I've seen mention of ivermectin as a "game changer" for covid treatment on these forums.

Is there any substance to this?

Not yet.
Some pretty poor trials lacking in any useful robust techniques which are then amplified by fairly poor methodology meta-studies of those same trials.

There are some weak "suggestions" of some effects but noting solid.

It needs proper, robust clinical trials (such as REACT) to pull out any possible benefit.

That's not to say it doesn't do anything - its that there's nothing robust out there to suggest it DOES.

@splatt     I have read many of the comments that discount the use of Ivermectin due to the lack of proper testing in the West.   While this may be true their are MANY Docs out there who claim that their patients have benefited.   Meanwhile in the "lesser developed countries,"  i.e, India! and in South America and probably others, the governments there are using it as the level of vaccine availability is nowhere near what we have, either in the US, UK etc.     But,  even if the skepticism of Ivermectin is warranted, there is such a thing called the "Placebo effect."   It is not a subject that I ever see much ink expended on,  but it nevertheless shows that in these studies and tests of the "approved" vaccines that we value so highly, it is consistently shown that 1 out of 3 of those patients given the Placebo have the same or similar results as those who take the actual medicine.    If one out of three people who contract covid and take the Ivermetcin are helped then I see ZERO reason to "forbid" it as is currently the case in the US.   You can't get a mainstream Dr. to even consider a prescription because of the conformity required of the medical profession.   That of course does not address the question as to the TRUE efficacy of using Ivermectin.   The fact that it has NOT been tested for such efficacy is really a crime against humanity in my view and a disgraceful display of hubris.

@thinksaboutit

john Campbell does a good job of debunking the bbc who had tried to debunk ivermectin.

So not a "game changer"

We don't know.
It could be the best thing ever or the worst thing ever.
Without proper clinical trials we have literally no way of knowing.

Slightly surprised RECOVERY aren't looking at it.

@splatt here's an America going over it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cshajqSRdQ4

I'm trying to keep an open mind, but it seems odd. Do you think there could be a conspiracy?
