amid Starmer’s refusal to say whether he supports the strikes and questions over whether he has been sidelined by the US. The Mail has more.

Keir Starmer is engaged in frantic diplomacy over the Iran crisis today as Donald Trump sounds an increasingly strident message.

The PM and President spoke last night after the US strikes on Tehran’s nuclear sites. But Downing Street’s readout notably did not include any reference to the “de-escalation” Sir Keir has been urging in other statements.

Instead No. 10 said the leaders agreed Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and should return to negotiations.

Soon after the call Mr Trump took to social media apparently endorsing regime change – swiping that it could be time to “Make Iran Great Again”.

The stance raises fresh questions about Sir Keir’s influence and the health of the Special Relationship. After meeting Mr Trump in person at the G7 in Canada last week, the premier had insisted he did not believe the US would go ahead with the attacks.

America did not ask to use the Diego Garcia base for the bombing raid, amid speculation that Attorney General Lord Hermer had advised UK participation would be illegal.

Ministers again refused to say explicitly this morning whether Britain supported the action taken by the US.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy repeatedly dodged on whether the bombing was the “right thing to do”.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin has today vowed to back Iran and condemned the US’s “groundless” aggression against its ally.

“This is an absolutely unprovoked aggression against Iran,” Putin told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who travelled to Moscow seeking support in mediation.

Putin called recent strikes “unjustified” and added that Russia was “making efforts to provide assistance to the Iranian people”.

Worth reading in full.

Doesn’t it depend what they mean by “de-escelation”? Could it be that they are both compatible, or it may be that regime reorganisation is inevitably necessary to achieve progress.

I would agree with this;

”Something that needs to be made abundantly clear.. IF there is an Islamist terrorist attack in Europe or the United States carried out by the Iranian regime’s proxies, the fault lies solely with Western leadership and its supporters who have allowed uncontrolled levels of migration from outside of Europe to persist for years.

It is the direct result of weak governance, overt liberal ideology, and a crippling fear of being labelled “racist” or, more specifically, accused of being ‘something-phobic’. That fear has overridden common sense, compromised public safety, and allowed hostile actors to exploit open borders.

Those who are sitting there, grinning while patiently waiting to say “we told you so”, believing they will have proven some sort of point when a potential attack is revealed to be a consequence of the United States-led strike on Iran, need to understand this: the blood will be on your hands. Your distorted logic cannot twist reality to place you on any moral high ground. You are complicit.

No amount of whataboutism or cries of “we’re for peace, not war” will change that. You were never for peace. You abandoned peace the moment you chose to appease terrorist regimes and recognise a state that has never existed.”

Is the attached photograph not a stunningly beautiful portrait of a mother’s love to her child? (See https://original.antiwar.com/sahimi/2025/06/17/putting-a-human-face-on-the-innocent-victims-of-israels-unprovoked-war-against-iran/.)

The mother’s name is Maryam Minaei, and she was one of many completely innocent citizens killed by Israel’s strike on Iran on 13th June 2025, one of so many completely innocent citizens killed by Israel’s murderous regime, waging war over so many years on any country daring to question Israeli supremacy.

According to Scott Ritter’s report (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P7F2YARMaY), Sunday’s attack by USA on Iran was also a total failure – a war crime and a failure.

Tell me, did you make a similar post after the Hamas attack on Israel? If not, then stay silent rather than broadcast your hypocrisy.

The Bibas family, where the mother and two baby boys were murdered literally at the hands of a jihadist psychopath whilst held hostage springs to mind. But the examples are endless given that the enemies of Israel always target civilian areas;

”An Iranian ballistic missile impact on a building in the central city of Bat Yam overnight killed four people, including two children, and wounded nearly 100 others, Magen David Adom says.

Another missile impact in Rehovot wounded 37, MDA says.

Among the wounded, six are listed in serious condition.”

https://x.com/manniefabian/status/1934084139591880997

”The four victims of the missile impact earlier tonight on a building in the city of Tamra in the north are all women from the same Christian family, according to Hebrew media reports.

The women are named Manar Khatib, her two daughters, Hala, 20, and Shada, 13, and another relative, also named Manar.

We are holding their loved ones in prayer. The regime in Iran doesn’t care who it murders: Jewish, Christian, or Muslim.

We stand with Israel.”

No, I was actually travelling at the time and unaware of the Hamas attack until I returned home some time later.

What do you mean by my hypocrisy? On 7th October 2023, Hamas killed around 600 Israelis, while Israel killed another 600, firing its tanks and Apache helicopters indiscriminately at anyone in a car and all the people trying to escape from Hamas.

That was 20 months ago. In those 20 months, Israel has not stopped killing Palestinians, all day, every day, with the exception of one short cease-fire. To add to their thirst for destruction, they bombed Lebanon repeatedly all over the country, bombed and invaded Syria (destroying every weapon the Syrian army ever had), convinced Trump to bomb Yemen and now Iran. Have I missed a country?

And all those bombs kill hundreds or thousands of people like Maryam, because every bomb is an indiscriminate killing machine, only requiring a push of a button. But Israelis do not draw back from direct killing too: you will have heard of all the doctors voluntarily helping in Gaza, reporting on how many children they have to operate on each day with sniper gunshot wounds to their heads or stomachs. Sniper shots, requiring a telescopic sight and a steady hand. Children.

And today Israel continues to kill Palestinians trying to procure any sort of food, having destroyed Gaza hospitals, water and sewage systems, and preventing hundreds of lorries waiting to deliver humanitarian aid from entering Gaza.

Near-daily Israeli massacres at food distribution sites have killed over 400 Palestinians in the past month alone. Survivors describe stepping over corpses to get their hands on a bag of flour: ‘What choice do we have?’

According to UNICEF data, 16,736 children were admitted for treatment for malnutrition in Gaza between January and May 2025. Of these, 5,119 were admitted in May alone – nearly 50 percent more than in April.

The number of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition has surged 146 percent since February.

“The food, water, and nutrition treatments they desperately need are being blocked from reaching them. Man-made decisions that are costing lives. Israel must urgently allow the large-scale delivery of life-saving aid through all border crossings,” Beigbeder said.

And this all leaves you and my many down-tickers cold? You accuse me of hypocrisy and all the time people are being destroyed by Israel in Israel, for now more than 20 months, and you do not care? Is 7th October supposed to mean more than the more than 600 days since? 600 days of non-stop killing?

There is a serious problem with humanity at the moment and its single cause is Israel and its lackey of a US President, who at any time may start dropping atomic bombs all over the place.

Before 7th October I was on the Palestinian’s side. Was even buying their olive oil to support their cause…

I might consider feeling something again after they release the last hostages, if the bombing continues. Until then I have absolute zero sympathy.

Spot on! Well done for reminding everyone about the Israeli hostages still being held captive nearly a whole year later by the Palestinian Terrorists, who are acting like some Satanic Mexican Drug Cartel.

Is it Ransom Money they’re after now?

And how many Palestinians has the IDF killed? And I don’t mean in the last 20 months.
Not that it would bother you and similar, I mean they’re just brown wops to most on here it seems.
Just do some research and consider how much Israeli propaganda you’ve swallowed, like many on here.

I agree with this public comment below a brilliant video by Leo Kearse:

“I don’t like either side, support either side, or understand why anyone in the western world is picking a side. These aren’t my people, this isn’t my history, this isn’t my fight.”

And why have the Israeli hostages not been released? Because Israel has no interest in having them released! Good heavens, a simple phone call, an exchange of prisoners and there they all are. This is exactly what was being negotiated by Witkoff with Hamas until Netanyahu said “Stop!” because Netanyahu is not in the slightest interested in having the hostages released. What would happen if that were the case? There would be no need for further military action in Gaza, something Netanyahu certainly does not want.

Yesterday’s update to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics shows there are currently 18,700 “Detainees”, i.e. Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli jails renowned for their brutality and daily tortures. You can look up any number of YouTube videos showing the state of released prisoners, telling their stories of their daily tortures and suffering.

You will also be aware of the strange incident some months ago when nine Israeli prison guards were arrested for publicly filming rape and sodomy against Palestinian prisoners. Just imagine that: Israeli prison guards arrested for mistreating prisoners. How did that happen?

Well, what happened then? There was a public uprising, the Israeli guards were freed and Israel’s chief Rabbi subsequently declared it was not immoral to rape Palestinians. And these are the people you support.

So now compare the number of Israeli hostages with the number of imprisoned Palestinians and say what the difference is, bearing in mind nobody bothers very much whether the Palestinians are ever charged with any criminal offence.

Sorry, I have absolutely no comprehension for how anyone can defend any of Israel’s obscenely murderous actions the past 20 months.

If you wish to criticize demonstrators protesting against a genocide, then fine. And at least the video shows the huge, barbed-wire wall separating Gaza from Egypt. But I would maintain the wall is, firstly, ordered by the US masters of the Egyptian military junta (the Egyptian regime is totally dependent on US funding) and, secondly, to prevent another million or so Palestinian refugees from further depleting the state’s resources. It is called ‘border control’, something we used to enjoy in UK.

The claim that Palestinians violently fighting for that dreadful religion of theirs and thereby posing a threat to Israel and the rest of the world is just your typical Israeli propaganda rearing its ugly head again. Your Leo Kearse does not even consider the fact that Palestinians would never have been in Lebanon in the first place had it not been for their ejection from their own country by Israel. Yes, once again, Israel is at the centre of all evil in the Middle East. Here is a European portrayal of the events in Lebanon.

But if you regard the murdering and starvation of people in Israel to be of no interest to you, then why do you bother commenting on the matter?

Pakistani Christian Man, Pregnant Wife Burnt Alive in Kiln Case: Main Suspect Granted Bail by Court | World

Pakistani Christians Burned Alive Were Attacked by 1,200 People: Kin

” Sajjad Maseeh, 27, and his wife Shama Bibi, 24, were set upon by at least 1,200 people after rumors circulated that they had burned verses from the Quran, family spokesman Javed Maseeh told NBC News via telephone late Thursday. Their legs were also broken so they couldn’t run away.”

“They picked them up by their arms and legs and held them over the brick furnace until their clothes caught fire,” he said. “And then they threw them inside the furnace.”

Bibi, a mother of four who was four months pregnant, was wearing an outfit that initially didn’t burn, according to Javed Maseeh. The mob removed her from over the kiln and wrapped her up in cotton to make sure the garments would be set alight.”

“Sajjad Maseeh, who was also known by his nickname “Shahbaz,” was just seven years old when he started working at the factory. His family was tied to it through an arrangement of bonded labor whereby cross-generational debts were paid back through toil.”

“Sajjad Maseeh was born in the building where he was brutally murdered, according to his cousin.”

Leo Kearse gives a brilliant summary of why the Egyptians have built a massive double wall to keep the Palestinians out of Egypt, and why none of the Muslim countries around Gaza want any Palestinians in their countries.

Negotiations work between two or more parties that share similar worldviews. But if one of the parties marches to the beat of a different drum (either political or theocratic ideology, or a mix of both) then the negotiations will eventually fail.

Since Iran seems hell bent on ignoring previous negotiations then another round of negotiations is unlikely to produce anything meaningful. Starmer’s calls for de-escalation are pitiful, even if the are well intended.

Another good post from Caitlin Johnstone:

Top Ten dumbest things we’re being asked to believe about Iran:

1. That the Iranians want to be bombed
2. That the guy bombing Iran wants peace
3. That regime change interventionism is a swell idea this time
4. That anyone who doesn’t want war with Iran hates Jews
5. That this time the government and the media are telling us the truth about an American war
6. That this time the neocons are smart and correct
7. That bombing Iran makes it LESS likely to try to obtain nukes
8. That Iran is trying to assassinate the US president when all US presidents have the same foreign policy
9. That Iran (a country that never starts wars) cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons, but Israel (a country that starts wars constantly) can
10. That attacking Iran benefits Americans

And just for good measure, Google how many countries has USA bombed/tried to subvert and “democratise” since WW2.
Then Google how many countries has Iran invaded/bombed.

Why is Starmer such a hand wringing wimp? His attitude is to put his hands over his eyes and cry like a little child afraid of the dark. —-“Please make it all go away mummy”

Starmer has been sidelined. Even President Trump can see the blatant destruction of a civilised country, the UK, by its own government.
