Are you seriously suggesting history is a set of random events and decisions by incompetents beyond the control of anyone?
The Great Reset / Green New Deal isn't a conspiracy theory, it's hiding in plain sight if you care to look.

If you actually knew your history (not the stuff you read in secondary school) and talked to some of the people who where there, yes, very important events happened for basically random reasons. There were lots of various possible paths, there were lots of players big and small who had to make or not make decisions big and small and the final combination of events and their outcomes is a classic random walk. Those who see patterns see them because that is what the brains is hard wired to do. See patterns, even where there its just a melange of random path events.
We create stories out of this chaos, a narrative with a logical flow, as a way of dealing with the arbitrary randomness of the universe, and our life. Some of use recognize and accept this and prepare accordingly. So I first started paying attention to the current situation in the first week of January based on the news out of Hong Kong and Taiwan and the Chinese expat media and by the end of January I had complete changed my travel plans for the year so as to look after my elderly parents. Just in case. I had everything locked down and ready by early February based on the alarming (and as it turns out fraudulent) published literature from the 2003 outbreak.
So now I am paying close attention to what will happen next year. Because it will be far more unstable and unpredictable than even this year.
I dont see patterns where there are none but I have a good nose for unsettling trends. Which are when day to day events start to look suspiciously like previous very bad things which had happened in the past. It is for the very same reason I completely changed all my living / travels plans in March 2008 when the crash later in the year became inevitable. I was not some brilliant seer of the future, I just knew the prelude to a financial crash when I saw one. So I was in the best possible place (for me) to ride out the crash by July of that year. Hunkered down and ready.
Conspiracy theories are just chasing your tail.. The achieve nothing practical. Especially in very dangerous times like these. You may find this surprising but outside of Scandinavia the UK is probably the best (or least worst) situated for deal with the catastrophe that will unfold next year. Mainly because France and Italy (both countries I know very well) are in very dire straights politically and economical with Germany in almost as bad a situation.
I'm not worries about some Great Reset, I'm more worried about the fact like almost half of the German electorate vote for extreme right or extreme left wing parties. You should read the AfD and Die Gruenen manifestos if you want to be seriously scared. Germany is looking at the worst near term economic outlook since the Great Depression. They successfully dodged the economic mess back in the 1970's.
I'm not going to waste my time with fantasy grand unified conspiracy theories because there are far more scary real disasters unfolding before us. I expect authoritarian government of some sort or other in most European countries in the next few years. The RN in France, the Greens/SPD in Germany. The Lega in Italy. Sure there is lot of the Green New Deal insanity in there but the revolt against that stupidity will happen soon enough. The Green Taxes in France did not last long in the face of a popular revolt against them. The second part of the popular revolt came very close to toppling Macron. It was even hairier than 1968. You can be sure that Green Parties and Radical Environmentalists paid very close attention to what happened in France.
For the UK what is most important is to force the end of the current insanity as quickly as possible. In the end its the muddle through and make do which is such a national characteristic which will save the country from the worst excesses which I fear will happen on the Continent in the coming years. No matter what you might thing of Brexit, good or bad, I strongly suspect it may have inadvertently saved us from something much worse in the long run. A bit like the Dunkirk fiasco in 1940.
Yes the post 2020 world will be very different from what went before. But it wont be as huge a change as happened in 1989/91 in the configuration of the world. Most of what you are seeing at the moment is the end of a cycle when the current ruling elite have reached the end of the road. Just like they did in the 1970's. I'd guess you were not around at the time but the UK of 1983 was a very different place from 1978. A very very different place politically. Just like the UK by the end of 2021 will be a very different place from it was at the beginning of 2016.
None of this needs conspiracy theories to explain. Just the usual random walk of history. From one monumental cock up to another.
Reading jmc's posts, I entirely agree. Much as though I am sometimes drawn to the idea that there must be some overarching malevolent plan, I realise that hanlon's razor applies yet again and our leaders and their acolytes are inept beyond sheer belief. The concern is the opportunities from the devastation caused by the politically motivated incompetent herd are not lost on those equipped to take advantage, whether locally or globally. Opportunities are money and power/control whether a huge windfall to be made from govt's who have been 'groomed' or marketed into setting aside even basic liabilities for an unproven vaccine product to annexing Taiwan when the rest of the world is distracted.
From growing up in the 60s and 70s I had always assumed government and civil service were generally pretty competent despite my father's utterly cynical view of politicians, having worked alongside Jim Callaghan in the Inland Revenue. Intellectually we prefer to believe those who are expected to direct entire economies and nations to be 'better' than ourselves rather than an unrealistic and inflated belief in one's own competence. In business, having the experience of building a successful multinational high-tech company in a challenging sector I began to realise that the whole international business environment is a set of random events and decisions often by incompetents. It is beyond the control of anyone, those who are successful are just better at taking advantage of the opportunities as they arise and taking earlier measures than others to safeguard one's organisation when threats arise. And some of that success is due to 'luck'.
I realise that hanlon's razor applies yet again and our leaders and their acolytes are inept beyond sheer belief.
To my mind, their initial incompetence is neither beyond belief, nor culpable. But a perpetual incompetence, en masse, that has not realised this is beyond belief.
A more credible explanation would be that they are protecting themselves from blame. As this is at the great expense of others, it would indeed be culpable.
I think we are playing out a farce over an extended period to cover their backsides - which are the source of their rhetoric.

Thanks, that makes interesting reading. Although I'm not sure why you call The Great Reset a conspiracy theory? The Great Reset designed to bring about the 4th Industrial Revolution was set out in June by the World Economic forum.

This is an actionable plan and in my view best fits the outcomes that are being achieved by the UK government.
The Great Reset is a driving force. It may not completely explain what is happening, as always in life it's usually not just one thing but a combination of things that influence an outcome. I can see bad decision making, scientific illiteracy and the arse covering of politicians have an input. But I'm looking at the outcomes and asking myself what best fits those outcomes. I find it difficult to believe that the UK government does not understand by now that the virus is not a serious virus. Why are lockdowns still being imposed? There must be another agenda driving the lockdowns and I suggest it's the Great Reset agenda, because that makes best sense of outcomes.
I would really like to have the confidence that @jmc has that Thai it total incompetence. Certainly a lot of it is, and a large proportion of that has led to where we are now.
I’m presently obsessed with VAT payments and furlough numbers. The next set of VAT stats are due for release on Wednesday. I’ve said it before, last 1/4 vat remittances turned negative and this most recent set are likely to be a bloodbath. The spin off is that with no profits (which is more or less implied by low / non existent vat receipts) then no other taxes can be levied either.
To my mind the question is not “should they be locking down” but how the hell can they actually get the thing going again. I think it’s in the mortuary and the bulk of economic activity is on borrowed time.
Now that part of it would have been predictable. Furthermore the banks know more or less how much pressure an individual business is under by looking at cash flow pressure through the account. There are probably models that can be run on this stuff.
For me the jury is out. But what he is absolutely correct about is that’s it’s no good pontificating about it because there’s nothing you can do. Focus on getting your own house in order for survival as best you can.
