In what must count as one of the most bizarre acts of the current UK Government, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband has flown to China to talk about climate change. ‘UK and China restart meaningful climate change dialogue,’ announces a press release on the DESNZ website. “The global battle against the climate crisis needs China,” said the man himself in a Guardian article. “Climate action at home without pushing larger countries to do their fair share would not protect current and future generations.” Miliband, the climate hero, believes that he can convince the Chinese to follow in his footsteps. And that is not even the most absurd thing about this expedition.
Ed Miliband’s promise to the UK population is that his implementation of the Net Zero agenda will produce ‘lower bills’, guarantee ‘energy security’ and create ‘green jobs’. The centrepiece of the agenda is the ‘clean power by 2030’ policy. This will create “a future where our energy system is reliant on homegrown clean power, not fossil fuel markets controlled by dictators”, he claims. This is in contrast to “the previous Government”, which he states “left us dependent on fossil fuel markets controlled by dictators around the world, which made us price-takers, not price-makers”. In response to a challenge from Reform, Miliband claimed that the upstarts’ policies would leave the UK “colder, poorer, in the pocket of dictators”. “Its not taking back control, its energy surrender,” he concluded. Long before the election, he said that “Labour will pass an Energy Independence Act”, which “will break Britain’s dependency on fossil fuel dictators”.

Ed Milliband is enacting economic energy self harm to our country. It beggars belief that so many people are in denial and cannot see the poverty that lies ahead of us by refusing to use our own gas and oil.
Until somebody with a big profile actually starts asking “WHY?” instead of looking at ways to minimise the effect of “HOW?” we’ll get nowhere.
Exactly – enter stage left, Reform!… errr, Reform…. are you there?
‘You have reached the Messiah. I am sorry but he can’t take your call right now as he is busy preening himself at some pointless publicity stunt as a means of avoiding having to come up with policies based on data, facts and detail. Your call is important to us and perhaps you would like to become a subscriber to Nigel Farage Limited.’
Very good – it does feel a bit like that doesn’t it. I always think to myself when on hold and those ‘your call is important to us’ messages come on… ‘well clearly not that ******* important or you’d hire more call handlers!’
Its second only to my hatred of HMRC calling taxpayers ‘customers’ – as if we had a choice NOT to use their services
They are also bamboozling the public, deliberately creating confusion about what it’s all for.
Is it to save “the planet” from catastrophic climate change caused by too much CO2?
But they keep saying “clean energy”. CO2 isn’t dirty.
They are deliberately conflating pollution and climate change because that is how these morons have justified this madness to themselves.
They don’t really know if the climate change story is true, but they think, well let’s do Net Zero anyway because even it the climate story is rubbish it will give us cleaner air. So it’s good either way.
It’s hideous.
The truth is that adapting to any changes that occur – and given their record on correct predictions is zero – is a much cheaper option than pissing away $trillions on useless ideas like windmills, sun temples, CO2 capture, hydrogen production, lithium batteries etc.
And test & trace!
It is treason.
Ed is enacting Communism where the majority cannot afford energy and water costs and the chosen few live in gated compounds with everything.
Not sure Ed is going to find it so easy with Trump and Putin retaking the global stage.
Xi presents Ed with a dinner mat.
Not ‘The’ Xi though is it – surely not even the worst Chinese civil servant would be brave enough to waste their leaders time on Millibrain… (and live to tell the tale)
Xi makes Ed his doormat.
Edward Samuel Miliband, arch energy-traitor extraordinaire, gives the carbon-footprint a boost by jetting east to engage with the climate-enemy…
…In among all the usual word green-saladry, the real-world readout that matters is Britain’s unit price of domestic and industrial electricity – around five times higher than China’s and climbing.
Cue the other day’s learned Sceptic article by David Turver, shining the light of truth on the Green Devil that lurks in all the subsidy details.
Go on energy-punk, make David’s day and bring us that 300 quid fall in electricity bills the Party Manifesto lied about.
Malfeasance in Office barely scratches the surface.
Probably got them to sign an agreement that binds them to only building 5 new coal fired power stations a year instead of 6 !
There will certainly be nothing of consequence in anything signed – the Chinese are playing things pretty smart, and have a 50+ year plan they are executing. It’s very convenient for them almost all western politicians are so nicely aligned…
More like one every 10 days.
And not like those in the UK which we have blown down, giggling.
New Chinese plants are of the very latest Super Ultra Critical design ( far more efficient than our most modern -1980s – design plants so carefully destroyed).
I really don’t rate any politician of any stripe but how do Labour have such a dearth of talent? Lib Dems, Greens and Cons are about on a par for stupidity but Labour really take the biscuit. Starting from the top, 2TK and all the cabinet ministers seem to vie for the largest collection of misfits and useless dimwits.
Put simply – none of them have any real world business experience and these days that includes the Tories since they have moved to the left. A comical ditsy blonde ex-Labour MP that appears on GB News was calling for more MPs to have a real background such as nurses, teachers and other taxpayer funded workers with no sense of irony.
George Soros and Bill Gates both think they are excellent and fund them accordingly.
In Miliband’s case, “net zero” refers to his IQ
Net-zero common sense. The Devil wears A-levels that include Maths and Physics, and a PPE degree from South Midland Arts College. Education, Education, Education.
Brings to mind A Fish Called Wanda – calling him stupid would be an insult to stupid people.
Miliband is the biggest blithering idiot ever in British Politics. Him and people like him on this phony pretend to save the planet crusade have no concern for the misery they are causing to their own citizens where they are attempting to follow to the letter everything that emanates from the UN’s Sustainable Development Agenda that wants to lower the standard of living of the western world because our lifestyles are “Unsustainable”. In other words, we have too much of everything, and the Milibands of this world want to take it all away. They want to take away our reliable affordable energy that has brought us the prosperity we now have. They instead want to fob us ff with silly heat pumps that won’t heat the water properly, solar panels and wind turbines to give us some part time electricity all at astronomical expense. They want us out of our cars, and out of aeroplanes. They want to stop us eating meat and dairy. Basically they want control over every aspect of our lives all under the false pretences of a “climate emergency”. Meanwhile China and India and all the other developing countries continue to use the cheapest way to generate electricity —COAL to bring their people out of abject poverty. The idea that this blithering idiot whose silly Net Zero nonsense is failing because it is a jumble of eco socialist fantasy politics will convince the developing world to stop developing because Miliband says so is so incredibly funny.— Or it would be funny if it were not so PATHETIC.
Miliband does and says exactly what he is paid to do and say by his WEF bosses.
And I’m sure he’ll be rewarded for his good works way before he gets to meet his maker
Are yesterday’s articles out of reach from comment?
Someone commented that he/she’s happy with reducing coal consumption, but only wants economically run renewables.
There’s your problem. That’s what’s happening! And we don’t have any, economically run renewables. So, the poor, at least, will be huddling around a heat pump, with no electricity around.
Fun isn’t it! Well no, and it’s frustrating for those that understand this.
Many educated and experienced professionals have looked into this problem and found that there’s plenty of Coal and Gas to give us the breathing space to develop Nuclear. Yes, we could build with current designs but, if we are going to need hundreds, it would be better to improve the design of reactors with, for example. passive safety features, rather than active, as we will have so many. And we have spent much of the last fifty years adding features instead of creating a unified design: think of an historic mansion, where every other generation added an extra wing. Then look at Blenheim, dozens of them.
So, instead of restricting the solution, before even defining the problem, how about understanding the problem before defining it. We’ve had getting on twenty years to do that. A’ level Physics and Chemistry are all you need to start the process.
We do have to make sure we are all defining ‘economically run renewables’ the same way though. My definition, and I would suspect the one many think is meant, is that they generate a profit, and therefore stand on their own feet with NO subsidies required by taxpayers.
my concern would be, a politician may have a different definition, especially if they were a religious nut about net zero, and they considered them ‘economically run’ if they only needed 20% taxpayer cash injection to run on a continuous basis.
As ever – it’s not specific or clear enough in the words. Usually, this is for a reason I’ve learnt, hence the scepticism…
I wonder if it’s my post you had in mind? Just to clarify what I was trying, but apparently failing to say… Yes, phase out our use of coal and other fossil fuels IF AND ONLY IF the alternative is equivalent or better in terms of cost, safety and reliability. Until those criteria are met, we should continue with our coal, oil and gas, of which whe have plenty within our territory.
Whatever fuels or energy sources we use, the fact is that it will have a negligible effect on the climate, but the economic and social ramifications of any changes forced upon us are massive.
No electricity, no working heat pump.
This man is seriously deranged if he believes he has any effect on China other than producing mild amusement.
China is clearly bent on peaceful world domination through its belt and road initiatives and its capture of world markets in energy related products (cars, solar panels and windmills), and is arming itself in part to protect itself against an aggressive American stance and threats to help maintain the independence of Taiwan (which they themselves, along with the UN aclnowledge is Chinese territory).’
China has also shown that it is capable of wreaking disaster on the world through biological means, although it appears that American investment,in their research in Chinese labs, is in at least part to blame.
However, in the UK, it is Ed who is to blame for the threat to our nfuture.
Agreed – I’d love to have been a (Chinese understanding) fly on the wall of their debrief sessions…
Starmer went to China, Then Reeves went to China, Now Milliband. China is a Communist country, it represses and puts its people under constant watch through the social credit system, it censors, it has built up a massive military force, and it threatens Taiwan.
Yet this Party which now runs the Country goes back and forth to China like a snitch reporting to teacher. Make no mistake Keir Starmers party is Marxist, it has more in common with China than America. Since Starmer came in we have seen mass censorship, those who dared speak out about the Government were jailed and still are, Tommy Robinson who was imprisoned on a civil crime, is being held in a high security prison, in solitary confinement for 22 hours a day, he is not allowed a visit from anyone who has a social media presence. Think about that last one, everyone who blogs on this site has a social media presence, facebook users too. He is a political prisoner.
They are introducing euthanasia for those considered useless to society, they are reducing us through taxation, to removal of privately held farms, so that they can control us through money and food, just as the Russians did. They are getting rid of history through brainwashing and rewriting of facts. This is what China did under Mao and Russia under Lenin and then Stalin.
Trump jokes about Canada being the 51st state, the reality is Labour are making the UK the outpost of China.
You’re so right and I cannot see anything stopping them completing their aim to turn us into a fully-fledged totalitarian state.
So right, especially: like a snitch reporting to teacher.
…. on so many levels, and not even just ‘like’.
Make no mistake Keir Starmers party is Marxist
Spot on.
The main thing all these politicians forget is that the mindset of the Chinese, and indeed most orientals is different from ours. They don’t see things as black and white, right and wrong, it’s always shades of grey, and nuances of what we might consider the truth, or a solid agreement.
So the Chinese will agree with Ed but still follow their own timetable to achieve that end ‘if’ it fits with their long term goals.
Rubbish.
Check the procession of Labour Marxists who’ve visited China since the election, and this took precedence over every other G7 power.
Starmer, Lammy within a fortnight or so. Reeves, now Miliband.
Then, ask yourself who is the primary beneficiary of everything Labour has done since it grabbed power.
Chinese jobs, manufacturing, a mega ‘Embassy’, and of course, Communism.
Milibands visit is to pay obeisance, receive orders, check in with the CCP.
It’s true a lot of Green Jobs have been created. But they aren’t here, they’ve been created in China!
I suspect the inscrutable Chinese Officials had special extra training in being inscrutable before Red Ed turned up to “engage with them.”
Gotta keep the smirks under control until he’s left.
They’ll have stroked his ego plenty I’m sure…
I suspect they picked a few juniors out of the ranks to pretend to be the important people Siliband thinks he is meeting – hard to tell the difference.
Some time ago Lombard Odier had a full page advert in the FT. Here is the opening paragraph:
“The CO2 tap is being turned off. Fast.
Net zero is not up for debate. It’s transition or extinction.”
On page 8 of the same paper is:
“China demands coal mines boost output.”
“China has ordered coal mines to boost production as President Xi Jingping races to combat an energy crisis threatening to slow the world’s second biggest economy and force his administration to backtrack on climate change promises”
In spite of what appears to be ‘unprecedented’ high levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, as determined by those that think it is an issue, this summer has been one of the coolest with early snow in Austria and minus temperatures in Finland.
The burning of coal and oil are the two most important drivers of improved living standards across the planet, irrespective of race or religion.
To recap:
The UK has a population of 67 million and 39 million middle class, powered by :
0 coal fired power stations
32 gas fired power stations
8 nuclear power stations
..and wind and solar.
+ 16% of power from France, Holland and Belgium
China has a population is 1,400 million (1.4 billion) and >700 million middle class (and growing), powered by:
1082 coal fired power stations (200+ planned),
50 nuclear power stations
and a lot of hydro and some renewables.
The Lombard Odier advert ended with:
“It is net zero everything. Or nothing.
The is the irrefutable truth.
The irrefutable truth is worth investing in.”
I do hope that it is self evident that the hyperbollocks claims of Lombard Odier were deliberately emotive and a blatant demand for money. “irrefutable truth”? “It’s transition or extinction”? FFS
Great – when was that published, recently? The 67m figure we all expect is bollox as well – somewhere between 80-100m seems more likely, based on grocer data amongst other things
How Miliband, the temporary holder of a bogus portfolio, can justify a Chinese junket-trip at enormous expenses to the British taxpayer is beyond the pale. Not to mention the hypocrisy, so called “carbon” wise.
The Chinese will suck him up and blow him out in bubbles.
“I have never understood why we need to be either on a friend or enemy footing with a country that is 5,000 miles away”. Unfortunately all communist regimes are instinctively hostile to the non-communist world. Marx believed in World Government, and so do they. The CCP has put a lot of money and effort into buying political influence all round the world. The demands for “reparations” from governments in the West Indies are at least partly the result of CCP influence. We can only guess how much influence the CCP has over the Labour Party.
He blames the previous government for relying on fossil fuels from dictators around the world. While the previous government were completely useless and started this mess, it was millipede who banned the further exploitation of North Sea oil – owned by the British (unless they are the dictators he is referring to – and based on recent behavior I think he’s right), but then goes to China, that bastion of freedom, democracy, free speech and human rights, to beg for more solar panels to build over our farmland. The guy is seriously stupid.
No, his dad was a Marxist.
The Chinese will, no doubt, have been polite to Milibrain but that’s about it. The Chinese have other priorities and they don’t include climate.
Mike Graham wipes the floor (and behind the toilet) with Stanley Johnson over Net Zero (Agenda 2030 sustainable development goals).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB-B6ewlUyQ
They could not have done this over Zoom? What a hypocrite.
Sorry, it did make me laugh. But then I thought about how dangerous this is to us and our economy, and I stopped again very quickly.
it recommended that the solution was more and closer dependence on China.
Insanity. I need to find a prepper group, and get ready for third world status!
Are you sure Milliband’s not just a Chinese asset? There increasingly seems to be no other explanation.
“a fool and his money are soon parted”
Or.
“a fool and OUR money are soon parted”
Dear President Xi, can you find a reason to rescind Mr Miliband’s exit visa and send him to one of the Gulags you don’t have for the rest of eternity. Thanks, The British People.
Difficult to understand why any social media site would waste a line of editorial on such an incompetent person, when there are THOUSANDS of outstanding people in our world to write about.
