The King will continue to push environmental issues while on the throne, palace sources have indicated, but he will “highlight” rather than campaign in the manner he has done for decades. The Telegraph has the story.
It comes after the King had a telephone conversation with Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday, during which the French president “signalled his full willingness” to continue their work together – “starting with the protection of the climate and the planet”.
The King will no longer travel to the COP27 world leaders’ summit in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, in November, when he was due to push his own green agenda and announce a new forum on sustainability, the Telegraph has confirmed…
The Terra Carta Action Forum, or Earth Charter – a 10-year “recovery plan” for the private sector – is due to take place during the COP27 climate talks on Nov 7th and 8th. It is being hosted by the King’s Sustainable Markets Initiative, which was launched by His Majesty last January.
Royal sources said the King’s passion for the environment and commitment to the cause would not diminish, noting that it was widely known and not hugely controversial.
What he does about those views is “a different matter” and an issue that his advisers will address between them in the coming weeks and months.
One acknowledged that it might appear odd for the King to suddenly stop talking about a subject on which he has campaigned for five decades.
“There is a difference between highlighting and championing, particularly when championing specific policies,” said the source.
“He will not campaign on the issue but he is still a great convener and can still bring people together.”
Another royal insider said it would not be impossible for the King to attend events such as COP27 in the future, but that he would have to take a different approach to that as the Prince of Wales.
”The way he engages with them would have to change,” said the insider…
The King, who was often accused of meddling as the Prince of Wales, acknowledged in his first televised address to the nation last Friday that he would step back from his campaigning and charity work that shaped his life as heir to the throne.

He seems like a dangerous utopianist
Hope I am wrong
He’s a not-so-bright fantasist who is only smart enough to follow the narrative but not smart enough to see it’s political activism and isn’t anything to do with science
It’s like I said in a previous comment: he isn’t smart enough to shut up.
Like the Hydra, the WEF will not be silenced.
Even if Charles is not quite as active an evangelist, his offspring will continue the process, with double the noise.
And I don’t doubt that Charles will be pulling many strings behind the scenes.
I don’t think its wrong for The King to be interested in ‘green matters’.
I think its very wrong of The King to be pushing a supra-national political agenda that is using lies about green matters to push societal change.
Re: ‘I don’t think its wrong for The King to be interested in ‘green matters’. I think its very wrong of The King to be pushing a supra-national political agenda that is using lies about green matters to push societal change.’
Green matters = Environmentalism = an inherently supra-national / universalist political (and religious) society-changing misanthropic creed.
We need to drop all primitive Nature fear and supplication and get back to its control and exploitation for the benefit of all (including non-human animals).
Hundreds of thousands of lives in the UK alone are now at risk because of the decades long economy and morale destroying Climate Change and general Green project.
I hope that the new Liz Truss administration has the courage of its Net Zero challenging convictions (re eg fracking) to see off any undemocratic royal meddling in these areas.
It’s long past the time for urgent restorative action.
All hail the Lizard King.
When British people are freezing this winter I don’t think they’ll have much enthusias for Charles’s green fantasies. He also seems oblivious to the fact that some of his eco-zealot mates were trying to disrupt his mother’s funeral. With his passion for the green movement he has got into bed with some very unsavoury types who would also like to see him out of a job.
I think if anyone can turn people off green-mania it will be Charlie. He has such an annoying face and irritating way of speech that his support for this agenda will make it uncool. His hypocrisy will be harder to hide now that he has landed the top job.
*Although who am I kidding? Hypocrisy has not been punished in any realistic way for ages. He never even managed to persuade his parents not to have a Range Rover each*
When Britain’s are freezing this winter, the media will ensure that Mr. Putin will be front and centre as the devil incarnate as the culprit!
That may at least give the anti-monarchist, leftist greenies some cognitive dissonance.
In other words he will campaign to freeze plebs to death whilst he rents us the sea bed. Does anyone have a functioning guillotine for this child of Antoinette? Four legs good, co2 bad.
In other words the idiot will carry on being an idiot. Quelle surprise.
He’s never been the sharpest knife in the drawer. 90% of his subjects aren’t fooled by the climate hoax and if he wants to kill the monarchy, he’going the right way about it.
I think he’ll find that these issues ARE hugely controversial …. particularly if we have a hard winter.
He’s a handful of days into his reign and already is announcing that he doesn’t intend fulfilling the role of a Constitutional Monarch, above politics.
He should be encouraged to abdicate, like his Great Uncle.
His son is a much of an eco loon & even more dangerous because the public support him….
Tsar Nicholas II was ‘highlighting’ desired deployments on the battlefield in 1917, not a happy precedent.
‘Far better not.’
Needs to pin his ears back, stop meddling and stay quiet.
He needs to stop helicopter hopping around his homes before preaching anything. Then lose the other vehicles in his convoys. Maybe downsize his residences. At least he’s worried about the people of Wales who could possibly suffer from hypothermia this winter because of the green policies made years ago.
So Charles III is doing a reverse Canute. Canute’s advisers tried to tell him he could stop metaphorical sea level rise and Canute pointed out he could not. The new cabinet may advise the King that he cannot stop sea level rise but the King will insist we can, presumably by eating insects, building windmills and disappearing 25% of the population. He is deluded. Next it’ll be tea-pots.
Not hugely controversial? Hopefully more people will research the truth and realise that the “climate emergency” is complete rubbish. If Charles continues with his political involvements it is time for the end of the monarchy. If we had an election for king I think he would be way down the list. We need a leader who puts the interests of our country and its people first and Charles is far from that.
