Pro-Palestine protesters have targeted 20 Barclays across the U.K., smashing windows and throwing red paint over the bank branches in London, Bristol and Manchester. The Mail has the story.
Pictures show that all the windows of a branch in the centre of Bristol have been smashed and graffiti sprayed over them in the co-ordinated attack.
Posting on X, Palestine Action claimed to have “shut 20 Barclays branches” across England and Scotland with their antics.
The group said it took the action to “demand the bank divests from Israel’s weapons trade and fossil fuels”.
A spokesperson for Palestine Action said: “Barclays is funding the crises of climate collapse and genocide in Palestine.
“Decades of polite campaigning, petitions, letter writing and lobbying MPs have failed.
“We will continue to escalate until Barclays pulls its finger out and stops funding genocide and climate destruction.
In Bristol, the windows of the bank branch were smashed and red paint was doused over the property.
Meanwhile, in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, rocks inscribed with the names of Palestinians killed in the conflict were thrown at windows. …
Other branches targeted include Stockport and Bury in Greater Manchester, Preston in Lancashire, and St John’s Wood, Westminster and Croydon in London.

Rather a pity the Barclays spokesbod didn’t condemn the criminal actions of this group. Given that the Palestinian Action group has issued a statement it is clearly ‘organised’ and so should be treated as a criminal conspiracy.
The bankers will not, of course, unite to de-bank those who damage property in this way.

Have to admit I’ve been tempted to do this to my own branch of Barclays, after spending hours trying to get their wretched ‘app’ to work, still unsuccessfully. Then having to book a branch appointment two weeks ahead so the (largely clueless) staff could try to fix it (they failed).

Would it be presumptuous to ask how many of these criminal idiots have been arrested, when they will be prosecuted, for what will they be prosecuted (minor criminal damage or a more serious conspiracy charge); if arrested what are their bail conditions, and if finally convicted what punishment will they receive, including a liability to repay the cost of the damage in full?
I fear I know the answers.
Agree, this is the whole point, until the magistrates/judges start handing out appropriate punishments instead of sympathising with their causes then this vandalism/criminality will continue and grow.
And they use a Jury of sympathetic peers, however, we must not let them undermine this important concept.
