My favourite semi-living author, Michel Houellebecq, has a new novel out! Called Annihilation, I have just reviewed it here; it describes a series of increasingly strange cyber-attacks upon the French State, perpetrated by mysterious individuals seemingly linked to occultism or Satanism.
Occultism? Satanism? Is this Michel Houellebecq or Stephen King? Most people think of Houellebecq as a political writer. But, appropriately enough as we approach Halloween, the tales he spins are a unique self-created form of political horror stories, even worse than the one currently playing itself out over here in the U.K. starring Count Keir Starmer. Back in July (see here and here), I explained how the best-selling novels of the professional French miserabilist were really disguised rewrites of the cosmic horror of the early U.S. Master of Weird Fiction H.P. Lovecraft (HPL), who fantasised about the human race being wiped out and replaced by peculiar-looking alien invaders.
