A year ago, Spain introduced gender self-ID, and the results have been predictably disastrous for women, with predatory men granting themselves access to female spaces. Spiked‘s Lauren Smith investigates.
Barely a year after Spain passed its ‘trans equality’ law, gender self-identification is wreaking havoc across the country. To almost no one’s surprise, the law that makes it significantly easier for anyone to legally change their gender has turned out to be a predator’s charter.
Since early 2023, it has become astonishingly easy to change your legal gender in Spain. All you have to do is make two official declarations at a registry office, three months apart. There is no medical consultation or intervention needed, nor do you need to show proof that you actually intend to live life as your chosen gender. You don’t even need to be over 18. Sixteen-year-olds can legally change their name and gender, while 14- and 15-year-olds can do so with parental consent. Even children as young as 12 can legally make the switch with a judge’s approval.
The new law has taken a shredder to women’s rights. As anyone could have predicted, single-sex spaces have been all but abolished. And many other legal protections that women once fought for have disappeared overnight.
Last week, Ana Dávila-Ponce de León, councillor for family, youth and social affairs in Madrid, sent a letter to Spanish equality minister Ana Redondo García denouncing the new law. She had been made aware of a number of cases in Madrid in which men accused of crimes against women have abused the self-ID rules.
These cases, detailed in El Mundo and reported on in English by Reduxx, are truly chilling. According to records, there have been six known cases so far in Madrid of men accused of violence against women legally changing their gender. In three of these cases, the men went on to apply to stay in women’s shelters. So far, it appears that shelter staff have refused them entry. But this is technically illegal under the trans-equality law. It is only a matter of time before a woman’s shelter is punished simply for doing its job – namely, for protecting women from predatory men.
In one particularly disturbing case, a woman reported a man to the police for allegedly drugging and raping her in front of her young daughter. She later found out that he had legally changed his gender. This meant that a number of protections she would ordinarily be entitled to have now been taken away.

The destruction of our once civilised societies is coming along nicely. Although the article discusses Spain I would argue that this country will rapidly be in a similar position. Women’s rights are moving to a position which will definitely be pre-suffragette.

Yes, that’s about it. It’s strange because, somebody on here always used to insist that most trans folk were of the FtM variety, but that’s not what I’m seeing. Not at all. Unless, of course, the vast majority of FtM folk are quietly going about their business and getting on with their lives in a lawful manner, never hitting the headlines or making the news, unlike their MtF counterparts.

A teacher was recently sacked for not using a persons “preferred pronouns”. I saw this afternoon on GB News some trans person argue that the decision was correct because that person defied and went against the school’s policy ie the law. ——-There are many things that are the law that are morally wrong though. Net Zero is the law, but I can argue that it is morally wrong. In some countries it is the law that you lose a limb for being a thief. —–It is the law but is that moral? That law in future will in the future likely be repealed, because it is deemed a total disgrace. So I say to this person on GB News “It may be the law but that does not mean it is right and it is just.

But in the interests of equality and taking a balanced look at this issue, so that we are better able to see comparisons between the two, I’d also like to know the data on the amount of FtM ( female to male ) ‘Gender self-I.D’ individuals. That way we can see the honest evidence of just what the women who parody men get up to in terms of crimes, sex pesting, entering male sports events, and the whole shebang. So much attention ( like a myopic, laser beam continuous amount ) is given to these men parodying women ( or not even bothering with the parody, in Spain’s case ), and I can’t think for the life of me why that is….

Something else of note, which may skew the stats, is that although there seems to be a prevalence of young women butchering their bodies and getting perfectly healthy breasts removed, many females ( even without the breast removal ) are identifying as ‘non-binary’, as opposed to ‘male’. Whereas it’s the men who are actually identifying as ‘women’, with or without ‘bottom surgery’ and moobs. I don’t have a source for this, I’m just going on what I’m reading and observing around this subject. But it’s interesting to me, and obviously telling in many examples, what the different motivations are for both sexes in wishing to change what they were born as.
It’s more the girls/women who want to stay in this sort of limbo, as some hybrid, unspecified species, removing breasts, taking testosterone but not going as far as getting a faux penis, but the men seem to be keener in embracing that ‘trans woman’ identity. I guess, with the latter, a lot of avenues suddenly become accessible and doors are immediately opened for them. Figuratively and literally. It all amounts to the same thing, mental illness, at the end of the day though. But with the men we can’t always even put it down to that, obviously, as it’s just plain, old-fashioned predatory behaviour. They’ve just now got to the advantageous stage where they’re being enabled to live out their sick fantasies and commit their crimes.
Clearly because of long standing traditions and some would say the natural order of things the male to female case is more problematic and therefore receives more attention
The female to male case seems primarily to damage those directly involved (and I suppose anyone who gets in trouble for calling them women)
That’s why I think it’s interesting to look into the different motivations behind each sex and why they want to ‘trans’ themselves, because they are different. For instance, I think a lot of females wishing to transition do so due to previous sexual abuse/harassment or body image issues. It’s evidently not so that they can out-compete the men by entering into men’s sports events, and I doubt very much it’s so they can go full-on sex pest and start molesting men in the changing rooms or touching up little boys.
Men identifying as women, on the other hand, are generally a mix of sexual predators, misogynists ( some overlap here ) and crap athletes who suddenly get to win trophies by cheating their way to the podium, a la Lia Thompson. And that’s before we start talking about fetish proclivity.

These trans laws are mad. No question.
But I doubt very much it’s changing the number of assaults on women. I would bet that the trannies assaulting women would have done so anyway. Some of them are just doing it in drag and in women’s toilets.
I am not so sure as we had a bunch of older men dressed as women with bad wigs, make up and clothing doing everything they could to stare and make the female customers feel uncomfortable in the main bar.
Not sure what they hoped to achieve or maybe they just want to ridicule women and not be like women??
That’s pretty weird. You definitely have to be a highly committed misogynist to go to the trouble of spending an evening in a bar dressed up in drag scowling at women.

Some would argue that a man who now claims they are a woman simply being in a lady’s toilet is “assault”. ———All men have probably walked into a female toilet or changing room by mistake at sometime. But the look on the faces of the women in there of utter shock means we exit without further ado mumbling our apologies. In all of this there seems to be a focus mainly on the rights or the feelings etc of the trans person but little focus on how actual women feel about it.
As has been pointed out, men who deliberately go into women’s private spaces are men who don’t respect boundaries. So they are a greater risk to women than most men are.

How about this for a novel idea: women everywhere let it be known that they want real men, masculine men, not men in a dress. Women stop the perennial crusade against men (yep, all men) and say loud and clear that the female obsession with the battle of the sexes must end. That real men and real women must stand together and fight this deranged, ever-expanding, tyranny. Now that’s something I’d sign up for and I reckon all proper blokes would as well. The idea of uniting – putting down victim cards in the process – is an obvious step in the right direction. Move forward or eat more cake?
AFAICT, the pretty much only male quality women actually care for is height. Anything else is nice but optional. This includes everything conventionally associated with masculine — a jobless, fat guy who never moves away from the playstation at home is perfect provided he’s also tall.
I can see why it happens. Why in post-colonial societies excessive feminization can take hold. It seems to be a salve on touchy memories of a brutal past. For lazy men it means that they don’t even have to try anymore and for women it gives them the assurance that they understand men, essentially as misunderstood little boys. This is just the easy option. Predators do exist. They aren’t particularly numerous but they aren’t neglible either. There are men who coldly and knowingly commit evil and will take advantage of any system that has a weakness. If you have lost sight of that then perhaps you have lost the requisite vitality for societal survival. And you will always get a rude awakening and it won’t always be in time.
