In this week’s episode of London Calling, James Delingpole and I discuss his new diet, my new diet, my trip to Ibiza, the Spectator party, why it’s never wise to tell tales out of school, Bill Gates, the French riots, and, in Culture Corner, why James has grown bored of Bernard Cornwell and why we both still like Anthony Trollope.

Toby seems to think that Bill Gates is ok !
You don’t have to be on Team James to see that Gates is a wrong un.
One needn’t speculate much.
He’s supposedly a philanthropist, which as I understand involves giving money away. And yet since embarking on his philanthropy he has become richer.
So he’s either so incredibly incompetent that he’s unable to give money away more quickly than he makes it – something almost nobody would struggle with – or he’s not a philanthropist at all.
Take a guess.
The Wind Through The Overton Window.
Last week Weasel paid a visit to Ratty, the week before it was Mr Toad .
Mole tries to explain
“The Toad is an arrogant blowhard with money to burn and an obsession for the latest fad.
With his large estate, inherited capital, and love of expensive toys.
He is also self-centered and takes his friends and comfortable life for granted. The Toad serves as his own antagonist and creates situations that endanger himself and others. In doing so, he damages the community’s reputation and frustrates his friends. ”
Weasel can’t decide who he wants to be. Toady or Ratty.
Mole has heard The Call of The False Piper at The Bill Gates Of The Dead and understands it’s meaning.
Mole tries to tell Weasel, that he is in fact a Water Rat and those he thinks are like him are really weasls’ in disguise. ‘Everything is inverted’ cries Mole to no avail.
This week the Weasley Water Rat continued to try and undo The Mole and his wise underground counsel.
” But, but” stammers Ratty.
“Exactly” says Mole, ” That’s what you are talking out of”.
Mole refuses, as always to discuss the uncultured Rabbits
‘Hare-brained creatures of the meadow and the Wild Wood.
The rabbits are numerous but lack common sense.
They are unable to make any impact upon their community and are not taken seriously by the other animals. ‘
Let’s hope the weasels’ defeat at the novel’s end will show that their fearsome reputation was not based in reality.
I hope those who find in-depth and time consuming historical research, critical thinking and scepticism a touch taxing on the brain and therefore label such individuals who do ‘conspiracy theorist’s’, enjoy this fairytale as that seems to be what they believe.
