Humza Yousaf’s SNP Coalition with Greens Collapses

by Will Jones
25 April 2024 11:05 AM

Humza Yousaf’s coalition with the Scottish Greens has collapsed after he decided to scrap their power-sharing agreement. It came after Green members demanded a vote on the agreement following the Scottish Government scrapping its Net Zero climate change target last week. The Telegraph has more.

The First Minister ended the SNP’s coalition deal this morning before Scottish Green members had the chance to vote on it next month.

Green members demanded the vote after the Scottish Government scrapped its flagship climate change target last week.

The end of the deal, originally negotiated by Nicola Sturgeon, comes after a troubled three-year partnership and Mr. Yousaf will now lead a minority government at Holyrood.

The Scottish Greens reacted with fury and accused Mr. Yousaf of an “act of political cowardice” while the Scottish Tories labelled the collapse of the deal an “utter humiliation” for the SNP leader.

Mr. Yousaf told a press conference at Bute House in Edinburgh that he had terminated the deal with immediate effect because it was “no longer guaranteeing a stable arrangement in parliament”. …

It was suggested to Mr. Yousaf that it was time for a Holyrood election, but he said: “First and foremost, there is a general election, of course, we know it could be any time over the course of this calendar year so we look forward to putting our record very much in front of the people of Scotland and listening to their verdict.

“And remember the people of Scotland of course voted for the SNP to be the largest party by quite some considerable distance I would argue in 2021.

“We are of course continuing as an SNP government. They voted for an SNP minority government in 2021. We continue to be an SNP minority government.”

Worth reading in full.

Seems the Greens made themselves too troublesome even for the SNP.

One obvious lesson should be: don’t make extreme, unachievable pledges just to signal your ‘virtue’ and out of oneupmanship with Westminster.

Nutjobs fall out with nutjobs. How predictable and utterly delicious. I look forward to lots of in-fighting within the SNP over the coming months. Running alongside the deranged climate warming party will be able to stir a proper porridge of mess and confusion before their demise.

Jockland has the potential to become comedy (dark) central this Summer. Marvellous.

Must admit it will be entertaining to watch what happens but, who do you think would be the alternative to unseat the SNP? Do you think labour could make a comeback this time?

There is no alternative to the SNP Dinger. Scotland is but a smaller version of England. In other words a vote for one of the main parties will produce the same result. UK politics is basically Uniparty politics these days – cheeks of the same arse.

The only issue is who gets to become top-dog and therefore eligible to occasionally swan about with One World Government wannabes such as Fond of Lying and perhaps Sleepy Joe while they can keep him on the planet.

For Scots Labour is the only alternative. They traditionally always voted Labour, and it was only when they fell out of love with Tony Blair’s New Labour that they turned to the only other bunch of Socialists available, so they will likely turn full circle back to Labour.

Scottish Labour are no better..they supported the SNP at every vote, mostly whipped to do so…every lousy interfering law thought up by the SNP/Greens only survived because of Sarwar and his cronies.

With a bit of luck the SNP will be decimated or even wiped out. At least they won’t all be squatting like cuckoos in the HoC anymore, taking up valuable space & oxygen.
It’s too much to hope for that the voters will turn to anyone but Labour – one incompetent party replacing an even more incompetent one.

The biggest bonus will be the disappearance of Hummus Yousuffer either before or after the GE.
It’s pity there isn’t a Razzie award for ‘Most Useless, Most Clueless, Best NeoFascist/Commie Politician of the Year’. Hummy would win it hands down.

‘Porridge of mess’ – love it. It’s to be expected when, in this instance, the nutjob SNP try to curry favour with the nutjob greens. Fishy goings on, a right Cullen Skink!

It’s not helped by them not knowing that things like BEVs, heat pumps, run on electricity.

What a load of bull. Nobody voted for a SNP minoritoy government. A minority of the people voted for the SNP. Which means the majority of Scots don’t want it to govern. As usual for PR ‘democracy’, it’s obviously governing nevertheless.

“Proportional Representation”-themed image I created yesterday. The name of the product is “Westfalian Lentil Stew”, a very cheap and popular kind of ready-made food in Germany. The manufacturer’s labels show the names of main German establishment parties (CDU, Christian-Democratic-Union, SPD, Social-Democratic Party of Germany, FDP, Democratic Freedom Party of Germany and Grüne, Greens) and their respective party colours. The text above means “Your Freedom of Choice!”.

One of the features of Devolution, is we have a National research lab where different experiments in governance, tax policy, health policy, social policy, political ideology can be run simultaneously to see which works best or worst.

The likely next Government – Labour – is going to repeat the Scottish experiment, it seems, thereby evoking the sentiment that to repeat something with the expectation of a different outcome is a sign of clinical madness.

But what can be expected from the psychopaths in the political elite, but insanity?

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend”———-This happens to be true both ways round here. The SNP is my enemy and the Greens are even more so. The fact they do not form an eco socialist pincer movement to impoverish the Scottish people with their phony climate communism is one of the few bits of good news coming out of Scottish Politics for a while. But until they are both politically exterminated I cannot relax.

I just read a comment which was, essentially, “this is what you get with PR”. Well, no, it is not and my point is clearly shown in the Tory / LibDem and SNP / Green coalitions: the real issue is that the majority party does not believe in anything so accedes to the minority parties wishes.
This illustrates, once again, that we need politicians who believe in something other than their own density.
Would I vote for PR? Yes, in the hope Reform get a slice of power and can inject some belief into our Governance. I fully expect a hung Parliament this year and I dread to think of Labour with SNP and Greens. Still, maybe it will wake some people up from their Covid induced coma’s? Oh, most were comatose long before that.
Incidentally, Chris Packham is a f’ing liar.

The problem with PR vote systems is that they install political parties as arbiters of ‘the will of the people’. Individual MPs have no democratic mandate, only their parties have and hence, they have zero clout with their party leadership. Party leaders decide which policies will or won’t be on offer and which candidates may go to parliament. All so-called voters can do is select a particular party burger (or soup can, cf image above). In Germany, this has gone to the point that political parties have even gained a constiutional function. It is said that they “help” the electorate make up its mind wrt to politics. But this is really wrong. They control what the electorate may vote for. Eg, in a PR system, if there’s no party opposed to unlimited immigration than voters cannot vote for that, regardless if they would like to.

Nice link between putrid politics and putrid Packham. Packham’s just the Lineker of the animal world, mainly reptiles.

This is splendid news! I loved Alex Salmond’s observation that Yousef would soon be known as “Humza the Brief”. 🙂
