Yes I consider masks farcical...but wear one on public transport out of consideration for others who feel uncomfortable travelling with those who don't wear masks.
Too many have been needlessly scared and in my small way I have managed to alleviate the fears of a couple of colleagues through reasoned debate.
So you basically doing the same thing as Boris. Out of consideration to save lives of others, you put on the safe measure to save your life and lifes of others, but in fact you damaging yours, others and you failing to see it.
Interesting approach and I even fear to think of how would you try to help people with suicide thoughts with such a logic.
No I do not think I am "saving lives" by wearing a mask on the tube. But there are many people out there who are really frightened thanks to the government propaganda - recent polling still indicates this to be the case - and it is to make them feel more comfortable that I wear a mask on the tube.
Back in March I knew of many people (myself included) who clearly had it and recovered, albeit some taking longer. IMO the "plague" has long gone from London, with only the odd few genuine cases, outnumbered by the large number of false positives.
Incidently in early March having got better after 3 - 4 days with the classic symptoms, I did phone 111 as I wanted to know whether it was okay for me to go outside. Informed as I had not come back from Wuhan or northern Italy all was okay. I had the impression from the nurse / medical advisor - why are you asking me this question - you have not been abroad recently - you cant possibly have had it.
Evidence from NY dentists that overwearing of masks leads to decaying teeth, receding gum lines, so I would agree with others that it is not a good thing to wear a mask and thus best to keep it to an absolute minimum.

But by wearing a mask you exposing yourself not just to teeth and gum problems - which I know very little about as I just recently heard it, but didn't had the time to look into it yet, bit there are far more worst problems that comes with wearing them such as breathing back in, what should be exhaled for good, the enviroment under the mask is perfect breeding ground for viruses, bacteria and fungus, which as well when you breath in, you breath them in too, you depraving yourself of oxygen and thus it will affect your brain eventually and the worst of all, it has a symbolic meaning = submission. It means that you submissing to your "mommy and daddy" or "slave masters"or "government". Government actually means mind control from latin. Why you brush your teeth ? Because mommy and daddy says so... and why you wearing a face mask ? Because mommy and daddy says so ?! Or people will start to think for themselves or this will end with annihilation of people who can actually think and what will be left will be sheeps only. People dumb enough to not question anything they been told, but smart enough to make the paperwork and operate machine so they can be enslaved for their entire lifetimes without even questioning it.
If you want to engage with someone who wears a mask and is obviously scared just ask them simple question.
Can you find a proof that masks work against viruses ?
Can you find a proof that covid exists ?
Can you find a proof that social distancing works ?
3 basic questions and even if they will turn you away, it will stay in their mind and maybe it will start bothering them enough to actually look for it and they won't like what they will find, but because at that point they doing it from their own iniciative, it will be more likely that they will accept what they will find - the truth.
If not, then they have been brainwashed too much and there is nothing to do about it.

Can more see your point about masks - having discovered this site and clicked through to links like "Masks Are Neither Effective Nor Safe: A Summary Of The Science" - particularly the section on Cloth masks.
Up to now only thought it was damaging for oral hygiene.
On engaging with people with totally opposite viewpoints, find the Socratic method is better - slowly chipping away at their postion with the hope that they come round to your point of view. Unfortunately being confrontational by and large just shores up their belief.
I know what you mean, but I didn't mean to confront anyone. Just question the reason why we have to wear them. That's all. Best position to do that is in shop, bus, train or tube. You just shout: Where is the evidence that facemasks work ? Where is the evidence that social distancing works ?
Or when you will get confronted, you shout this back loudly so everyone can hear it. Some or most of people from that place will look into it and will start discovering.
