News Round-Up

  • “Rebel MPs plot to oust Boris Johnson, as Covid ‘Plan B’ restrictions to be scrapped” – Details of ‘pork pie plot’ among Tories first elected in 2019 emerge as PM prepares to drop work from home guidance and Covid passports, reports the Telegraph.
  • “The curse of Covid: can any leader survive the pandemic?” – The political future may well belong to those who can restore the liberties that lockdown measures tore away, writes Fraser Nelson in the Telegraph.
  • “Hospitals Should Hire, Not Fire, Nurses with Natural Immunity” – Hospitals are firing nurses and other staff with superior natural immunity while retaining those with weaker vaccine-induced immunity, writes Professor Martin Kulldorff on the Brownstone Institute.
  • “My life as an outcast under Macron’s vaccine passport scheme” – “When the vaccine pass comes into effect later this week, I will not be able to enter a bar or a restaurant”, writes Gavin Mortimer in the Spectator, after choosing not to get a third dose.
  • “Boris Johnson must set out a sensible post-pandemic strategy” – An opportunity has arisen for a completely new approach to Covid. The Prime Minister should seize it, says the Telegraph in its leading article.
  • “Overdue for Sanity: Covid Confessions” – It has been a fascinating ten days for confessions, writes Omar Khan, with CDC Director Walensky announcing “the overwhelming number of deaths, over 75%, occurred in people who had at least four comorbidities”.
  • “Austria Will Mandate Covid Vaccinations and Impose Fines. The Rest of Europe May Follow” – In two weeks’ time, Austria is set to become the first European country to make vaccines mandatory, reports TrialSite News.
  • “Covid could still save Boris” – England can lead the world out of pandemic, writes Freddie Sayers, optimistically, in UnHerd.
  • “Covid: what the hell happened and why?” – Gabrielle Bauer in Bournbrook says that in her search for answers, she has found Moral Foundations Theory very helpful.
  • “Navy bosses warn sailors they face the sack if they decline jab” – In a significant hardening of Royal Navy policy, personnel who continue to decline the jab have been told it could cost them their careers, reports the Daily Mail.
  • “Shapiro wins big in Supreme Court vaccine battle” – Laura Perrins in TCW on the U.S. Supreme Court’s cancellation of Biden’s vaccine mandate.
  • “Scanned: Why Vaccine Passports, Mandates, and Digital IDs Will Mean the End of Privacy and Personal Freedom” – New book by Nick Corbishley commended by Dr. Peter McCullough as “an emergency read”.
  • “Official mortality data for England suggest systematic miscategorisation of vaccine status and uncertain effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination” – The latest pre-print from Professor Norman Fenton, Dr. Clare Craig and other leading pandemic analysts that digs into anomalies in the data to ask if all is as it seems.
  • “Two thirds of Covid vaccine side effects are imagined, study suggests” – Scientists found people who were given a dummy injection became ill because they anticipated a negative effect, reports the Telegraph. Presumably this doesn’t include ‘imaginary’ myocarditis and blood clots.
  • “Former Bay Area Lockdown Guru: ‘OK Everybody Please Stop Locking Down Now’” – “It’s time to start living again,” says Zero Covid thinkfluencer Tomas Pueyo, according to Eugyppius on his latest Substack update.
  • “Novak Djokovic: thoughtcriminal” – Australia deported him over his personal beliefs. What a dreadful precedent to set, writes Tom Slater on Spiked.
  • “Unvaccinated Italian Priests Banned from Distributing Holy Communion” – Two Italian bishops have banned any unvaccinated priests from distributing Holy Communion at Mass in their respective dioceses, reports Breitbart.
  • “Petition: Revoke compulsory wearing of facemasks on public transport and in shops” – Sign the petition on the Parliament website which argues: “The recent mandating of masks should be overturned forthwith and we should return to making it a matter of personal choice whether or not to wear one.”
  • “Hong Kong to cull 2,000 hamsters and small mammals over Covid case” – A Delta outbreak in ‘Zero Covid’ Hong Kong will result in the culling of 2,000 small mammals after one was suspected of infecting a pet shop employee, reports the BBC. Not the hamsters!
  • “Discordant SARS-CoV-2 PCR and Rapid Antigen Test Results When Infectious: A December 2021 Occupational Case Series” – Pre-print study which casts doubt on the effectiveness of LFTs against Omicron, concluding: “Most Omicron cases were infectious for several days before being detectable by rapid antigen tests.”
  • “Thousands of children have fallen off the radar during lockdown, warns Dame Rachel De Souza” – Children’s Commissioner launches inquiry to track down youngsters who may be at risk because they are not in the classroom, the Telegraph reports.
  • “Climate Alarmists Conceal Global Temperature Anomaly Measurement Declines Despite Increasing Atmospheric CO2” – The failure of COP26 may be fortuitous given the latest global temperature measurement results, which show a multi-year decline, reports Watts Up With That?
  • “When are we going to take radical Islam seriously?” – The terror in Texas confirms that British Islamism has become a global menace, writes Brendan O’Neill in Spiked.
  • “Inside the Tory trans civil war” – MPs vilify their colleagues for criticising Stonewall, while Conservative MP Crispin Blunt complains to Surrey Police and Crime Panel about tweets by Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend which dared to question whether men who think they’re women are actually women.
  • “The snakes and ladders game of statues” – Timothy Bradshaw in TCW on the question of how we keep our connection with the past without always condoning it.
  • “Boris can’t fix the migrant crisis” – The missing ingredient is political will, says Patrick O’Flynn in the Spectator, as “moving to an offshore processing model would require Britain to withdraw from a thicket of outdated international agreements, such as the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees”.
  • “The Press arrived believing a plot was under way so everyone left by the backdoor” – Christopher Hope tweets about the febrile atmosphere currently surrounding the Prime Minister.

LATEST Chaos at the Carlton Club tonight. Boris Johnson had a drink with Conor Burns.
Nadine Dorries was addressing an Onward dinner.
Four 1922 members were having supper.
The Press arrived believing a plot was under way so everyone left by the backdoor. One MP: "It is a farce."
