After listening to Dr Mike Yeadon and several others like him, and after being persuaded by there assertions that there’d be no second wave, I’ve become very depressed by the fact that they seem to have been proved wrong.
I was so convinced by their assertions that the increasing numbers of positive tests were largely attributable to the vagaries of PCR that I felt confident that we’d soon be out of the woods and that all would be under control again by Christmas.
But for the rising number of deaths, I could probably still cling on to that hopeful state of mind, but the evidence that a second wave is now very much upon us, has all but snatched away the last vestiges of what little hope remained.
It all looks pretty desperate now, but can anyone offer any hope that people such as Dr Yeadon might still somehow be right?

You bet! Look at the ONS weekly deaths. Here, for example:

Human corona-viruses like SARs CoV 2 have exactly the same seasonality as the common cold and influenza. The winter rate of infections is at least two to three times the summer rate. In bad flu season years the rates can be over seven or eight times higher than the summer low.
This seasonal pattern for all airborne infectious respiratory infections seems to be mainly driven by the fact that they are mostly transmitted in enclosed spaces with low rates of air circulation. Such as homes. During the summer windows and door are more likely to be open. In the winter closed. Simple factors like that have a very big impact on the airborne viral density that people are exposed to. Both at home and at work. So much much higher n the winter months.
There always was going to be a "second wave". Not on the diffusion spread infection curve in the general population. The community spread R0 of SARs CoV 2 of around 1.2 is too low for a classic very second wave. You need a R0 well into the 2's to 3's to get a classic pronounced second wave. But its now the winter flu season so the infection rate of all human corona-viruses was going to increase. By a large amount. Thats just how it works.
But as the government are not testing for 229E or OC43 its not going to be obvious that the increase in SARs CoV 2 positives is just tracking the general increases in all airborne infectious respiratory infections. As is normal at this time of year.

You think when people were banging on about how there would definitely be a second wave in the autumn, they knew that hospitals ALWAYS fill up in the autumn and people die?
Our Annual NHS Winter Crisis is as much a British tradition as Bonfire Night, Halloween and Christmas.
I’ve been greatly comforted by the replies I’ve had to my question, which is something I was hoping for last night, but something that I didn’t think would happen, partly due, I suspect, to get fact that’s I’ve suffered from health anxiety for years.
This has only just been challenged and dealt with this year, and it’s quite odd that the greatest inroads into this lifelong health anxiety problem have occurred during this year when we, as a nation, have probably faced the greatest threat to our collective national mental well-being ever,
Even if no further replies come in, I’m grateful for those received so far, and I’ll read them again at length to ensure that I’ve properly taken in what the senders have tried to say.
Thank you again, then, for your replies, and stay safe and take care.
