Bear in mind what the EU has been discussing on this since January - this will inevitably be proposed as an app ("for simplicity and ease of use") which will render us all subject to a legal requirement to carry a smartphone unless there are limited exceptions.

I would add a number of European states have longstanding ID card systems and requirements to register with the local police and the notion of carrying proof of who you are and your statue isn't so much of a stretch for them.

For Britons, it should (my view) go against our established concepts of freedom and rights, although everyone is free to reflect on that. An NHS passport will inevitably be rolled into a form of ID card which will feed inexorably into a wider surveillance state. Data is freely transferable to other states' police, immigration and health authorities (based on existing practices) and we already know police hold databases of people who haven't committed crimes e.g. non-crime hate incidents.

Very hard to roll back once this is introduced....

Wall to wall 24/7 surveillance of everything you say and do is a definite objective of the current government, and most opposition parties to boot, and Covid just gives them the perfect excuse to enable that plan.
The requirement for everybody to carry a smart phone will also, via GPS technology, allow them to monitor your every movement every second of the day, everyday of your life.
The likes of Apple, Google, and Facebook together with national governments are in quid pro quo here working for each others benefits. Anyone who can't see that l am afraid is utterly and completely deluded.
Should we be looking at Silicon Valley and not Wuhan as the source of this evil saga?
This l will let you ponder.

There are a whole lot of interests clamouring to get their noses into this trough. I can't see mandating smart phones working with 100% of the population. Keep your phone in a metal box with a tight lid. My son-in-law had a problem with his works van fitted with tracker and sad boss with a meaningless life who spent all his time checking around where his employees were. Aluminium foil applied over the roof-mounted antenna just down the road, Friday evening to Monday morning made the van undetectable. Said boss spent a fortune trying to find what was wrong.

It would have been cheaper to get rid of the skivver.
