I was just mulling the prospect of perhaps becoming an addict of some sort for a little while, or perhaps at least a problem overeater, or someone with hurt feelings owing to lots of flakey skin in need of massage advice, so I can join one of those wonderful sounding "support groups of no more than 15 people" who are still allowed to meet if the support being provided cannot be conveyed remotely. But I don't really want the trouble, and don't have flakey skin either. I just want to not go mad by losing my sense of personhood and context as a direct result of artificially-imposed deprivation of good old fashioned social contact in the flesh.

Then it dawned on me: we just need support groups for people who need them to minimise onset of depression and all that.

Don't you figure, if a support group is set up for that purpose, and follows the rules, and all the members sign sheets of paper promising to be good boys and girls and saying they are seriously depressed by the social deprivation going on, we'll be able to meet in groups of up to fifteen, to counter those very malign things called depression and loneliness?

Seems to me it would be fully legal and good even under the new rules. Anyone think otherwise? (Serious question despite the jokey intro.)

I think this might be a model for keeping sane and meeting up.

Might work. But the regulations also state that it has to be "reasonably necessary" for the group to meet in person. You might get some pedant of a copper or (if it goes to Court) judge who questions you as to why you can't do it via a Zoom call.

I’m in the early stages of trying to set a group up. My profession is ‘psychotherapist’ so going under the banner of ‘essential health’ and aim to run ‘circle time/group therapy’ should the Gestapo turn up with the TSG stormtroopers. Problem I’m up against is the town I live in are lockup zealots so encouraging those that need support could be a hurdle. Nonetheless, I plan to try and will keep the thread updated.
