Young person traveling so only one vax - How do they in the UK know when you return that you need to isolate? is it from what you fill in on the Passenger locator form or from the NHS test and then travel cert you get on the app  you take before you go ?

The PLF.
They will sometimes check the vaccine status on the app or ask for a letter.

But mainly the PLF.

So could you falsify the information on the PLF? Is that a criminal offence?

What do you need to falsify? You can fake the Day 2 & 8 tests thing pretty easily, there's no checking that your order code is legitimate, so long as it fits the ABCDE1234567 format.
Name/address ought to match your documents, I would say. Then just ignore the isolation rules, literally don't give it a second thought.

@jccgh if the address is legitimate then what happens when the gastapo come knocking at your door to make sure you're isolating?

Nobody has to isolate.

And nobody comes knocking.

Ive just come in from Amber again and yet again the only check is a very brief glance the name and address on plf are the same as passport.

Nothing else and nothing at all in the UK.

I came back from Mallorca last week. Island was busy, and full of Germans. Not many English about though.

The testing has been a bit of a hassle but once you've done it once, I think it would be easier next time since you don't need to think about the test provider and you know where to go for an antigen test in the country (assuming that is still required). I would say a good half day was taken filling in forms and apps relating to the tests and re-entry to the UK whilst away which wasn't much fun.

As for track and trace, I received three calls from them on day two and was polite, seeing as I didn't want them on my arse each day after and it seems they have stopped calling me. Have paid for day 5 testing so I can be out and about over the weekend.

It was good to get away for a while but to be honest staying in the UK makes a lot more sense especially given the pre-depature test. As an unvaccinated traveller I won't benefit from the new system yet. The government are clearly trying to 'reward' the vaccinated and make them feel like they have got something out of it by making it easier for travel. Give it six months and I think it will be back to normal for all travellers...
