Eurovision Events Cancelled at Venues Across Country Following Threats From Palestine Activists

by Will Jones
10 May 2024 5:00 PM

Venues across the country are cancelling Eurovision gigs after Palestine protest groups instructed their followers to hound pubs showing the contest, with bars closing their doors as they fear for staff safety. The Mail has the story.

Bars face boycotts and pickets as they prepare for the singing competition, with pro-Palestine mobs striking out against the inclusion of Israel’s Eden Golan as one of the favourites for Saturday’s grand final.

Action group Brighton Queers for Palestine has posted the contact numbers for bars that are continuing with their nights as they tell their followers to “call and ask them to reconsider screening Eurovision” as they accuse them of “complicity in genocide”.

And some London venues have been forced to cancel their events as they fear for the safety of their staff amid the backlash – with others saying they had decided to close in solidarity with Palestine.

It comes as Rishi Sunak blasted Eurovision protests taking place in Sweden as “wrong” and “outrageous”.

The move has sparked fury among the Jewish community. The Campaign Against Antisemitism said: “It is shameful that venues may be succumbing to pressure from discriminatory groups to cancel Eurovision screenings because the contest features the Jewish state.

“These activists have no regard for the rights and freedoms that we cherish and will use any tactics to get their way, including intimidation.

“This is thuggery, and the only response must be to stand up to it and refuse their outrageous demands.”

Two of London’s biggest Eurovision events have now been cancelled, with four axed in Brighton as activists threaten protests.

LGBTQ entertainment venue the Royal Vauxhall Tavern made the decision to close this week, telling fans this week that it “will not be open for any event on Saturday night”.

Worth reading in full.

Some Daily Sceptic readers wonder why the editorial line here tends to be supportive of Israel. When those opposing Israel include Greta Thunberg and Turkeys for Christmas Queers for Palestine – i.e., the wokeish far Left – perhaps it helps to clarify things. Israel stands condemned primarily for being a white (or, worse, Jewish) colonial imposition on an oppressed indigenous people. But the Leftist ‘anti-colonial’ history here is as mangled as ever, and in fact Israel is (on the most part) a beacon of democracy, sanity and decency in a troubled region – one defending itself against a genocidal aggressor, Hamas. When you find yourself allied with Greta and the mobs that yesterday were rioting for BLM, it’s worth wondering whether you’re on the right team. True, such associations aren’t determinative of being in the wrong. But when the same people are making the same arguments with the same skewed take on history, leading to the same thuggish behaviour, you can start to see a pattern.

Hamas is a prescribed terrorist organisation and Israel has every right to remove the threat! Since when has any genocidal country given the population warnings to leave? That fact is the very essence of non- genocidal!

100%, hux. I’ve absolutely no time for anyone who hates, denigrates, scapegoats or disrespects people based purely on their religion, where they live, their sex or whatever. It demonstrates ignorance, small-mindedness and somebody with a seriously unpleasant personality that I have no desire to rub shoulders with in real life or waste time having any sort of exchange with online either. Haters will always hate but they try and find some justification which legitimizes their hostility. Thankfully they’re not shy in outing themselves so they’re all welcome to carry on stewing in their own bitterness from behind the safety of their screens, shielded by their cloaks of anonymity. Everyone’s a ‘keyboard warrior’, aka a coward, nowadays seemingly. And anyone supporting or excusing terrorism is an absolute disgusting excuse for a human being.

Yes but they are not a haven of democracy in other areas….Look at the vaccine passport system that was a blueprint for heath fascism in the West. And we mustn’t let the ADL of the hook. They have a history of antisemitism accusations of anyone they disagree with, Andrew Bridgen is an example. There were some Jewish groups that defended his speech including the Doctor that he was quoting, but what was the position of the ADL on that. They have also supported open boarders and mass immigration too. But as for the people singing in a contest, all that sh@t was started when they started cancelling Russian athletes in competing just because they happen to be Russian. What next, we have to complete a whole list including whether you support veganism before you are aloud to compete! And another thing that won’t stop at terrorists and Oligarchs is the freezing of assets — the normalisation of that would go hand in hand with CBDCs.

So, Ron Smith.
You are correct that Israel got their response to the Plandemic very badly wrong.
OK, full agreement.
Of course, at least 99% of other countries’ Beloved Leaders also screwed up and the UK was one of the worst.
But on 7th October, Israel suffered mass rape, brutal mass murder of innocent civilians, looting, hostage taking at the hands of an Islamo-fascist death cult overwhelmingly supported by Gazan people.
You suggest that was right and proper because of the Israeli Government’s jabba jabba policies?
Perhaps you think over 30 years of gang rape of British schoolgirls by Religion of Peace enthusists was just a case of getting revenge in early for Bunter’s health wizardry?

Where have I justified October 7th?

” Israel is (on the most part) a beacon of democracy”

I was just picking them up on that quote and pointing out, along with others, that Israel is far from a beacon of democracy for the reasons mentioned. I would go even further and point out Israel should be the last place to introduce health fascism for obvious historical reasons.

For all their faults (and handing Gaza back to the Islamo- fascists was a very bad one), they are easily the best between Athens and Delhi. Not that I am a big fan of either of their Governments.

At least in Israel you will have no problems if you fancy a good and intelligent debate.
Try that in Gaza. Or Tehran. Or Islamabad.

A few years ago, this beacon of democracy, sanity and decency invented untried COVID booster shots for everyone for no particular reason save “We’re going to do that now and see what happens!” The same beacon of democracy, sanity and decency was also behind smearing Andrew Bridgen as antisemite, as per its usual policy of smearing everyone as antisemite who doesn’t believe in its beaconness. That the Gretna is – as usual – just following her marching orders doesn’t mean that I must be particularly fascinated with her present object of ‘official’ disdain.

There are more than two positions here and it’s perfectly possible to object to both sides.

Surely the primary reason to support Israel in this instance is because Hamas, & by association, citizens of Gaza are the aggressors. Hamas’ actions on Oct 7th were an act of murder & rape. At the time there wasn’t a war going on & as those attacked were mainly civilians, it wasn’t an act of war. It was murder & rape.
The Gazan authorities could end the bombing & assault tomorrow if they releases the hostages & extradited the murderers & rapists. They won’t so Israel is entitled to try & releade the hostages & arrest or fight the perpetrators.
Hamas knew what the consequence of their actions would be. They must continue to think it’s worth the cost.

Could you provide a list of “right wing knuckle draggers?”

Tommy Robinson has been one of the few to raise the alarm about the onslaught of muslimisation taking over this country and without our consent. If the way he is being treated by the police and judiciary does not alert you to the probability that he is over the target then you need some new glasses.

Actually I cannot recall any overt commentary in praise of Tommy Robinson in any DS article so your accusation is ill founded but by all means correct me if I am wrong.

If the DS is on the wrong side of history so too are many subscribers. I tend to the view that your interpretation of recent history is somewhat skewed although most likely the result of a lack of research.

No my friend, you are wrong. Like all those who ally themselves with ‘oppressed minorities’, you fail to appreciate that sometimes the oppression is for a very good reason. Israel and its people have a right to exist, and to try to live peace with its neighbours. When all else fails, they also possess the greatest military might in the region, and are not afraid to use it. It is regrettable that anyone has to die in this including ‘innocent Palestinians’, presumably not the ones who were celebrating like New Years Eve driving the bodies of murdered Israeli’s in the back for display. This is nothing more than more Marxist activism clinging onto the next thing to show how much better the world would be with their warped sense of morality. Except we’ve seen it. We’ve seen it in Russia, and China, and Cambodia, and Zimbabwe, and a dozen other places, where so many more innocent lives have been lost. No my friend, you are wrong…

No my friend I am not wrong, it is you and the Daily Septic who are wrong in supporting the pariah Israeli regime.
Jews have a right to exist in their own country.
They don’t have a right to exist in someone elses country.
Jews have always been a minority in Palestine and fortunately tens of thousands are leaving Israel back to where they belong.
A single state where Jews and Arabs live side by side is the desired outcome.

In Israel, Jews and Arabs live side by side, Jews are the 75% majority. Arabs are not discriminated against by the Israeli State.

In Arab nations, there are few if any Jews, they have been excluded by their hosts.

How do you square the ‘peace and love’ outcome, when one side want the other wiped out, and driven from its land.? Have you forgotten what the flashpoint was that started all of this.?

The Daily Sceptic editors have every right to be supportive of whatever they please, but they are almost unique in truly “Defending Freedom”, (unlike The Conservative Woman, The Occidental Observer, and other so-called free speech websites) by allowing comments and articles about views opposed to their own. For this they deserve the highest praise.

Let us not forget, however, that this war thousands of miles away is not our war. Nor is Ukraine’s war “our war”.

We Europeans once fought a massive war to rescue the Jewish people, who cried out to us to save them, gave them refuge in the West, and gave them the homeland in Israel they desired, at a huge cost to our own people. But they showed their gratitude in a strange way, by opening the Gates of the West to mass invasion from the Third World, and quietly forcing laws through our western assemblies to criminalise all resistance to this invasion, while fiercely protecting their own right to resist such invasion.

Let us learn from our mistakes, and not get dragged into another “rescue” war.

Recent research has suggested that CO2 levels were last this high around 14m years ago, causing a climate that would appear alien to people alive today.

If CO₂ levels of ~420ppm (0.042%) caused a climate that would appear alien to people alive today how come they’re not causing that today, too? In other words, if CO₂ causes climate (whatever that’s supposed to mean) how can the same amount of CO₂ both cause a climate that would appear alien to people alive today and one which decidedly wouldn’t because it is the climate of today? Doesn’t this rather suggest that CO₂ doesn’t cause climate?

[This self-contradiction is logically so twisted that it’s really difficult to spell it out in plain English.]

I have much better idea. Considering that they damaged the Magna Charta case in order to get attention for their “The government is breaking the law” statement and claimed this has to be done because “We must get things in proportion. The abundance of life on earth, the climate stability that allows civilisation to continue is what must be revered and protected above all else, even above our most precious artefacts.”, they should be put through a public tribunal where they’d have to explain how reducing the UK contribution to CO₂ in the atmophere to zero can accomplish that, with “UK contributition to …” being put into its proper perspective relative to “Indian contribution to …”, ie, spelled out long it’ll take India to put more CO₂ in the atmosphere than reduction of the UK contribution removed. Behind them should be a prominent display of energy prices in the UK with and without subsidies paid to windfarm owners etc and member of the audience would be asked to express their conviction that the justification didn’t or did make sense by throwing or not throwing any number tomatoes which would be provided for free in generous quantities. This should also be televised by the BBC and Packham should be required to present it.

Action group Brighton Queers for Palestine…

My son equated them to ‘Chickens for KFC’. I don’t think that’s original to him but it has a certain something which is better than ‘Turkeys for Christmas’.

Nothing to do with with the China take over of the Suez area and the fight for world hegemony with the USA then? Nor the oil reserves off the Gaza coast. No, no. Nor the proposed Ben Gurion canal through Israel from the Gulf of Aqaba to the Mediterranean via Gaza. No. Wrong think.

On the whole I agree with DS’s position (I certainly don’t want to ally myself with Greta T and BLM). However, Israel’s history since 1948 isn’t especially rosy (perhaps not quite the beacon that Will makes out?!), and many question how it was that the 7th October attack was able to take place. There are lots of questions (see Phil Warner below) – it’s not at all black and white. And do remember that Netanyahu and his government mandated the Covid jabs, even for schoolchildren (I’m pretty sure), so they don’t have the good of their own people at heart!

Keep on supporting Israel and Jewish people everywhere. If you want to read how bad it can become, read “The School That Escaped the Nazis” by Deborah Cadbury. Man’s inhumanity to man – especially Jews – knows no bounds,

I don’t really like the Eurovision Song Contest.
But the level of bullying and intimidation this 20 year old singer from Israel is having to endure is insane.
The organisers should step in and stop it.
And I am going to vote for her:

The Eurovision Song Contest was never really a serious musical event. It was supposed to just be a bit of fun with Pop Singers like Lulu, Cliff Richard, Sandie Shaw and ABBA etc singing their little tunes and each country voting for which was the best one. It was just Family Entertainment. ——-But as with most things these days, it gets hijacked for political purposes. Just as the weather is hijacked and politicised with climate junk science, and Football is hijacked where high profile players popularity is exploited and they all take the knee etc etc. so now even this little song contest is terrorised and used as a political vehicle. ——-Very sad but not such a big surprise.

I find the UK entry emetic.
I don’t care what consenting adults enjoy in private (so long as they clear up afterwards), But I have no desire to watch, thankyou very much.
Israel’s entry is certainly one of the best.

I wonder do these supporters of Hamas who use threats, intimidation and violence against those who think differently, who are not anti semitic, do you think they ever for a few seconds sit back and think”I am behaving just like the Brown shirts under Hitler”
Who would want to allow such people the voice and the ability to conduct themselves in this country or any other civilised society.
The Government has done nothing, as usual fine words from both sides, but zero actual activity.

Well on a different note, isn’t it good to see that the Covid masks have finally found their true symbolism, cowardice, hatred, violence and intolerance. A new version of the swastika

“Some Daily Sceptic readers wonder why the editorial line here tends to be supportive of Israel.”
Not this DS reader. Preach it Will, Toby et al!

I’m still fathoming why anyone would hold, or want to go to, a Eurovision gig.

Eurovision turned into a parody of itself over 20 years ago.
