UNRWA Implicated in Hamas Terror Attacks Shortlisted for Nobel Peace Prize

by Will Jones
11 October 2024 1:02 PM

UNRWA – the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East – whose staff were suspected of assisting in the October 7th Hamas terror attacks on Israel, has been shortlisted for a Nobel Peace Prize. The Telegraph has the story.

UNRWA was shortlisted for the prestigious award in February despite Israeli claims that dozens of its workers took part in the attacks by distributing ammunition, abducting hostages and co-ordinating transportation.

The U.S. froze funding to the agency in January after the revelations emerged, while the UN ordered an independent inquiry.

Following UNRWA’s investigation, 12 staff members were fired. In a statement, the agency said: “The Israeli authorities have provided UNRWA with information about the alleged involvement of several UNRWA employees in the horrific attacks on Israel on October 7th.

“To protect the Agency’s ability to deliver humanitarian assistance, I have taken the decision to immediately terminate the contracts of these staff members and launch an investigation in order to establish the truth without delay. Any UNRWA employee who was involved in acts of terror will be held accountable, including through criminal prosecution.”

Ahead of the announcement of the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize, more than 10,000 people have signed a petition calling for organisers to reconsider its nomination.

“A Nobel Peace Prize to the agency and its commissioner-general Philippe Lazzarini would send a strong message about its role in supporting the lives of millions of Palestinian women, men, and children,” the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), which picked the nominations, wrote on its website.

PRIO noted that UNRWA had maintained its aid operation despite financial support being withdrawn after the accusations.

The ‘peace’ committee really does hate Israel that much that it shortlists an agency strongly implicated in murdering, torturing, raping and abducting hundreds of its citizens. And it doesn’t give a monkey’s how that looks to the rest of us. And they wonder how the Holocaust can happen.

Worth reading in full.

https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/vladimir-putin-does-not-want-a-peace-deal-he-wants-to-destroy-ukraine/

Today, everyone wants peace……except Putin. Time for Putin’s ‘admirers’ to admit that it is more than grotesque for an invader responsible for torture, kidnapping, murder, hundreds of thousands dead, millions displaced, to play the victim.

‘Putin claimed to be defending the rights of Russian-speaking Ukrainians…….the Russian army has since killed tens of thousands of predominantly Russian-speakers in eastern Ukraine, while reducing dozens of towns and cities across the region to rubble.

Putin has (withdrawn) the bulk of Russian troops from the Finnish border…..leaving it largely undefended…..safe to conclude that he does not in fact view the NATO alliance as a security threat to Russia itself, and has merely exploited the issue as a smokescreen for his own (demographic) imperial ambitions in Ukraine.’

On the other hand:

‘The Ukrainian government has shown both wisdom and a welcome seriousness of purpose by not outright rejecting the Trump plan……a willingness to engage with it while emphasizing the critical need for security…….a smart strategy

What Putin is demanding is for Ukraine to retreat as a precondition for talks, effectively giving Russia land it has been unable to conquer. Russia has failed to conquer this territory because of Ukraine’s successful resistance. This is not a serious offer but an arrogant demand for Ukraine’s surrender.

Recently, General Kellogg, in an interview, was asked about these Russian demands. His response was very telling. He said the Russians had better think twice. Essentially, he made it clear that if they believe they can intimidate or bully Donald Trump into accepting a maximal Russian position as a starting point, they are mistaken. I appreciated his response. It was tough and assertive, pushing back against Russian arrogance.

The United States has a strong track record of refusing to recognize territorial annexation by aggressors. The Stimson Doctrine from the 1930s rejected Japan’s occupation of Manchuria. The Welles Declaration firmly denied recognition of Soviet occupation of the Baltic states. In 2018, the Pompeo Declaration stated that the United States would not recognize Russia’s occupation of Crimea. These are strong precedents. Two of these examples were set by Republicans, and one by a Democrat, demonstrating bipartisan commitment to this principle.

Trump is going to push hard. If Russia remains too arrogant and refuses to work with Trump along the lines of his proposals, Trump may conclude that Russia is indeed the problem.’

Daniel Fried, former U.S. State Department Coordinator for Sanctions Policy

Crystal clear, plain as a pikestaff, Putin has no interest in peace…..

But peace is interested in him…..

The USA is only interested in furthering the USA. It has a strong track record in destabilising regimes it finds antipathetic and then walking away from the mess it creates.

We should all keep out of it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the West.

I would welcome Britain ploughing its own furrow. Your question has a built in assumprion that we should favour one, but I see them as equally bad.

Sorry, none of this is true. There is no way the Russian army has killed ‘tens of thousands of predominantly Russian-speakers in eastern Ukraine’: that was, as you well know, the Ukrainians and was the second main reason (after NATO expansion) for Russia’s Special Military Operation.

This video (warning, disturbing images) – https://odysee.com/@EvaKareneBartlett:9/sept-22-shelling:0 – is one of hundreds showing how Ukraine shelled cities, such as Donetsk, before the SMO managed to push the Ukrainians far enough back that their artillery was no longer in range.

It is also the case that Ukrainian forces, not Russian, enter civilian buildings, force any remaining residents into basements, and then use the buildings to attack Russians, knowing that Russians will be aware of the civilians being used as ‘human shields’. This happened all over Mariupol.

Disgustingly, Ukrainians now detonate high-rise residences to prevent Russians using them while the former retreat: such actions are shown on YouTube’s Military Summary channel.

There is no way that Russia is not aware that Finland joining NATO is a new threat requiring additional protection along a previously neutral border. The last I heard, Russia was introducing new military bases into the area. To maintain that Russia is pulling soldiers out of the area because Russia does not regard NATO as a threat is utterly ridiculous: who on Earth do you think Russia is really fighting in Ukraine?

And US politicians are good at threatening Russia and completely hopeless when it comes to diplomacy; after all, US Americans consider themselves to be the major world power and their desire is to maintain that position, even though modern events (funnily enough, encouraged by Biden’s failed policies) mean the world now has three super powers, not just one.

Trump may push hard but Russia has already shown it can stand up to all Western forces combined: US, NATO, UK and EU.

The only solution to this conflict is capitulation, and the sooner the better. And anyone who really cares for Ukraine and its people will support an immediate capitulation to end this idiocy for once and for all.

As I say, Putin has no interest in peace, only demographic imperialism.

Syria quite clearly demonstrates the ultimate destination of Putin’s leadership.

Peace, as Putin will shortly discover, is interested in him.

“Syrian refugees in Britain are vowing to return to their homeland after rebels seized control of Damascus, writes Charlotte Leeming for Sky News.”

It should not be a matter of choice. Any asylym or right to stay arrangements should be terminated now with departure required within three months.

“Dublin. An Irish man asks Syrians celebrating the fall of Assad if they will go home now that they are ‘free'”.

Guess what?

“Britain’s Syrian refugees vow to return home after fall of regime”

You know, of course, that this is never going to happen. Only a few might return, while the rest continue lolling about on welfare handouts in the West, and will soon be joined by millions more chancers from that entire region.

‘Hamid Mahmud, who returned to his country, said, “I came to Turkey from Syria in 2014. We came to Turkey when the war started. Our life was over. God willing, our homeland will be fine. Syria is getting back on its feet, but we will not start from scratch. We have doctors and engineers. That’s why we will be better. I am very happy to be back in my country. I don’t know the words to describe when the murderer Bashar Assad left. All Syrians waited for this moment for 14 years. I haven’t slept for a few hours. Because I am very excited. We as Syria are very happy.”
