Truckers in Canada’s Freedom Convoy protest against vaccine mandates and other Covid restrictions have responded to Government smears of violence, racism and links to far-right groups. The Mail has the story.
Angry truckers have lashed out at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after members of their convoy protest were arrested and charged with hate crimes during another weekend of unrest in the country’s capital city.
They have also strongly denied that they have ties to ultra-right-wing groups, insisting they are just “ordinary truckers”.
“It’s intimidation, nothing else,” Freedom Convoy protestor Guy Meister told DailyMail.com on Monday. “We are just a bunch of hard working truck drivers who are out here protesting the Government’s Covid mandates.
“We aren’t political, we are the working class.”
James Doull, 24, a diesel mechanic who is organising truckers parked along Wellington Street, where many of the parliamentary and Government buildings are located, claimed “all the stuff put out by Trudeau and the Government” about the convoy “are lies.”
“There is no racism, the truckers aren’t vandalising things,” he told DailyMail.com. “Fringe groups coming in may be responsible but it’s not the truckers themselves.
“We are not right-wing conspiracists, we are hard-working everyday Canadians who just want our freedom back,” said Doull, who lives in Grand Manan, New Brunswick.
Since DailyMail.com arrived in Ottawa last week we have seen no indication of violence or vandalism or any extremist political agenda. In fact, the demonstrations have shown the opposite.
Apart from the incessant honking of their horns, all has been peaceful. The truckers seem to have united the people of Canada in a common goal, to get rid of Government mandates.
People who came out to support the protestors brought food, clothing and other supplies. Families came with their children in tow, some with newborns, in sub zero temperatures to show their support.
We have not even seen any arguments with the few counter protestors who were in attendance.
Every trucker DailyMail.com spoke with said they came to protest non-violently and their only reason being there was to free Canada of its Covid mandates.
Truckers were conscientious of the public streets and kept them free of litter. They also shovelled snow and threw down de-icer making the streets and sidewalks easier to walk on.
Kids were welcomed by the truckers. On several occasions they allowed them to clamber up in their cabs and blow their air horns.
The truckers are protesting rules that say that any unvaccinated drivers have to quarantine for two weeks after crossing the US/Canada border in either direction.
Originally, both countries allowed an exemption for truckers to ease the supply chain crisis that has developed since Covid hit, but Canada ended that exemption on January 15th and the United States followed suit a week later.
The convoy, which organisers claimed stretched up to 45 miles long, set out from Prince Rupert, on the Pacific coast of British Columbia, on January 22nd and arrived in the nation’s capital last week.
Since then, Canadian authorities have taken an increasingly hard line, arresting seven people and opening 60 criminal investigations.
They also seized fuel and supplies for 1,000 vehicles Sunday and Ottawa mayor Jim Watson declared a state of emergency.
But truckers continued to converge on the capital city where they blocked streets, shot off fireworks and blared horns, in protest of the rules, which also cover drivers going the other way into the U.S.

Stop Press: A judge has issued a 10-day injunction, effective as of Monday, banning stationary trucks from honking their horns in the Freedom Convoy. Ontario Superior Court Justice Hugh McLean said: “Tooting a horn is not an expression of any great thought I’m aware of” – an obviously fatuous remark in the context of a protest – adding that the local residents’ right to peace and quiet outweighed the truckers’ right to protest. He said the restrictions won’t last forever and noted that Canada has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world – which somewhat implies his decision was inappropriately based on disagreeing with the protestors’ cause. Meanwhile, Trudeau has been slammed for smearing the protestors as a “few people shouting and waving swastikas”.

My sister lives in Canada and we visited in 2005.
I found the people remarkably friendly which is why it disappoints me to see the country become a fascist state led by one of the most infandous politicians in the world – a bully and a coward.
It is also upsetting to note that the Canadian police have become the government’s storm troopers.
However, this protest appears to have woken up Canadians with masks and vaccine passports etc. now being totally ignored. Some provincial leaders are also scrapping the Covid nonsense.
We now need to see similar protests in Great Britain.
Of course they are the true working class, something Trudeau, who belongs to the elite liberal Chardonnay socialist class can’t relate too. His pals are say, oh, Tony Blair maybe. I have no trouble relating to them, warts and all they may have. I was born working class and will never be anything else.
Here in NZ our govt of woke liberals have called our protestors “not real NZers”. Well, since the country has been locked down they must be! They have also tried to point out the odd Trump flag or right wing group involved. An old govt tactic used by right or left – smear dirt and divide to try and confuse the message. But it’s starting to look like a fraud, slowly, even here as more grow disenchanted every day.

Mark Steyn on GB News tonight was well worth watching. He and another journalist from Canada really exposed (excuse pun) the naked hostility of Trudeau and the leader of the NDP towards these Truckers and their supporters.
The truckers didn’t “lash-out” they politely and calmly told the authorities that they were full of the proverbial.
They have swung public opinion in favor of ending all restrictions, yesterday it stood at 54% and rising, a swing of 15% in under a week. they have the hearts and minds of a majority of Canadians, there will always be a minority of counter opinions, however, even then living in a climate that at times can kill you in minutes without the right clothes forms bonds that are not easily broken, and creates a willingness to listen to differing opinions.
At the moment in Canada all levels of government have completely lost the plot and are spinning in circles chasing their own tails. They look more and more foolish with every passing day.
Trudeau is a political dead man walking, he just doesn’t have the intellectual capacity to comprehend it.

Well said! I try not to watch him speaking – it’s embarrassing. That someone so effete and gormless should be the head of such a country defies belief. But then it depends on what qualities placemen are required to have – a sense of their own importance and an ability to follow orders, I suppose.

This is an incredibly powerful protest. In spite of the attempt by the politicians and their allies in big tech and the MSM to ignore or distort this story, it is gaining traction all over the world. If the truckers can stay strong and stick it out in Ottawa, that will strike fear into the hearts of tyrants everywhere, and they will be forced to start dismantling the covid mandates. To save face, they will have some reason other than they are afraid of a trucker protest coming to their town, but they will do it nonetheless.
These smears by left-wing politicians are extremely predictable.
Just as it is extremely predictable that right-wingers will use the protests to try and recruit new members into their ranks.
But of course the same holds true for any sort of opposition party – there will always be attempts to opportunistically “convert” pissed off people to whatever cause an opposition leader is trying to push for own benefit.
The solution in a democratic country is never to suppress protests, nor to continuously paint the opposition as the devil or keep harassing them. The solution is to simply stop giving people reasons to become pissed off and convert to the “dark side” (which can be extreme left or extreme right, depending on who is in power).
Yet the reality is that extremist left-wingers depend on extremist right-wing opposition to further their own political goals and vice versa. That is why they love provoking the other side, so as to be able to retaliate. I might be wrong, but I believe this Canadian Trucker protest – if successful – is the best chance the world has to defeat not only the myriad Covid tyrannies, but all kinds of other nefarious Big Brother type agendas that are being planned for the world.
I think this could be a pivotal battle to “protect” freedom and personal liberties. Of course the State and all its many corrupt partners and allies are going to do everything in their considerable power to defeat this protest. Agreed. It is already having an impact around the world. As much as the MSM and big tech would like to just ignore it and let it fade into obscurity, it’s grown too big to ignore. So instead there has been an attempt to discredit it, but there are at least a few independent journalists providing first hand reports and videos that are providing a fairer picture of what is going on.

I think most people who are paying attention to this story (enough people are not) realize that the corporate press is in bed with the State and enthusiastically supports these liberty-killing mandates.
I hope the truckers expand their demands to drop the mandates for EVERYONE. I also hope they keep bringing attention to these Big Brother “vaccine passports” and make sure we get rid of these too.

The cops are arresting those who are bringing fuel to support the truckers. In other words, they are trying to freeze the protestors out and break their lines of communication and solidarity with other parts of the population.

The Daily Heil are hardly likely to praise lorry drivers (“truckers”) in Britain, given that so many are non-British. They’re unlikely to praise Justin Trudeau either, given that for them he was born a garlic-eating surrender monkey.
Perhaps they will lament the absence of a “Canadian-style” trucker movement in Britain, the same way they adore the thought of an “Australian-style” points system for immigration.

Good and bad from the Daily Mail. Their headline “the Mail’s reporter can only conclude these peaceful, good-natured protestors are 100% correct about that – if nothing else” tells it’s own story. They find it impossible to not acknowledge the good nature on display from the truckers, but also find it impossible to acknowledge the basic protest points around freedom and choice. It’s like MSM have never really understood genuine democracy (or under strict orders to now pretend they don’t understand) and have always had a hidden disdain for the common pleb. Another bunch who see themselves as superior and that only their twisted version of democracy (otherwise called fascism/communism – see little difference) is worthy.
