The Director of a new female-led Star Wars film has said she “enjoys making men uncomfortable” as critics warn that her film will be Disney’s biggest woke flop yet. The Mail has more.
Star Wars fans and conservatives have jumped on comments by the Director of a new female-led film in the franchise, leading them to believe it will be another ‘woke’ flop from Disney.
Two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has declared “it’s about time” a woman shaped a Star Wars film as she is set to become the first woman and the first person of colour to direct a feature film for the franchise.
The film Star Wars: New Jedi Order is set after the most recent Star Wars sequel, 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and will be centered on Daisy Ridley’s character Rey.
However, many have unearthed comments made on a panel Obaid-Chinoy did with Meryl Streep and Jon Stewart that has provoked outrage over Disney prioritising politics over good filmmaking.
“I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable,” she said during the panel, which she participated in after winning the Oscar for a documentary about acid attacks against Pakistani women.
“It is important to be able to look into the eyes of a man and say, I am here, and recognise that, and recognise that I am working to bring something that makes you uncomfortable, and it should make you uncomfortable,” she added.
Immediately, people jumped on the repeated comments, in addition to Obaid-Chinoy saying “it’s about time” for a female-led Star Wars film.
“Here’s the feminist director of the next Star Wars film saying that her goal is to ‘make men uncomfortable,” wrote commentator Matt Walsh.
“This movie is destined to be Disney’s biggest flop yet.”
Conservative pundit Ben Shapiro aimed his ire at much-scrutinised LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy, calling her “legitimately the worst entertainment executive of my lifetime.”
Another X user added: “As South Park recently parodied, fans worry that Disney and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy are more concerned with ‘woke’ agendas than good stories.”
In one viral clip from an October South Park special, Eric Cartman is seen speaking to a therapist about how he believes ‘woke’ casting is leading to his own friends being replaced by more diverse versions of themselves in his nightmares before ranting about Kennedy.
“I wanna scream and I’m like, ‘Why are they replacing every single character with someone who is diverse? But then Kenny’s like, ‘It’s not our fault it’s ’cause of Kathleen Kennedy,’ but then Kathleen Kennedy’s just like, ‘F— it, make it more lame!'”
Enjoy making men uncomfortable – isn’t that the definition of sexual harassment these days? Would a man get away with saying he enjoys making women uncomfortable? It’s a question that answers itself.

What’s worse than the disgusting sexual discrimination and very real misandry of this woman’s comments? Play the clip and listen to the joyous – what sounds like very female – response of the audience. Publicly accepted hatred of men exposed through cheering, laughing and clapping. I keep getting told by the feminists that there isn’t a problem, and that my calling them out shows how weak and frightened I am. Of course, it’s exactly the opposite and I’ll continue to call out this disgusting discrimination until more women start to accept responsibility. If you’re a decent person, man or woman, you should also be calling this sh*t out and not letting these horrific women degrade and insult you into silence.
At least one person that’s not a decent human being. I wonder who that could be?
It isn’t me but I think you are over reacting a bit FL.
Being that woman would be my guess. :->
The first objective is to childishly try to alienate half the potential audience.? If I was a Disney investor, I’d be moving my money elsewhere.
As the share price drops, they become a target for activist investors who recognise that the company is undervalued because of this nonsense. They will come in and fix it. I believe they already have at least one large investor currently calling for board level representation. That’s most likely how this ends – the wokesters will get fired.
Why did Disney move in this direction in the first place? We may find that answer if we look to the mischief of the powerful ESG obsessed Investment banks that are major controlling shareholders of companies like Disney. It is they who have pushed the ESG agenda upon companies like Disney who once had one remit – make money for their investors and those investors often directly held shares in their own name in corporations rather than through nominee accounts as is often the case today. The growth of nominee accounts has allowed the huge investment banks to become more powerful than many nation states.
The good news is that some state public pension bodies are now withdrawing their monies from the big politically driven investment banks and either investing the money themselves or placing the monies with less ESG obsessed investment managers.
She doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable, just bored. I should feel sorry for her really as I can’t imagine she enjoys life, certainly nothing like as much as I enjoy mine. She sounds desperate.
They have stated they want to make movies for diverse audiences. They have said ‘toxic fans’ can GTFO.
Unfortunately for them the ‘diverse crowd’ are not interested in seeing their movies and the ‘fans’ have got the message and aren’t coming back either.
Big Problem.
Rather sadly the peoples of the West are going to be facing far greater problems in 2024 than some ridiculous, oxygen-thieving woman who has made a Disney flop.
They should get Mel Gibson to direct the next one, “Star Wars: Revenge of the Patriarchy”
Maybe just me but the first thought I had was is this a joke, is she really a man?
No, she’s obviously Jabba the Hutt in an ingenious disguise.
A lot of people enjoy being jerks. That’s neither new nor was it ever an all-male hobby.
“I Enjoy Making Men Uncomfortable”
I think the word she is looking for is annoyed, or better still disinterested.
Uninterested. “Disinterested” means unbiased.
She makes me uncomfortable because she’s somewhat unappealing. Definitely another example of why women getting the vote has screwed up the west. It’ll fail abysmally.
“person of colour”? What colour?
I don’t pay the TV tax so as not to help fund the BBC, likewise I will not subscribe to the Disney Channel or watch any of their offerings. Star Wars is long past it’s best and not worth paying to see.
Reminds me of that awful Ghost Busters films with an all women line up, Unfunny and unwatchable.
She’ll end up selling ice cream in the foyer of a cinema nobody is visiting. How’s Disney still in business?
I think that there should be a black lesbian in a wheelchair making every film, not just Star Wars. I want to see everyone who isn’t a black lesbian in a wheelchair squirm and writhe in agony on the floor and curse their mother for having given them birth.
But why misrepresent the subject matter by calling it Star Wars when it’s not about stars, wars or sci-fi? She should call it My Really Interesting Politics In A Vacuum With Space Ships.
