My thought was that yes, this is a dry run. But not for a Black Death tier pandemic. No, for net zero.
I think it's safe to say that with governments around the world listening to the Swedish Doom Goblin net zero is coming like it or not. There isn't the political will or testicular fortitute to invest in nuclear power and energy efficient technologies (which is the solution and has been for decades but because of doomers going "muh Chernobyl" it will never happen) and renewables are kept entirely afloat by subsidy. Case in point - Germany's Energiewende, much lauded by greenies, relies on natural gas as a backup to the point at which their CO2 emissions are increasing.
Without a stable, zero-carbon source of energy, transition away from fossil fuels is not feasible unless people accept large restrictions on their day to day life. That means orders of magnitude less travel, huge taxes on flights, less transport of goods and people, less everything. Therefore, I suspect that some grey eminences in the corridors of power are looking very carefully at lockdown to see what restrictions people will and will not abide by. That is why they keep cycling them in and out. So that when net zero comes along and we're legally prevented from emitting CO2 they can bring in regulations to provide for it. I do not think this is deliberate or a "scamdemic" or a "plandemic," but there is a saying in politics that you should never let a crisis go to waste.
As for me, all I have to say is this - I will not eat the bugs, I will not live in the pod, I will not work in the cage, I will not socialise via Zoom calls, and I will not ration my butter. Oh, and you can pry my blue steak from my cold, dead hands. I've had a taste of rationing and shortages and I do not like it, especially not when the rich and powerful will routinely lecture the rest of us from their luxury yachts and private jets, Lewis Hamilton.
Mass hysteria and dont forget public pressure.
Boris had the right plan for 3 days before caving in to lockdown demands.
No government is going to give up lockdowns because no government wants to admit they've caused literally trillions of euros of damage to the economy and potentially a few million unemployed because they got it wrong.
The natural instinct is always to double down in that circumstance.
There's no conspiracy here, its incompetence combined with arse-covering.
They are doing it at the moment because they can...
And apparently Japan is now putting lots of money into PCR and panicking about a newly discovered 500 "cases".
There's no conspiracy here, its incompetence combined with arse-covering.
All over the world, with even hitherto sensible governments now jumping on the PCR/overreactlon bandwagon (Sweden and Japan)?
