I’d call it “Roman Emperor Syndrome”, after the Robert Graves account of Tiberius, a character who – in the novel if not in history – represses the less pleasant aspects of his personality until absolute power enables him to express them. The media class of today, unchallenged, group thinking, back slapping, drug addled and arrogant, is a collection of such creatures.
