How about in the name of national solidarity and equity the people who are making the decisions to lock down the country and deprive millions of people of their income and livelihood should share in that burden and sacrifice. That all those people making the lockdown decisions and who are receiving taxpayers money, directly or indirect, should have their salary sequestered until the lockdowns are ended. Say 1/4'rd per Tier. So with Tier 4 they would have all their salary under sequestration. Tier 3, would be 3/4'th. Tier 2, 1/2 etc. To be paid in full when the lockdowns are ended.

I would start with the PM and have everyone in the decision chain included. Politicians, civil servants, advisors. And especially the Neil Fergusons of the world. I think you would find that once all those making these decisions had some skin in the game so to speak that the governments enthusiasm for lockdown would wain very quickly.

Now lets see all those public spirited patriots in the governing class who say they are acting in the best interest of the nation volunteer to put their salaries into some kind of escrow until the crisis is over. As an act of national solidarity. To show we are all in this together.
