US excess deaths and comorbidities similar to UK

A newsletter published by John Hopkins University on 22 November has been pulled four days later. It questioned the net effect of covid-related deaths on overall deaths, saying that they are not as serious as made out (well, surprise, surprise).

It went on to highlight the corresponding reduction in deaths due to other causes and questioned the attribution of deaths to covid (again, surprise, surprise).

What is remarkable for us in the UK is that the misattributions and the comorbidities are pretty much identical. The CDC quote 94% comorbidity and the NHS quote about 95.6%. You can see the NHS/ONS information on the weekly deaths here:

Whether this is a coordinated, planned approach or mere conditioned copying like the proverbial murmuration of starlings, I cannot say. Whatever the case, what we can take from this is that any argument or challenge from either side of the pond might benefit from intelligent coordination.
