I just learned why the left support lockdowns, masks and all the rest of it. Those of the left have a supersticious belief in the powers of the state. It's as simple as that, and it proves the Boris is a true left wing PM, indistinguishable from Mr Brown or Mr Wilson. He believes in the Big State. And to the extent to which the Great Reset” of capitalism is a left wing project, then sure,
you'd have to have a supersticious belief in the powers of the state to want to try a Great Reset. The lefties are loving every minute of this crisis, I fear.

I am afraid l would have to disagree with you here Swinchard, l am a traditional left wing voter and voted remain, but l think l can honestly say you would not find a single person more vehemently against lockdown than myself. I have been against lockdown since March,it was evident from very early the pill would always be worse than the ill. I detest every single aspect if this de-humanising nonsense. l also have a good friend who was a prospective Labour candidate for a South London seat last year, who is also very anti lockdown.
However l would agree that Starmer's stance and opposition to lockdown has been an unmitigated disaster, and l have written to him telling him so, and told him l would never vote Labour ever again. The whole thing is just a health and safety nightmare , with bells on.

It's a mistake to label many things left or right. It can also be authoritarian vs libertarian.

With all due respect, if you disagree so much with Labour perhaps you are not as left wing as you used to be?

Not seen any evidence lockdown support is related to right/left political leaning. Its one of the few issues with a spread of supporters and opponents on both sides.

Some people oppose on libertarian grounds whereas some the main reason is scientific.
There doesnt seem to be anything more going on than that.
I know plenty of people from both camps, some support this lunacy, some don't but none have any political leanings in common.

One i can think of is the most hardcore corbynista i can think of - we share a common hobby and argue about everything political on a daily basis. Yet he's anti lockdown on the premise that it simply hasnt worked, doesnt work and isnt going to solve anything for example.
On the flip side i know life long Tory voters who are losing faith in Boris because he's not locking down ENOUGH.
