Remember Derbyshire is the force that did the ridiculous drone/twitter persecuting of people in lockdown v1.
The problem is they dangle the carrot of a fine reduced if paid quickly. This discourages people from going to court.
Ultimately these women broke no law. The law makes no distinction of local, no mention of 5 miles and they can easily argue its safer.
The law also doesnt ban "exercise" whilst carrying a drink.
If they go to court, they win. But the 50% "special price, pay now" fine is intended to discourage that.
We had them last week posting on twitter and facebook about illegal gatherings of kids building snowmen and sledging.
The police response *in person* to those is substantially more than the normal response you'd see for actual crimes.
Here's another one:-

"There have been 2 reports of snowballs being thrown last night between 11 & 11:30pm. This is obviously not a justifiable reason to be out of your house, this behaviour is likely to result in a £200 Fixed Penalty Notice for breaking the lockdown rules."
Again they're just making shit up now. Walking is exercise, throwing is exercise. Walking and throwing something is going to be exercise.
Police are rapidly going out of control with the power just as they did previously.
Big Brother Watch needs to be notified of each and every instance of police overreach.
This is not one for MPs. The rights bodies need to fight these things.
My decision is to refuse to comment on my reason to the plod, and I’ll say I’ll tell the judge.
I’ll give my details but I won’t sign the ticket and I won’t even talk my copy.
They’ll have to summons me. And I’ll go to court 🤷♂️

Given that the police are using more and more absurd reasons for issuing fines for breaking covid laws ( a minefield anyway) do people know of any group of lawyers or lawyer that understand the draconian rules and can help on what to do should you be arrested. Eating a Mars bar in public will likely soon be classed as a picnic so I am going to stock up on picnic bars to confuse the plod a bit..
Being prepared for the ever increasing likelihood of plod tapping you on the shoulder would be very helpful.i know there are a few lawyers on here. I think it would be good information to have to hand.
😀
