The big upset in the Dutch Senate elections in March was driven by a rebellion against the Government’s latest green agenda. But, bizarrely, on this occasion it had nothing to do with CO2. Fighting just one atmospheric gas is not enough now, it seems; Western elites have also declared war on nitrogen, emissions of which are alleged to cause plants to grow and die in unapproved ways. There is said to be a ‘nitrogen crisis’ and taking action against it requires the destruction of large parts of the economy and the seizing of thousands of farms by the state. Are they just making this stuff up now?
Eva Vlaardingerbroek has written about it in the Spectator.
The Government, a four-party coalition led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte and his People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), has decided that 30% of all cattle farms need to be closed by 2030 in order to halve nitrogen emissions – which it says pose a threat to the Dutch environment, as protected under the European Union’s ‘Natura 2000’ regulations. Apparently we have a ‘nitrogen crisis’ because the gas causes certain plants to die or grow in areas where EU bureaucrats have decided that they shouldn’t.
Dutch farmers will be forced to either sell their land to the state now or face expropriation later. If the destruction of Holland’s farming industry is carried out in the way the Government plans, there will also be consequences for the world’s food supply. Although we are not a big country, we are the second largest exporter of agricultural products in the world, after the U.S. It’s a remarkable position to hold, but if it’s up to our leaders we won’t have that title much longer.
The attack on farmers is part of a larger conflict between the authoritarian green agenda being pushed by our Government and the silent majority paying for it all, but whose opinion is never asked. Dutch voters – many of whom aren’t usually overly political, but who understand that our farmers are feeding our nation and the rest of the world – are growing tired of globalists’ policies to ‘save the planet’ with synthetic meat, edible insects, solar panels and wind turbine parks.
And so on March 15th, the elections resulted in a landslide victory for the BoerBurgerBeweging party (BBB) – which translates as ‘the Farmer-Citizen Movement’. The BBB won 17 out of 75 seats, making it the largest party in the senate. Rutte’s VVD won only 10. It was an unprecedented result, given that this was the first time the BBB was running for Senate seats. It was also, in words of the party’s founder and leader, Caroline van der Plas, a “big fat middle finger” to the establishment.
The Government and EU are insistent however that the agenda must go ahead regardless of the popular revolt at the ballot box.
Following its shock win, the BBB is facing huge pressure from both the Dutch government and the EU. On election night, Christianne van der Wal, the ‘Minister of Nitrogen’ (what a world we live in!) had the audacity to declare that, despite the BBB’s victory, “there is no choice but to move forward” with the nitrogen policies and expropriation plans. Two weeks later, the European Commission – an unelected body– proclaimed that “continued vigilance is needed to ensure the Netherlands will meet its emission reduction commitments”.
The Government could, therefore, cite the EU’s response as the reason it has to press ahead with its highly unpopular policies. In reality, it is still as wedded to the idea of a nitrogen crisis as ever, whatever the European Commission might say.
This is shaping up to be a massive clash between ordinary people and ideologically obsessed elites, particularly as on current polling BBB is set to take control of the Government in the coming elections.
It’s not improbable that after last month’s results the cabinet will not survive its term and the General Election that is scheduled for 2025 will have to be brought forward. Based on the current polling, BBB would become the largest party in the House of Representatives; and Van der Plas would become Holland’s first female Prime Minister.
But will the party stick to its guns and demand an end to the ludicrous talk of a ‘nitrogen crisis’, or will it cave in to pressure from above?

Nitrogen problem – pseudoscientific nonsense.
It’s also ‘funny’ how all these crisis involve something invisible. The only connection with any of these invisible ‘dangers’ is through graphs, tables and diagrams, supplied by those that have solutions. Those graphs, tables and diagrams will always have a scale that exaggerates the supposed threat while using dramatic colours, and sometimes dramatic music.
Here are a few:
Coronavirus, or any virus
Bacteria (any)
CO2
Nitrogen
Carbon
Methane
Unconscious biases
Don’t forget the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Not to mention the Methane under the world’s super volcanos, Yellowstone Caldera et al. We must unplug them.
And “models”. ——Which the blob continues to call “science”. —–A model is no more “science” than a calculator is “mathematics”.
Funny how the solution to every “crisis” involves the state taking away your freedoms, your property, and making you poorer.
But you will be happy!
The issue of dodgy chemicals and gases – Co2, Nitrogen – what’s next – is simply a cover for the depopulation agenda.
Annihilating the food and farming sector will result in mass hunger. In the first instance this will create compliant populations. As the situation is progressively made worse hunger will be replaced by starvation, ill health and mass deaths, probably enhanced by another so-called virus, let’s call this one chicken ‘flu for arguments sake.
So blatant.
Stealing the farmer’s land give elites control of food production (i.e. cut it) and make way to build the Tristate City
It’s not the first time in history that a narrative change is brought about to let another elite come to power and enrich itself over the former.
But it is the first time in history that this new elite openly pursues all that with an agenda that will deliberately lead to the impoverishment and enslavement of the plebs instead of at least promising them a better future.
And that this happens now, when the plebs actually had a say, at least a much larger one than in their previous history, and that these plebs enabled and continue to enable them to do just that, is equally unique in history and completely farcical.
Absolutely. It is astonishing and demoralising in equal measures that these fithy, corrupt, pocket-lining b’stards actually tell us to our face that we must accept that we will become a lot poorer – and very few people seem to understand that we do not have to accept any such thing. That even if one accepts that the excess spending under corona (and prior, bailing out banks and untenable currency unions) will inevitably lead to some belt tightening, this does not mean we have to accept that this will be a permanent thing (which is very much what is being implied by these criminals), and, more importantly – if these pocket-fillers have no other promises than inevitable, perpetual poverty and a lower standard of living, what exactly do we need them for? If they do not even wish to pretend they will make our lives better, they may as well faff off, we could not possibly do any worse without them.
BBB did do well, it was an earthquake, but I don’t think it will carry through to the general election. At the end of the day, the legacy parties still got far too many votes. Frans Timmermans, EU ‘green’ czar, member of the Dutch Labour Party, is one of the main drivers of the intentional impoverishment of millions of people. Yesterday he proudly announced even more taxes and financial suffering for the average citizen. The same fat cat who gets 26,000 euros a month tax free, and was bunged 1800 euros a month (more than the Dutch monthly minimum wage) to pay for his increased electricity bill. His party actually gained a seat in the senate! Apparently a lot of midwits agree with the sentiment that some pigs are indeed more equal than others.
Eva makes an excellent point that NL is a major exporter of agricultural products. The liars in the cabinet are making out that destroying this position will have little to no consequence for the economy! They are also trying to turn Schiphol Airport into a small provincial airport, again claiming this will make no difference to the economy.
Their actions will absolutely destroy the economy, the only area where zero difference will be seen is in their precious emissions BS. My own opinion, for what it’s worth: both Germany and NL are intentionally being brought down as that is the only way to ‘save’ the euro – the Target2 imbalances have been ignored, but are still there. The original plan to bring the poorer countries up to the level of the richer countries will never happen, so the easiest thing (other than admitting the euro was a monumental mistake) is to make the richer countries poorer. Makes no odds to the Brussels mob, they will never suffer financially one way or the other. I do take some solace from the fact that they love trees so much. Useful things, trees.
Thanks for the update Jane.
Very useful things, trees. Historically traitors were hung from them. By the neck until dead
But most people busy with work and family life have no time to investigate every issue. They think their TV news Channels are doing that for them. So when they come in after a long day and switch on the TV News in between doing up the dishes and getting little Sarah and Johnny to run along and do their homework they might see something on the TV about some big flood or typhoon and hear it’s all because of “climate change”. ——They think it’s all true and that it has all to do with “science”, and those scientists know what they are talking about so who am I to disagree? ———They cannot tell the difference between “science” and “official science”. —-If they don’t wake up soon they will be getting allocated an appointment to have their gas central heating removed, and a heat pump fitted and a 15,000 quid bill to pay for it.
I get the sense that Malthusian psychopaths have decided life should become more difficult in order to discourage people from breeding. Reducing the food supply ( = driving up the cost) is just a small part of that effort. Climate anxiety, economic anxiety, breakdown in social trust, breakdown in traditional gender roles; all driving down the birth rate, mostly of the middle classes, and mostly in western nations.
But perhaps it’s an emergent phenomena, symptoms of a civilisation collapsing inward into dust, like an old, desiccated piece of fruit; its energy and goodness long-gone, hollowed out by maggots.
Or it could be simply what Hux P. has been saying all along – these sociopaths really want to cull hundreds of millions of people. Either because they really believe human sacrifice is necessary to save the planet or because they just want more of everything for themselves.
The latter
Doesn’t the name Custer mean anything to these sociopaths?
Paradoxically though poverty and starvation cause an increase in birth rates.
When these scares come about they talk as though the Nitrogen in the air just builds up and up and never goes away. And yet one way or another we have been putting nitrogen in the air for years and years and we are all still here today. Nitrogen moves around in a complex 5 stage cycle, any thought that there is a nitrogen problem should involve a proper consideration of the nitrogen cycle. If there is a problem at all, and that’s a big if, then we can address it by a proper consideration of the nitrogen cycle and how to farm in harmony with a balanced nitrogen cycle.
For 70 years fertiliser has been cheap and readily available and farmers have been encouraged to apply it with gay abandon. But we do not have to farm that way, modern technology has given us the means for much more precision and targeted use. Much could be done to reduce nitrogen use and waste without the need to stop farming. The fact that any sort of dialogue with farmers is being eschewed and they are going straight for a stop farming approach, clearly shows that this is not about farming nor about nitrogen usage it is a far more sinister, insidious and inhuman agenda and must be called out and stopped.
You hit the nail on the head.
Further illustrated by a chart the Dutch government produced with Nitrogen hotspots, and using this chart to decide which farms had to go.
It was shown the chart was based on nothing and they had to retract.
I don’t think it’s about nitrogen gas emissions, nitrogen makes up 70% of the atmosphere, but chemical run off from fertilisers which the EU wants to get rid of because they are produced using fossil fuel.
It’s still total b@ll@cks though.
When you know yourself and the enemy, you won’t have to fear for the outcome of a hundred battles. When you know yourself but don’t know the enemy, every victory you win will be followed by a defeat. When you know neither yourself nor the enemy, all of your battles will end in defeat.
[Sun Tzu, The Art of War]
So-called EU bureaucrats are responsible for achieving political goals formulated by the governing body a of the EU, the council of the representatives of the elected governments of the EU member states (depending on the topic and scope of the issue, such a representative will either be a certain minister or the head of government). They have no political power to act on their own behalf. If there are emission reduction committments people of the Netherlands have to suffer, then, the chances are very high that Ratte (German for rat) was among those who voted for them.
The only crisis we have is an abundance of free loading parasitic political class.
Perfect and concise summary of our current problems. Thank you.

Control the food, control the people.
Page 2 of the Marxist handbook.
The Dutch people need to understand that they are in a battle they MUST win.
Lose it, and they will be surrendering to totalitarian rule by Eco Nutters who don’t give a rats ar$e about Dutch Farmers, the Dutch people or anything else, except their Agenda of control.
If the Dutch don’t win their battle we may well all be doomed.
I used to love Eva on the Mark Steyn Show, but the blob not only want rid of CO2 and Nitrogen they hope to be rid of Steyn and Eva as well and anyone else that gets in the way of their plan to totally control everything we do. As someone once pointed out “The urge to save humanity is almost always a false face for the urge to rule it”.
It’s bloody obvious they are making it up as they go along ffs, how many more dangerous atmospheric gases will need to be net-zeroed before they want to get rid of oxygen? Will the compliant fall for that one too when the narrative (propaganda) is hyped on BBC/ MSM?
Schoolboy science classes once upon a time told us that Earth’s atmosphere is made up of approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. It apparently also has small amounts of other gases too, such as carbon dioxide, neon, and hydrogen which make up the other 1%
According to these people, our planet is killing us. Perhaps we ought to start net-zeroing the whole bloody planet to save ourselves.
I’m eagerly awaiting the phosphorus crisis.
Most of the earth’s atmosphere is nitrogen.
The end solution/result of this is that the authorities will own or control everything and the people will have to obey the authorities.
