Newsnight hit a new low on Thursday night, failing to challenge the claims of two climate protestors. Ross Clark in the Spectator has more.
Newsnight’s presenter, Victoria Derbyshire, proceeded [held] a three-way discussion between herself, a Just Stop Oil activist, Indigo Rumbelow, and, er, Rupert Read, formerly of Extinction Rebellion. Read now leads an embryonic organisation called the Climate Majority Project, whose web page suggests it has a strikingly similar outlook to Extinction Rebellion.
There were obvious questions to ask Rumbelow: namely, who do you think you are, thinking you have the right to ruin a sporting event that is enjoyed by millions, either as participants or spectators? And why target a running event, which is surely all about doing something of which you ought to approve: getting about on foot?
There were questions to be asked of Extinction Rebellion, too – given that it has offered to ‘police’ the event. Are climate pressure groups now operating as a kind of protection racket, to which we are also supposed to go and negotiate before we are allowed to go about our day-to-day business?
None of these questions got asked. Rather, Newsnight first ran a short video in which it asserted that “violence’”was being shown towards climate protesters; it illustrated this partly with a police officer doing his job and arresting a member of a mob vandalising a building with red paint.
Rumbelow was then introduced. She asserted that “we need to move into civil resistance against our criminal government which is pushing for new oil and gas”. Derbyshire failed to challenge this remark and ask the obvious: what criminal law is the government supposed to have broken?
Worth reading in full.
Stop Press: Indigo Rumbelow said in the interview that courts were refusing to convict climate protesters. In fact, Two Just Stop Oil protestors who scaled a bridge over the Dartford Crossing and caused 40 hours of gridlock were jailed for five years yesterday.

If you don’t watch it, it loses its power. Cancel the TV licence, cancel the Sky subscription, unplug the aerial and the satellite cable. You will feel better for it. Less “dirty”. And you get big chunks of your life back with which you can do something much more interesting.
I haven’t had a so-called TV since about 1995. Instead of dying of boredom, I find myself constantly short of time for doing all the things I’d like to do and I’m really wondering how other can manage to spend at least a few hours in front of this thing every day.
Also don’t watch any live streamed broadcast TV over the internet including GBNews and TalkTV. Don’t use BBC iPlayer. Do use catch-up. Most of YouTube is fine though note they’re cancelling and demonetising the anti-woke set who seem to be moving to Rumble. No licence is then legally required if you do the above.
See “TV Licence Stop” on YouTube if you want more advice.
So right. Be the change you want to see in the world. TV-free for 20yrs and spend many times the licence fee supporting – and enormously benefitting from – UK Column, Solari, substacks, etc.
The poor old Beeb running the Shriekometer this high so late in the day. With insurance giants, and Vanguard for goodness sakes, all boycotting the Net Zero initiative in the last 2mths, that house of cards must be about to topple.
I finally took my unused for several years now TV to the dump yesterday. I’m still not sure what I will do with the extra space.
That’s true for German courts. But in the so-called German state, nothing is really independent from whatever policies the so-called American left is pushing today. Their lackeys running the so-called government will see to that.
Lest face it, the people that watch news night are never going to be challenged on fanatical beliefs of the climate Ponzi scheme anyway, for the sake of one’s blood pressure avoid.
They usually have a discussion between a left winger & an extreme left winger.

We expect this from activist channels like the BBC and SKY, but I am also disappointed that GB News leave the interrogating of these silly people to their presenters. Rees Mogg does a reasonable job trying to put questions to them that they refuse to answer because they are too busy thinking about the next blurt of climate vomit they are about to eject from their mouths. Patrick Christys tries his best but clearly is not up to date with this issue as he probably has to a lot of issues to try and understand. ———-So what is required is that if GB News are going to have these activists on they need also to have on someone like Ross Clark or Andrew Montford and simply let the presenter be in the middle of it. The absurdity and claims of certainty where there are none would easily be exposed for what they are by Ross Clark. ——— A total jumble of evidence free drivel all based on worst case scenarios from climate models that are completely implausible.
Do all activists have made up names e.g. Indigo Rumbelow?
Unfortunately if you have the ‘correct’ opinions and ideology you will be unchallenged in too much of the media.
To be fair though, all those runners, most who don’t run marathons all the time, wheezing and panting their way around the course will produce more CO2 than if they were just strolling along.
