Exactly " cases" …
According to the ZOE app ~460k have symptoms today.
Tim Spector uses a factor of 1.2 to estimate all cases incl. none symptomatic. His results are comparable to ONS survey. None of the 460k real cases were false positive, since they had no test.
Why do many countries act in the same way?
It's because of covid19. There are tests and clinical observations. People started dropping down dead after saying they'd lost their sense of smell!
positives the government, the negative achievements....
No, I have no list like that. Prof Niel Ferguson thinks 500k more would be dead, I think that's hogwash.
vaccine will make this all go away will it?
Who knows? With lockdown in place preventing Herd immunity from building up, vaccines are the only possible route left to better immunity. The alternative is endless lockdown.
Well, the exit must return us to some sort of normal. That means getting rid of the virus.
Since the only way we know to get rid of the virus is via immunity, which means we all have to get exposed to either covid-19 or a vaccine.
I think you mean getting rid of the impact or effects of the virus, as opposed to actually getting rid of the virus itself, which will be impossible to do.
The only successful eradication I can think of is smallpox. But, smallpox was (1) far more deadly than covid and (2) a lot more difficult to transmit - and hence easier to contain. A very different creature.
The underlying coronavirus is the basic common cold viral unit.
This virus will always be around, and it is impossible everybody will be immune all the time. There will always be casualties. They will never go to zero. It will just be one of those things in the background that some people will occasionally die of, depending on their circumstances and other conditions. Just like the flu in that respect.
But, after having reached such a stage of hype, how are most people going to be brought to accept this "new normal", without permanently blighting their lives with masks, "social distancing" and all that stuff?
More importantly, after having been so complicit in generating the hype, which political leaders are going to stand up and say "this is as good as gets folks, forget about it now and go back to your normal lives".
I do not see any of the current bunch, anywhere, doing that.
still claiming the vaccines induce immunity
to be clear: The only potential way left in a lockdown to build up immunity is a vaccine. There is no other way. It's either a vaccine, which may work (we do not know) or never.
It is not just me saying this, you say it yourself, several times by the way.

either is fine by me.

It'll be a free country (again), so we are free to do all that stuff, if they want to blight their own lives they should fill their boots.
which political leaders are going to stand up and say "this is as good as gets folks, forget about it now and go back to your normal lives".
I would think they would be queueing up to say that.

If there is no prior exposure, no immunity is developed. A total lockdown, shut in at home without any contact, shrink-wrapped top to toe, would ensure no exposure. A vaccine is an exposure of sorts and, in this case, may be the only way. We don't have such a lockdown - and never have.
Compulsory shrink-wrapping is planned for Tier 5, I heard.
