Keir Starmer’s “Net Zero leadership” at COP29 apparently involves 470 delegates racking up 2.3 million air miles, spending millions of taxpayer cash and leaving a hefty carbon footprint from a 5,000-mile round trip. The Mail has more.
The staggering environmental and financial cost comes despite the summit being deemed “no longer fit for purpose”, with leaders of some of the biggest polluting countries, including U.S. President Joe Biden and China’s President Xi, shunning talks.
The British delegation is bigger than that sent by the U.S. and other major European countries including France, Germany and Italy, according to official figures.
Sir Keir has declared that he wants the U.K. to have a “global leadership” role in fighting climate change and used this year’s COP in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, to unveil yet another hugely ambitious green target.
But the Prime Minister’s pledge to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 81% by 2035 triggered warnings that people will have to cut back on meat or replace their gas boilers to meet the target.
Official figures obtained by this newspaper reveal the U.K. registered 470 delegates. This compared with the 405 from the US, 111 from India, 437 from Italy 325 from Germany and 115 from France, whose President Emmanuel Macron also spurned the talks.
With Baku almost 2,500 miles from London, the British delegation is estimated to have collectively racked up 2.3 million air miles for return trips. Each return flight pumps out at least 0.7 tons of CO2 per passenger, making the delegation’s flights’ total carbon footprint at least 338 tons of CO2.
The U.K.’s delegation included 354 Government officials or ministers. The remaining 116 included representatives from Crown dependencies and British overseas territories, business figures, policy experts and journalists.

Let’s face it, this has f all to do with climate. They mostly want to preen themselves and pretend they are saving the world with their fakery. (See previous articles about increasing ice at the South Pole, increased penguin numbers, increased coral in the GBR, increased polar bears and no countries drowning from increasing sea levels. Of course, they’ve mostly buggered up their luxury holiday, because the weather in Baku is rubbish at the moment and the official tourist site actually recommends avoiding the city in November.

And they were each a step down from the Holocene Climate Optimum. There have been attempts by the crazies to make out the Holocene Climate Optimum was not as warm as now, but they would try that, after all geology, science and maths are racist and riven with White Supremacy.
There has to be something perverse about a bunch of climate alarmist zealots flying half way round the world to discuss man’s influence on the climate and what to do about it but at the same time quite happy to use the type of transportation they are so vehemently opposed to – air travel. Why don’t they insist on all travel to and from the conference being fossil fuel free? The exercise might do them good. I bet there wouldn’t be so many people willing to attend this junket fest if that were the case. The hypocrisy is off the scale.
No point leading the world in deindustrialisation unless you get the chance to crow about it at an international conference. Goodness knows, there are no other measurable effects, beyond the wrecking of your own economy.
If that’s their objective, which is plain to see, why are they so reluctant to give up all the benefits of industrialisation and lead by example? There is nothing worse than being lectured by a bunch of do-gooders with one brain cell between the lot of them.
Not my stupid target and I will do nothing voluntarily to help meet them, indeed I will resist tooth and nail, as we all should.

With all this idea of ‘global leadership’ you have to wonder is it all a cover for having a small penis.
Plus thousands of journalists from all over the world and thousands of environmental activists, all of whom are quite happy to each emit tons of carbon dioxide so they can try to persuade us to emit less carbon dioxide.
We have 470. The USA has 0, China has 0, India has 0. —–WTF is going on here? We have the highest electricity prices in the entire world is what is going on.—–Our own government (Labour and Tory) are deliberately lowering our standard of living and we are supposed to be so happy about that. Miliband and Starmer were over at COP29 trying to give away billions of our hard-earned cash and this is meant to give us a nice warm glow inside Maybe that warm glow can help keep pensioners warm as I notice the temperature outside today is minus 1.
