The fact that Covid kills mainly the elderly is as clear as day.
There is also drastic drop in deaths in the elderly during the current wave. It is reasonable to conclude this is due to a successful vaccination campaign for that high-risk group.
This extreme age stratification was known by the end of January 2020, purely from the early clinical data. In fact by the second week of February 2020 the senior medical people in Hong Kong were saying that unlike influenza and especially pandemic influenza the probability of serious illness to those under 60 was unusually low. SARs CoV 2 was known from the very beginning to be purely a pneumonia of old sick people and pretty much no one else.
The last pandemic influenza Swine flu in 2009 was unusual because older people > 55 had much higher innate immunity to it so had much lower than normal mortality rates. It was younger people like me who ended up in hospital in 2009 and were disproportionately among the 60K+ who died in the US. So the people who died of SARs 2 from February to June 2020 were exactly the sort of people who would have died in 2009 if H1N1-09 had been a normal flu pandemic.
CDC case number statistics mean zero. Even the FROM causes numbers need serious work as so many states provided seriously polluted data. NY, NJ, MA, MN, CA state data is pretty much junk for most of the last 18 months. I've been using WA as my control because even though there are other serious issues at least the numbers were collected in a consistent way from the very start. All CDC data should have , NJ, MA, MN, CA removed as compromised and at least half a dozen states have serious data issues.
As for the potential vaccine effect. The risk group have the lowest immune system response to traditional vaccines. Low to nil. All potential human corona virus vaccines are just like influenza vaccines, just short term effect and low / no positive outcome among high risk groups. In public health terms its a placebo. The flu shot has very positive net effect because it is very safe and younger people are at risk from serious illness from influenza.
The current CDC is a shell of what it once was. Almost all with real scientific medical background at senior level were pushed out in the last decade. Replaced by "health equity" charlatans. So little different from say the LA Heath Dept which is run by a sociologist and staffed by few with any relevant medical backgrounds.
So the vaccines are little more than high risk placebos as public health measures. For what is little more than a novel form of "flu". In my experience its pretty minor compared with Swine Flu in 2009. For people who are not old and sick.
