Wouldn't surprise me if most of the loudest anti-vaxxers, sorry, Typhoid Karens, Nurgle's Little Helpers, etc. on here are pro-lockdown trolls trying to stir the pot and discredit lockdown scepticism as a whole.
I would hazard a guess that all the pro covid vax are people who will benefit from it. Ie fat, unhealthy, old, co morbidities
Why on earth a young fit healthy person would have it baffles me. Particularly as up until yesterday it didn't even stop spread. It's ok though it now does stop spread, a bit like masks. They didn't work, then they did.
I might research thalidomide tonight. See how safe and effective that was until it wasn't.
If anyone thinks that the vaccine is a solution to unlocking this, I have to tell you, you're severely misguided. I hope I'm wrong ( I don't think I am.)
I keep saying this, to people who are still lockdown zealots:
1) The vaccine is not 100% effective.
2) The long term effects of the vaccine (including the length of protection for those in whom it is 100% effective) cannot be known.
3) If you agree with the above 2 statements you must agree that in order for life to continue we must learn to live with the virus and accept that there's no such thing as zero risk or zero covid.
Statement 3 is the issue. 1 and 2 are statements of the bleeding obvious. The flu vaccine is far more effective than the COVID vaccine. Do we have any year where people (despite receiving the flu jab) still 100% survive the flu?
The answer is no, in case you're in doubt.
I saw this quote, on this site:
Necessity is the plea for every restriction of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.
William Pitt the Younger
The politicians have wedded themselves to fear and feeding the hysteria. They say the lockdown and the restrictions are out of necessity. They are NOT going to suddenly do an about turn.
The ONLY way we get out of this quickly is if those who are still able to think about this rationally start to take a stand against the authoritarian, autocratic insanity loop that we find ourselves in.
If anyone thinks that the vaccine is a solution to unlocking this, I have to tell you, you're severely misguided. I hope I'm wrong ( I don't think I am.)
Manufacturers of vaccines would like to increase their wealth. If they saw this firmly established by repeat orders, they would be less likely to covertly lobby for lockdown as a means to that end. They may also lobby for increased attention to variants if it further ensures their future wealth.
We could yield to this lobby, in which case it would be an unlocking - but with the threat of repeat lockdowns. Or we could reject it entirely, leaving no threat of lockdowns and having learned what a mistake lockdowns are.
We would return to whatever vaccination programme we previously had. And, in the light of experience, I expect this would be subjected to a bit more scrutiny.
The flu vaccine is far more effective than the COVID vaccine.
Completely untrue. Generally we see 40-60% flu vaccine efficacy each year, sometimes (as recently) far lower.
... fat, unhealthy, old, co morbidities
But you're picking the wrong foe.
Your real enemies are Devi Sridar and those on SAGE who would strive for zero covid19, at all costs. Freedoms go out the window. If they prevail, you'll have even fewer freedoms than you have now.
If vaccination of the vulnerable (fat, unhealthy, old, co morbidities) can save us from that, next winter, then I'm all for it.
