Britain will ban new coal mines as part of Ed Miliband’s drive to hit Net Zero carbon emission, while China continues to power its economy – and make our wind turbines and solar panels – mainly with coal. The Telegraph has more.
The Government said it was bringing forward a decision to restrict new licences, ending an era of coal-fired power generation that at its peak supported more than one million jobs.
It follows the closure of the last U.K. coal power station in September, ending 142 years of coal-fired generation in the U.K.
Ratcliffe-on-Soar closed on September 30th following five decades of service that powered more than two million homes and produced enough electricity to make more than one billion cups of tea per day.
The Energy Secretary is pushing forward with plans to achieve clean power by 2030, with Britain the first major economy to stop burning coal for power.
Mr. Miliband’s decision to shun coal is in stark contrast to the previous Government, which gave the green light to the first new deep coal mine in 30 years. …
Michael Shanks, the Energy Minister, said the decision will help the U.K. to transition to a more “clean, secure energy system”.
He said: “Coal mining powered this country for over 140 years and we owe a huge debt to workers who kept the lights on for homes and businesses across the country.
“Now the U.K. is in prime position to lead the way in phasing out coal power around the world, which remains the single largest contributor to global emissions.”
Worth reading in full.
Hmm, leading the world. Let’s take a look at that.

I wonder what is the value of the coal nd gas beneith us and the oil around us which the political elites will not allow us to enjoy.
Also the value of the fish around us and the food on our fields which is being given away to the French or imported from them.
Estimated coal reserves beneath our feet – 400 years.
‘Reserves’ are calculated in a very reserved manner and actually are the minimum known retrievable assets. Quite possibly we have twice four hundred years supply.
Yes that is what we know. As with renewable oil and gas (abiotic) which were to run out every year starting in 1920, the more we explore, the more we find.
Coal is not made from dead trees and debris. Another idiocy of ‘the science’. There are endless reserves of this renewable material.
Coal does have, contained within it, fossils that do hint of trees being present.
However, the Oil and Gas (Methane) could easily have migrated, having first been generated from the Hydrogen and Carbon found within the Earth, some initially found in water and Carbonates being dragged into the Mantle.
Like all Geology, no-one was there to video it.
But Milliband says if we don’t stop burning stuff, the current ice age may not continue forever¹!
It’s well worth pondering this for a moment to let the sheer idiocy of this dire warning sink in.
¹ Practical consequences of this: The amount of habitable land on this planet would increase dramatically because presently, most of it is much too cold for that.
The French threatened to stop sending us Electricity over the Interconnect if we didn’t give them fishing licences.
It part of the special relationship we have with France.
Coal.
Gas.
Oil.
Wood?
To be replaced by wind and sunshine and imported electricity.
Sheer lunacy.
Viruses. Quackcines. Evolution. Relativity. We went to the moon….the world is full of lunacies posing as ‘the science’.
The problem with ‘the Science’ is that it is what current knowledge used to be, but the whole point of Science is that it is a mode of enquiry.
New discoveries are made, new conclusions drawn, and misapplications of theory never corrected, but the lack of Informed Discussion, which Freedom of Speech allows, means it never reaches those in charge of the operations, or those supposedly in overall charge of the money, the politicians.
You sit there shivering and miserable wondering what you have done to deserve this and yet you still vote for these prats. Although you didn’t given that these cretinous monsters got in with a fifth of the electorate endorsing them and most of those bloody votes were a protest against the previous parasitic rat-like regime. How about that then. You didn’t want any of them and you are stuck with the worst of all possible worlds who will leave you with nothing save your eyes to cry with.
Just like sadiq Khan 10 million population in London, 1 million voted for him, and he gets to rule the city forcing 15 minute cities, taking the car away, turning London into a violent, faeces covered Gotham.
I think the Khant benefitted from the anti-Tory sentiment at the time of the election as well as them fielding a lacklustre candidate. Had the election been held now I suspect it would be quite a different result as Labour has already instigated the downward spiral of the country. Next May will give us a good pointer.
Now the U.K. is in prime position to lead the way in phasing out coal power around the world, which remains the single largest contributor to global emissions.
In plain English, in prime position to lead the way means Nobody but us is planning to do that. And why would others necessarily imitate the a UK which is not their political leader anymore?
That’s what happens when you sell it down the river. Calvin Mackenzie, Max Clifford, The news bunny, lurid stories about Scousers. Tales from a Jamaican nightclub called the Rub a dub. Where couples were encouraged to dance until they were sexually excited. The Sunday supplement in The News of The World. As a child I remember thinking that this is a culture destroying itself. Really really selling its birthright for a mess of pottage. And now here you are. Don’t forget every little sleazy step of destruction that you either took part in or ignored. Don’t blame the blacks the chavs the single mothers and the invalids. You should’ve seen your culture being destroyed slowly by an enemy within the gates.
I reserve the right as a free- born English woman to ban Ed Milliband.
There must be a way to depose this dangerous fool?
Britain Bans Coal Mines for Poverty
All I want is a room somewhere
Far away from the cold night air
With one enormous chair
Oh, wouldn’t it be loverly?
Lots of chocolate for me to eat
Lots of coal makin’ lots of heat
Warm face, warm hands, warm feet
Oh, wouldn’t it be loverly?
” I have often been credibly told
That when people are awfully old
Though cigars are a curse
And strong waters are worse
There is nothing so fatal as cold”
Hilaire Belloc
“Now the U.K. is in prime position to lead the way in phasing out coal power around the world”
Xi Jinping has just announced a special convention of the National Peoples Congress to ratify his decision to shut down all 1,161 coal mines in China and abandon the planned construction of several hundred more in the next few years.
By way of explanation the Chinese President stated ‘I have been made aware of the UK Energy Minister comrade Michael Shanks’ noble and heroic act of leadership regarding the matter of coal mining. The People’s Republic of China has no option but to fall into line.”
Also asked in an interview earlier today about the UK’s new legislation Donald Trump stated “Michael is just this really, really great guy, probably the top guy in the entire world when it comes to energy. I guarantee that ever single coal mine in the US will have stopped operating within five minutes of my moving into the Oval Office in January”…
The /only/ glimmer of hope I have is that at least we have now gone full Ecotard, so the madness will fail more quickly than under the previous LibDem government.
How much the failing is going to cost us, God knows.
The sooner the likes of Mad Miliband and his cohorts are locked up and the key thrown away the better. They are evil, vindictive, spiteful fools period.
