Look, of course if a scientist is working on a not-for-profit vaccine, he has to eat so he has to make wages,and if he visits a manufacturer, and takes a taxi from the station, like we would,the taxi driver needs his wages. Of course the whole enterprise of developing a drugs, mean taxi drivers and hoteliers make money, but that's not what we mean here, we mean corporate profits for shareholders/pension firms.

Without this fundamental drive there wouldn't be the pharm industry that is striving to address this new huge market. Yes, there will be profit, but the consumers value the product and pay for it.
Partly - its an interesting concept that the pharmaceutical industry and governments have collaborated in developing hitherto unused marketing techniques that have created a new huge market where novel psychological techniques are used to sufficiently terrify and coerce 'customers' into 'valuing' the industry products.

You do know those apps have no statistical significance. None. Little difference from web based "opinion polls". If you presented them as "scientific evidence" you would get laughed in your face by actual scientists. They are nothing more than possibly interesting low grade data points. Thats it.

Did you ever actually check the CV's of that Committee you put such great store in? For the 16 members. I have. Only 3 members of that committees have actual heavy duty research background directly relating to this particular viral epidemic. Half of the Committee are NHS and related apparatchiks. A bunch more respiratory and infections guys, almost all bacterial infections. A very different beast from viral infections like HCOV's. Thats why they have very distinct separate specialties. Because they have quite very epidemiologies and pathologies.
Its exactly the sort of committee that is appointed by governments when they want to give a patina of scientific gravitas to already pre ordained political decisions by the PM's office.
If you were familiar with the constitution and background of members of actual real scientific committees (I am) then if that Committee was purely interested in the science and safety of any mass immunization the membership would have been totally different. At least 12 members of any such committee would have full relevant recent domain knowledge expertise. Not 3. Maybe you should check out the membership of the various Influenza vaccination policy committees over the decades (to pick one relevant example) to see the contrast between a real scientific committee and a political fig-leaf Potemkin ""expert" committee. Which is all the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation actually is.
