But covid is killing approx 50x as many people as die on the road - and that's even with the lockdowns. It's hugely more deadly!
I honestly don't care... A lot (the majority) will be in their twilight years.
Well at least you are open about it. Part of the trouble is that some people do mind about it, and that skews everything. I actually felt a bit sorry for old Lord Sumption who tried to say something similar but a young attractive woman with terminal cancer asked him 'how dare you say that my life is less valuable than yours' I had to agree with her. Point taken, Old Sumption spluttered. Good luck to them both, and you: nobody gets out of this place alive.
True there is a lot of "noise" on these forums, from both ends of the spectrum! But this is always the case. As for "dubious" arguments, those who make the statement offer no examples or evidence to support the statement and as for dubious arguments what about those that purport that these lockdown work? There are over 30 reviewed papers that cast doubt on that argument. So it appears that as in all other forums from Governments to MSM through social media, this forum is becoming a place where you can't be right because you disagree with my point of view, that is not debate just bullying. Let people have an opinion, discuss and rebut with critical thinking, this will enable others to make an informed decision on where their thinking is on all the topics, then they can be sceptical of or opposed to with good reason, although I see it as I am opposed to the lockdown policy of this government as I am sceptical about it being a proportionate response and the evidenced harm's will be greater than the cure. Alternative strategies although rare have been implemented around the world, some states in the U.S, Sweden, Belarus, and Singapore for example. The GBD has never been given a chance to be developed into an operational policy( which would rid it of the "hand waving" criticism or prove it is unworkable). Finally road deaths were accountable for just over 1K deaths in the UK in 2019, but the risk has been managed over decades with both advances in technology and restrictions that crucially do not impact on people's liberty, now in India although a greater population, less vehicles and crucially less restrictions on those driving and less technologically advanced systems, 151K road deaths! So you can manage a risk without needing to eliminate all the elements of that risk. Leave you all to ponder how this analogy works with Covid19 and lockdowns
Fon if you ask me the whole obsession with western culture and death is crazy. Don't get me wrong I've grieved before, but it's coming to us all as you say. The sooner people accept that the better
Why on earth does anyone think its sane to do something that *might* save SOME lives by absolutely ruining every single persons life in the country, quite likely permanently?
There's no common sense thinking or balancing here.
A covid death is being placed higher than the lives, death and well being of every single person in the land, the majority of which will be entirely unaffected by SARs2 if they catch it.
T in India although a greater population, less vehicles and crucially less restrictions on those driving and less technologically advanced systems, 151K road deaths!
It's because they keep crashing their cars into each other.
So you can manage a risk without needing to eliminate all the elements of that risk. Leave you all to ponder how this analogy works with Covid19 and lockdowns
Well the highway code has 140 pages of restrictions and 307 specific rules, so I hope we can manage covid19 with fewer restrictions than that!
