The NHS is to declare that sex is a matter of biology in a landmark shift against gender ideology. The Telegraph has more.
Changes to the health service’s written constitution proposed by Ministers will for the first time ban trans women from women-only wards, and give women the right to request a female doctor for intimate care.
The NHS constitution, a document that aims to set out the principles and values of the health service and legal rights for patients and staff, was last updated in 2015. It has to be updated at least every 10 years by the Secretary of State.
Campaigners for women’s rights welcomed the significant shift, which comes after years of wrangling and follows accusations that the health service had been captured by ‘gender ideology’.
In 2021, NHS guidance said trans patients could be placed in single-sex wards based on the gender with which they identified.
The new constitution will state: “We are defining sex as biological sex.”
The clarification means that the right to a single-sex ward means patients would “not have to share sleeping accommodation with patients of the opposite biological sex”.
Until now, no commitment was made to biological sex, meaning some female patients complained that they were forced to share sleeping space with trans women – those who are
bornmale but identify as female.Women’s rights campaigners said the move was a “return to common sense and an overdue recognition that women’s wellbeing and safety matter.”
However, NHS leaders raised concerns that the health service was being “dragged into a pre-election culture wars debate”.
The changes to the constitution are a further indication of a change in attitudes after the Cass review into the NHS’s gender identity services found evidence that allowing children to change gender was built on weak foundations.

It’s rather concerning that it’s took this long for doctors,nurses and medical staff to realise the difference between men and women, how has all this nonsense been allowed to gain traction in the first place?
Does a surgeon seriously have to ask the gender if its an hysterectomy he’s performing?

Trigger ejection seats. NHS leaders are not supposed to start pre-election culture war debates about biological facts. This absolutely doesn’t behove someone supposedly responsible for other people’s health as that’s all about biology.
So. Why do you (NHS ‘leaders’) think that’s a “culture war” debate? Why do you suspect it should be resolved one way or another at an election? If it is resolved one way or another at an election, do you think you should stand by the result?
Said “NHS leaders” probably don’t think anything about this. They’re just following the How to defend against disagreeable policies script. This nicely shows how rotten British public institutions really are. People who work for the government are supposed to implement its policies and not oppose them publically as they have no mandate for playing politics in public. They can offer advice and when that’s not taken, they can chose to conform or resign.
My guess is that the “NHS Leaders” bleating about this are from the non-clinical managerial class, so to them it’s politics.
Anyone medically trained should surely know what’s what, and if they deny that then they’re idiots and liars.
A gynaecologist should most certainly know the sex of the patients (s)he’s expecting to see.

You see, this just reminds me of when the lockdowns, curfews ( in the NL we couldn’t go out 10pm – 5am ), masks etc were dropped. Are we supposed to be grateful that our most fundamental human rights ( sex-based, in the above context ) and civil liberties have been reinstated? These are not luxuries to be removed on a whim then given back in a conveniently timely pre-election manner. No men on a women’s ward, or a women’s prison or a rape crisis centre or in the women’s changing rooms or in female sports is a basic right, so I’ll hold off being all happy clappy because this nonsense should never have been forced upon females in the first place!

I agree. Plus I’m sure there are ulterior motives for this volte face, eg political manoeuvring, vote catching, whatever – even gaslighting! I don’t trust this at all. However, most of the ordinary doctors (consultants) and nurses we come across at Guy’s and St Thomas’s are not on this page at all, just normal people trying to carry out their calling in increasingly trying circumstances. We’ve had some good conversations.

At 6 years old my daughter told the other kids in her class that Santa did not exist and that the presents came from their Mums and Dads. Apparently she made some of the other kids cry. The teacher complained to us.

And since Muslim NHS patients have long been allowed to request/demand a Muslim doctor, so Christian patients must also have the right to request a Christian doctor.

Some years ago when all of this gender garbage seemed to be coming into the News, and all the leftists were tying themselves in knots and getting themselves into a tizzy and the right were insisting there are only 2 sexes but were still somehow afraid to get involved for fear of offending I took about 10 seconds to formulate a view. ——-There are only 2 sexes –Male and Female. Males who have decided they are women cannot use female facilities, (toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards etc) ——-So I took 10 seconds unburdened by ideology or the need to curry favour with voters to arrive at the conclusion it is now taking the authorities years to reach.

This is forced onto an unwilling NHS by an (evil) Tory government which claims to experience it as attempt of forcing it into an entirely politically motivated culture war with no relevance to actual reality whatsoever, ie, the NHS remains firmly committed to mammalism denial, ie, denying that humans are just (sexually reproducing) mammals.
Male wolves impregnate female wolves which then eventually give birth to wolf children they’ll then nurse but with humans, this is all completely different: Male or female humans may or may not impregnate other male or female humans which may or may not eventually give birth to human childen either the father or the mother then may or may not nurse. Anything more precisely attuned to observable facts is a culture war the ultra-extreme-far-right keeps obsessing about for no particular save that it’s the extreme-ultra-far-right and inherently evil. Claming that humans have a nature is racist and claiming that white humans¹ do even racister!
¹ Juxtaposing white and human such as to suggest that whites are human when that’s clearly not the case is obviously racistest.
